I have just installed Mass Effect on my Computer and every time I try to play it, I get the message that the Mass Effect configuration utility has encountered a problem and needs to close.
Apparently because it is my first time Playing the game, it tries to discover which graphics settings I should use and while it is doing this, it crashes every single time.
If you'd like to see the error report I can give it to you, but please tell me which part you need ( I have no experience with this sort of thing) as these error reports tend to be rather lengthy.

No not yet. Is that essential? Where can I do that? The link in the start menu of Mass Effect sends me to a site that no longer exists.

I've downloaded BDtS but now it wants me to enter a CD key which I cannot get because you have to register your game and the only games I can register are Dragon Age (which I have done ages ago) and ME 2 which I don't have.
On top of that, all the buttons in the start menu of Mass Effect lead to pages that no longer exist (or maybe they do, but the links all go to the mass effect 2 website which is no help at all to me.)

Where does it say that? I can't find it in the menu that pops up just when you insert the DVD in the drive.

I apologise if I'm just being blind and obnoxious... but I cannot seem to find anything at all.

Although this is now a combined ME1 Tech discussions forum for both the PC and Xbox360 versions, please refer to the guide to how to report problems that Chris has pinned in position three at the top of the ME2 Tech Forum, and do what he says.  If it is still necessary to pursue this subject, expand your original message during an Edit, to unclude all of the data that Chris tells you to include.  Thank you.

The original ME1 game's official system requiremenmts were basically crap, and meaningless as a result.  The ME2 system requirements (for the PC) are closer to what both games' requirements should always have been.

Problem solved after a bit. Thanks a lot for the help, and sorry about not posting it properly, Gorath Alpha.

It would be nice posting the solution to help others that may encounter the same problem.

Basically all you have to do is install the Bring Down the Sky update. After that the game runs fine.

I couldn't find anywhere to register my copy of mass effect, though so I googled bring down the sky which got me to the following page:

http://masseffect.bi...nthesky_pc.html

You have to log in before you click the links, otherwise it takes you to a site that doesn't help at all, but from there on its pretty simple.

Yeah, even when logged in the BDtS key link on that page just redirects you out to www.bioware.com now. I remember registering my old copy of Mass Effect 1 back when BDtS was new--but that registration seems to have been lost in the wake of "social.bioware.com" and their EA forums changes.

Bioware/EA needs to clean this up.

O.K. I am now reading in another threaad that you CAN't register your copy of ME 1 due to the old forums being taken off line ... like WTF ? do BioWare/EA acctually want to sell games to a suipportive comunity ?

http://social.biowar...1/index/1335293

Read the last couple of pages for the BDtS dlc code or contact EA.com support for direct help.

What EXACTLY is your issue Causty, other than ranting a bit, your posts don't really say, can you run the game, or are you looking for the DLC?? The OP is about not running the game, the later posts are about DLC....so which.

Also to note, Bioware/EA are NOT on this forum, this is for USER TO USER help....just for info..
well some may breeze in, but most times they aren't here, instead EA is over at EA.com and Bioware MOSTLY hangs in DA2 or ME3 forum, since that is the game coming out soon, not the one from 4 years ago.
