ME1 had more sex. There's no controversy with ME2.

Tell me how having sex before reaching Ilos is remotely relevant to the main story.

Or you can tell me how unimportant the main story was to you in the first place.

It isn't relevant to the main story, but it was relevant to my Shepard's story.  That's usually how RPG's work...you have the main story (which is very important to me believe it or not) and then you have the individual story of the protagonist that players get to customize to their desire.  That is also important to me.  A romance subplot is one piece of the protagonist's individual story, just as background and military history are, just as the decisions your Shepard makes during the mission that determine 'Renegade' and 'Paragon' leanings for your Shepard, etc.

1. EA tells BW to put more romances
2. BW puts more romances to gain more fans
3. EA wins

So, you don't really have a problem with BW doing romances (as they have always done them even prior to the EA thing), but you have a problem with them tossing in more for ME2 (ME1 had three, ME2 had six) at the expense of other areas of the game, correct?

On that tangent, I could ask this.
How is Conrad Verner remotely relevant to the main story?

He's not, but that's not the point.  He's there to add depth, to add life, just as the romances are.

EA  APOLOGIST!!!!1!!1!

They are completely optional so why is there such a fuss?

Like I said before: same fuss as if ME3 had multiplayer.

Sapient beings apparently like to have sex. Get a bunch of them together and it's going to happen.

Ok, next game, Shepard will have an orgy with the entire squaddie cast before facing the Reapers.

Controversy!!!

So as long as someone gets to deviate from the main story, it's a good RPG?

ME2 deviates non-stop, what with its six romances resulting in six good RPG elements and its utterly disconnected mission sequence.

Or not.

So then you want it completely linear, with nothing else added.

Wont that be fun. /sarcasm

I am so torn on how to reply to this I will do it in poetry... Roses are red, Violets are blue, if this is what you think, then I truely pitty you.

No.  I don't think ME2 had a good story at all.  You assume it was just because of the romances.  This makes no sense to me.  It is possible to have a masterfully written main story and then also to have romances/friendships/other types of character development going on with the PC and other characters.  These two things aren't mutually exclusive.

ME2 had a completely crap story...maybe it's b/c they added more romances, maybe not, but you cannot say that romance subplots (or even friendship ones) will always cause a deviation from the main story.

Hey, he took it :D

ShepWrex, there are other opinions out there. Just because we have them doesn't mean we are EA apologists.

And seriously, what DID Jean-Luc being a Talimancer have to do with anything? So much for you sticking to the topic :/

Yeah, this thread's definitely taken a turn. I'm kinda feeling sorry for Darth Drago -- I don't think this is quite what he intended.

I'm tempted to pour a little more gasoline on now.
