When I installed the patch, when I go to launch Dragon Age Origins, it brings me the the launcher screen, but when I click play, nothing happens, the game wont launch now.  Does any1 know why this might be?

The patch was built using a different version of the MS VC++ 2005 libraries. You can find the latest version here:

/me just installed the Patch and my game won´t start as well. i tried to use the .exe in "/bin_ship":

"The Application failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail."

Same. 1.01=launcher works, clicking play doesn't start game. Tried all the solutions I could find so far, none have worked (including clearing cache, making sure everything can connect, reinstalling vcdist, etc). Only thing that works for me so far oddly enough, is *not* installing the 1.01a patch. Recommend that course of action. Hopefully the next patch will be friendlier.

Ugh, having the same problem, it's very frustrating. I didn't expect a patch intended to fix things would break my game...

What looks like is happening is that the patch was built using a different (presumably newer) version of the MS VC++ 2005 libraries.

I tried it and it worked. But be sure to download the x86 version.

Could we make a sticky out of this fix please?

I agree. We really need some volunteer moderator support here or something. There are solutions for most of the common problems but its hard to find

Any1 any idea why the VC solution seems to work for lots of people but not for me and some others? I'm on XP Pro SP3, tried the linked vcredist_x86's with no change to the 1.01 game not starting problem.

The VC solution worked for me. I have Vista 64 Bit with Service Pack 2.

doesn't the x86 version imply that you're running a 64-bit OS? I'm running 32.

x86 is 32 bit.

Regardless if you have a 32bit (x86) or a 64bit (x64) machine, you must download the 32 bit version of said file to get it working.

I have a 64 bit, and the 64bit version of the file did NOT fix it.  The 32 bit did.

Nope, x86 version is for 32-bit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X86

Think I recall seeing an x64 version on there which is presumably the one for 64-bit OS's.

That's not to say applying the vdredist_x86 solution will work tho - doesn't for me on 32-bit XP Pro SP3, and *even* if I had the patience to try it a fifth time, I've read so much about it breaking DLC that I'm inclined to bypass 1.01 altogether for the time-being.

Right, but only the 32 bit version fixes this game. It will install on a 64bit machine with no problems.

The game runs as a 32 bit application, so even if you are on a 64 bit machine you need the x86 version.

x86 is 32-bit, x64 is 64 bit. Easy to remember if you look back at all the really old 32-bit processors. 386, 486.

This is not a fix for crashing, this is a fix for the launchers play button becoming inactive post patch.:P
