Hey guys!  I just wanted to make you all aware of the weirdest computer glitch that I have ever seen in my life...

Just recently I got my upgrade to windows 7 disc from toshiba to, well, upgrade my vista to 7.

Well, I tried installing it 3 times, and even changed the boot priority for a clean install, but it kept saying the files were corrupt.  I thought this was a little more than strange, considering how the disc had come from the company itself, so I checked the contents of the disc.

Apparantly Mass Effect 2 had taken 2 of the "boot" files that should be read when installing windows 7 and changed them so that they start the game.

What the ****?  Mass Effect 2 hindered me from upgrading my system?  Yeah, real great BioWare.

Anyways, this is the 4th time i'm trying to install windows 7 on this ****ing laptop, but I just wanted to give everyone an enormous heads up.  Uinstall ME2 before upgrading your system or things WILL **** up.

I'll keep you posted on my upgrade status...

By the way, awesome game.  Some problems here and there are nothing compared to how amazing the game itself was...but this is a little annoying. <_<

Eeewww! Was it really ME2, or the EA activation manager (it's like PC cancer)?
And please confirm: uninstalling ME2 clears the way for Win7 installation?

The files are called "BOOTMGR" and "BCD"

I don't know if it changed any others as well.

edit: These two files displayed the "2" of the mass effect 2 logo.  Otherwise I wouldn't have been able to tell if anything was wrong.  It changed the LOGO!

Well, uninstalling ME2 got rid of that weird glitch where "BOOTMGR" and "BCD" started the game, but install still crashed and burned like a mother ****. I can't find any "EA Games" anything on my computer, but I'm sure something was installed.

Doing a complete system restore to earliest possible date now...we'll just have to see what happens.

@ Inirji

Just did quick searches on google for those two files, a lot of people are unable to upgrade because of those two being displayed as corrupted.

Apparently things like adding a second harddrive after the first windows installation can cause this. Some people had to disconnect all secondary drives (external hdd, second internal hdd, ..) for the problem to dissapear.

It's a lap top with 1 drive.
