My old dog Spirit, we had to give her away when i moved to Cyprus the weather is too hot for a samoyed it would have killed her. So we gave her to a friend. I loved this dog Image IPB

Uh...A dog's fur insolates them from the heat. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but she probably would have been fine. I see tons of long haired dogs around my neighborhood, and I live in Arizona. If it IS a breed that can have problems in hot weather, you simply trim their coat for the summer. I have a friend who owns a Samoyed/Something mix, and that's what they do.

I spend a while trying to get some photos of my dogs earlier today. Naturally, they were perfectly still until it mattered, so I didn't manage to get one photo that wasn't blurred. I do have some older ones, but only of one of them.

Everyone has fuzzy animals (except The Woldan. Cool spider! Is she really a pet or does she just hang out in your house?).

This is Tiffy. She's a yellow spotted turtle, about 21 years old, and she doesn't like having her picture taken:

I think she was a gypsy in a past life because she likes to read palms. LOL

Edit: I'm sorry about your kitty, Mavi.  She (or he) was very pretty...

Hmm... I wonder if I have any pictures of my dogs around here anywhere.   They both died quite recently.   :(

I really like your rat, Inorial!  I used to have a rat, several years ago.  Rodents are one of my favorite types of pets.

I have considered getting some pet rats. But having two terriers at the same time just seems like asking for trouble. That, and I have no idea where to start with rats, and I only know dog owners. But they are adorable.

Heh, I had considered that. It's one of the things that was on my research list. I guess I'm lucky with my dogs because they smell of biscuits. I can't complain about that.

Hmm... well I haven't really found rats to smell, provided you keep them clean.  It's mice that seem to be the uniquely stinky ones!  I had a couple of pet mice when I was little and they were just horrendously stinky no matter what we did... Heh.  I was actually a bit unsure about rats initially because of that, but truthfully, I've had no issues with mine (and I have four of them at the moment, actually ^_^).

Hmm, well they're fairly straightforward pets and reasonably low maintanence, excluding of course regularly cleaning their cage.  They are quite smart though, and social, so it's a good idea for them to have another rat as a buddy, and things to keep them entertained - lots of things to chew on, play with, hide in and so on.  That said, I think that's half the fun of having them. :)

The only thing I would caution about is that you should be willing to take them to the vet.  That might sound a bit obvious but some people can be of the mindset that it's 'just a rat' and therefore not worth it - but unfortunately rats frequently can have trouble with a sort of respiratory illness (mycoplasmosis) and will sometimes need antibiotics to keep it under control.  It's just a sad fact of owning rats.  One of my girls, the one in the picture, she has needed a few courses of antibiotics in the last year or so.  It's not terribly expensive but the amount of people who've said to me 'oh it's just a pet rat, I wouldn't bother' troubles me a bit.  So I just thought I'd mention that.
