ME2 took a crap all over ME1's story... which was also a pile of crap made glittery by the romances people stuck to.jlb524 wrote...

So as long as someone gets to deviate from the main story, it's a good RPG?
ME2 deviates non-stop, what with its six romances resulting in six good RPG elements and its utterly disconnected mission sequence.
Or not.
No. I don't think ME2 had a good story at all. You assume it was just because of the romances. This makes no sense to me. It is possible to have a masterfully written main story and then also to have romances/friendships/other types of character development going on with the PC and other characters. These two things aren't mutually exclusive.
ME2 had a completely crap story...maybe it's b/c they added more romances, maybe not, but you cannot say that romance subplots (or even friendship ones) will always cause a deviation from the main story.
Fine then. Go back to arguing about which game sucks less.David Knight wrote...

ShepWrex, there are other opinions out there. Just because we have them doesn't mean we are EA apologists.
And seriously, what DID Jean-Luc being a Talimancer have to do with anything? So much for you sticking to the topic :/
Truly stunning how voicing an extremely negative opinion -- no matter how true -- rallies both fanbases to argue against one person when the thread was made for the purpose of negative opinions.

Your unrelenting lust for a character is causing you defend BW like crazy, even though they don't actually deserve that kind of defense.
Each character is a figment of a writer's imagination, and what happens to them is also a figment of that writer's imagination.
I'm very much disappointed in ME2 as well, but at least I know how much of a screwup ME1 was with its romances too.
The character emphasis is pretty much the last redeeming part of Mass Effect.

The thread was made for the purpose of discussing a general dislike of ME2. While I really enjoyed the game and don't agree with many points in the post, I understand that is what it is for and respect that.
You didn't answer my question. You also proved exactly how immature you are about this. I am sorry, ShepardWrex, if I have caused you distress. I'm not being sarcastic. I'm really sorry if this got people worked up. You can have your opinion. I respect it. Goodbye, maybe we'll debate later?

Perhaps it should be. The story and gameplay are already made of fail.SkullandBonesmember wrote...

1) That's more or less meaningless because those threads serve as an overall discussion of that character. It keeps the posts contained.
2) Again, stating your opinion as fact. Even if Mass Effect 1 & 2 had NO romance interests, I would still be completely engrossed in the exceptionally well written story and fleshed out universe. Romance interests simply add more depth to characters, they don't detract from anything.

It's not a negative opinion that gets attacked. It's the "arguments" put forth to support it.

Ask the people who feel like they need to defend their precious game - ME1 or ME2 - every time it receives criticism. ESPECIALLY if it's toward a character that they like.JeanLuc761 wrote...
