Forgive me if this has been asked before, but I was wondering how specializations will work in Awakenings, especially with the announcement of a new specialization. If we import our Warden from Origins, will we have an opportunity to gain a new specialization, or respec our current skills? Thanks, and I'm really looking forward to this and future expansions to the Dragon Age universe!

We still don't know. Either you gain a 3rd spec point when you reach a certain level. Or you have to respec by buyign a tome.

I wonder how many more spec points we will get. An article said the level could be raised to mid 30's. If that's true then perhaps 2 spec points? One for 27 and another one for 34.

A character with 4 specializations sounds a tad OP though. E.g. maybe I'll go Berserker, Champion, Spirit Warrior, Templar. Sounds pretty op to me but then again they could just make enemies super powerful to compensate.

Unless they're planning on 1-2 more specs for each class, it seems a little ridiculous to be able to get all of them. IMO, that is...

I thought that they would allow us to respec our specialization as well. Because of that fear, I haven't spent my second spec point.

There actually is not room for two more specs, graphics wise.

The layout of the character screen in consoles could not fit the icons...

However... they do have one spot that looks specifically there for a third spec. It would end the line, so, I am hoping for 3...

I believe it is two new specializations per class. So including the ones from DA:O we can now choose from 6. Wonder how many we can actually put points into.

If you search through the dev posts, I'm 99% sure that one of them said we get a third specialization point in the last week or two. They also said that we can respec to take the new specializations if we choose.

They are changing the level up gui screens to allow for more specializations to be added.

I would like to take this moment to say something about the battlemage specialization:
Why "battlemage"? I think someone can come up with a more unique specialization name than that.
As if we are not battling with our mages already....

Battlemage: would u likez to become a battlemage?

Mage: a battlemage hmm...aren't I already able to battle, while also being a mage, so shouldn't I be a battle mage already?

Battlemage: No, u have 2 b a battle mage 2 b a battle mage, u can't just b a mage n battle n call urself a battle mage.

Mage: why not?

Battlemage: Cuz you can't battle til ur are a battle mage.

Mage: what? ridiculous! I would have you know I can battle! You see that dwarf over there? *cast fire ball* *dwarf attacks mage* *mage casts prison* dwarf dies*. There I battled.

Battlemage: noz! Uh-UH! u did not battle!

Mage: wait...how old are you?

Battlemage: *counts fingers* I are 10 yearz old!

Well battlemage is a term already recognized by many RPG players. I disagree that simply being in battle and using magic will give you the title of Battlemage, too. To me, it is someone who engages enemies in close quarters while using magic and arms, not just throwing fireballs or debuffing from behind the warrior and rogues.

So, just like an Arcane Warrior then?

As I understand it the Battlemage spec without Arcane Warrior won't be able to use arms, merely his staff like other mages. The Battlemage will synergise well with Arcane Warrior but otherwise doesn't look well thought out.

From what has been released about the battlemage, most of their spells are the kind that you leave on and they do AOE. I think there was an AOE constant nuke and an aoe constant knockdown. Seems like the best place for them to be is in the thicket of the fight or atleast close enough to hit everyone with there passive spells.

So wait...A battle mage is basically an extension of the Arcane Warrior? I just saw the could be specs on some of them and I saw that mage was going to get battle mage and possibly druid. It seems that mages don't really get any new specs just an extension of it because if we do get druid wouldn't that be an extension on shapeshifter? Like is there something completely different from a battle mage and an Arcane Warrior?

Battlemages don't get weapon/armor bonuses from magic. Arcane Warriors do.

Basically, it looks like pairing up the two of them (apart from sucking the magic out of your mage so fast that he feels like a bendy straw, b/c of armor fatigue) will pwn.

Only in D&D - the D&D druid would probably be best modelled by having both specialisations, but you don't HAVE to do it that way.
