Is the Revenant worth playing through the game as a Soldier again?

He acted superior...

I really dont think I did.  I really think I made a simple common sense statement. But if I gave you some insult to your preferred piece of hardware (which I also own), I apologize.

But we are talking about some matters that really are well beyond the realm of hazy subjectivity.  Unlike Revenant vs Widow...hey remember that?  That was great.

The only people who complain about the rev's recoil are the same ones who probably play MW2; a game where recoil practically doesn't exist :P

Haven't read the thread yet, but I'm going to toss out my experience with the Revenant.

I was a happy marksman soldier playing on Insanity with my Vindicator BR and my Viper SR until the Collector ship.  Then I picked up the Revenant and just started laughing maniacally as I pumped everything in the landscape full of lead.

In the Suicide Mission, for instance, I rounded the corner after the last vent and went toe-to-toe with 3 collectors.  Revenant in hand, I mowed them all down without the benefit of cover (and minor help from a Rank 1 Pull) and then got my clock cleaned as a fourth one swept in from the side...

Are we really arguing the merits of KB/M for shooters now? Really? Lol.

The greatest thing that made me want to replay as a Soldier was having the collector's assault rifle, armor, and particle beam on all at once. Sounds stupid I know, and I could have done that with any class, but I grabbed the Widow with my infiltrator for obvious reasons, and the claymore with my vanguard. It was totally worth while hitting a third playthrough, and I'm sure it won't be my last!

Totally reminds me of my experience, lol

@Fhaol Bhig

I didn't think your post implied that, I was just preemptively nipping that line of logic in the bud. Discussion on controller/mouse/keyboard comparisons always seem to devolve into console vs pc name calling wars. So I just thought I'd go ahead and show photo evidence that considering the money I've spent on my tv and consoles, there's no damned way I'm some kind of console hating PC fanboy.

Unless, your a PC hating console fanboy in disguise...

You know, Im always amazed when people say the kickback on the Revenant was too much for them. It seems a pretty easy thing to me to compensate for...its almost like theyre playing a different game from me. I'm no master video game shootist by any measure by any stretch.

And then it occurred to me, maybe they are. I imagine the Rev is perhaps a bit more frustrating to control on the console version with an analog stick, and that kind of syrupy console shooter feel, than it is on the PC with the PC's naturally superior control scheme for shooters. Maybe its a platform difference.

Anyone have the opportunity to play both versions? Maybe the Rev really does suck on some versions of the game.

No, you just suck with the analog stick I guess. Because I use the xbox, and I don't have any problem landing headshots. (I don't mean that in an offensive way, I'm just saying that your more used to PC than Console)

naturally superior control scheme? Personal opinion, I've seen you to be a reletivly unbiased person until you posted that remark. What changed? I can do just fine on a PC and the Console, I have no difference in skill whatever one I play, and I rarely ever play PC because Mine isn't powerful enough to play most games, so its just when I'm at a friends house. I kill as many people as I do on a console version. The difference is preference, not whats better.

I'm sorry bud, I didnt mean to kick sand in the face of your console, but its widely recognized that a mouse keyboard scheme is superior and more responsive for twitch aiming in shooters by its nature, just as a traditional console controller is going to be superior for other types of button mashing or platforming games. Its not really an "opinion", so much as something thats taken for granted.

Im not putting down consoles, I own several, and there are certain types of games I wouldnt even consider playing on the PC. But just because you do *just fine*, doesnt mean certain platforms have strengths others dont. And nobody in their right mind would go to a LAN tournament and game against players using mouse and keyboard FPS controls with a gamepad.

I was just trying to figure out if maybe there was a legitimate reason for a lot of people saying the kickback on the REv was too much for them. I couldnt understand it since it seems easy to me, but I thought I may not be seeing the larger picture, because the majority of people here are probably playing the console version.

Agreed. Sorry for attacking you.

THIS is why soldiers use the Viper.  It gives HAR some exercise.  Look at the damage that thing did without even headshotting most of the time!  If one fancied oneself a marksman, one could do horrible horrible things with this gun.

And, of course, the Rev is the Rev.

Normally I don't use cryo ammo as a rule, but every shot freezes an enemy with this weapon XD

Since when did the Collector Ship platforms become the entire game? If I had to choose a mission to 'test' with I would probably grab one of the missions on Illium. The missions against Eclipse have just about every type of defense, plus Bots, rushers and Tech/Biotic power usage.

Since we all turned it into a fight.

Using the Revenant in my current playthrough. On anything lower then Insanity this weapon murders everything in sight quickly no matter what defences. It has a huge clipload, insane power behind each shot, and used with AR you're ripping through all but the toughest of enemies including defences.

Headshots are more difficult but that's where the Mantis comes in.

I'm doing so much killing that my squaddies are going "hey, what about us?"

They're mostly busy getting themselves shot anyway so good thing I'm there to murder most of the baddies.

Short answer: yes

I've played the soldier with the LMG and I've also played the soldier with the widow.  While I prefer the widow as a weapon, I discovered that I simply like the infiltrator better than the soldier as a class.  When playing as the soldier, the LMG is the most effective way to play and it offers an experience that is unique to the soldier class.  If you have never mowed down enemies with the LMG while on an adrenaline rush, you haven't experienced what it is to play as the soldier yet.  People who complain about the LMG are really just complaining about the style of play that it encourages.  The soldier with the LMG is an extremely aggressive warrior.  Perhaps even more aggressive than a vanguard because of how much ammo he has.  You use your storm speed to aggressively seek cover close to enemies and then pop out adrenaline rush and blow them away.  Keep moving, keep the adrenaline flowing and keep firing.  It's really nuts!
