Mass Effect romances are the best...really?

1) Thanks for voting:wizard:
2) the poll results so far
#1 Tali
#2 Miranda
#3 Liara/Bastila
I'm rather surprised.
I think the ME1/ME2 romances are too short (3 dialogues/love scene)...and rather shallow (compared to older Bioware games).
Thoughts?
- Mass Effect "love scenes" are superior?
- most voters didn't play other Bioware games?
I can't really explain it...

Say the wrong thing once, - DEAD
LI dead - DEAD
LI kicked out - DEAD
Jack is a little like that. At one time if u do the wrong thing she never talks to you again.

Ugly truth: BG2 was almost a decade ago. It's history.
You are right...but KOTOR, Dragon Age or Jade Empire? For example, Bastila's romance subplot is still better than any Mass Effect romance (imo).
I would prefer one well developed romance option for maleShep and one for femShep, not 3-4 "shallow" romances/gender.

Seems like the popularity basically mirrors the order in which each game was released, except for Bastilla. That's about what I would expect. It has less to do with one romance being "better" than another and more to do with how recent each game is (or isn't).
You`re 100% right. For me in BG 2 it was Aerie... and that was long time ago. Whats in fresh memory counts so right now Tali is my No. 1. Who knows what ME3 will bring... well it won`t be Miranda, becouse in my ME 2 she is dead, that`s for sure. =P
I just hope BioWare will make romances more difficult to accomplish... more hard choices.
(and btw, if I`am speaking about ME3, bring that damn MAKO back!! =P )

Not just your opinion
My thoughts remain hidden, including whatever my feelings are for you. Uh.. I mean whatever I feel "about" you. uh.. I mean I mean whatever I "think" about you.
1. You're so cute when you're embarassed.
I.. that is, you... Why must you be so impossibly infuriating? You know very well what i'm talking about. I'm refering to the bond between us, the one the Jedi Council spoke of.

Well I wasn't saying that makes BG2 bad, I just think your second guess is probably the most accurate--not as many people have played BG2 or JE. In fact I would bet that amongst the respondents to that poll, the gamers who never played BG2 & JE outnumber those of us who did by a wide margin. Especially for BG2, there's such a wide time gap between the respective release dates.
Re: Dragon Age--if you call Tali an outlier (she always has huge representation, it's a bit of an anomaly) then Dragon Age and ME2 are on even ground, which makes sense since they are only months apart instead of a decade.

What really needs to happen is for ME3 to have romances to the same extent as DA:O, complete with friendship path and dispensing with the "sex as romance cumulation" aspect.

I'd like to see that but I don't know how well it would go over with the emotionally-stunted crowd. I sometimes get the feeling that if Bioware doesn't include a money-shot, there will be rage.
also, culmination

It still has the best romances, including Anomen (very realistic portray of an angry insecure man)
Not only that, it's the LI that initiates the conversations, they are the ones that are trying to get to know you, not they other way around. And not only that I still remember Anomen romancing me AFTER I slept with him!
I only wish ME had the same depth.

I don't know...
We have 9 romancable characters in ME3 ( or 8; -Thane); I am not very optimistic.
1-2 new LIs wouldn't surprise me either (for new players)

IMO, the Dragon Age romances are better than the BG2 romances.
Its definitely better than ME, I'd have to say its the second best, that I've played, KOTOR would be third.
But that's just my opinion.

What I don't understand is why anyone would want to go back to BG2 romance. I suspect it must be nostalgia, and not so much reality, because I, for one, don't like the thought of a single poor dialogue choice messing up the whole thing, potentially breaking what is to me a very enjoyable part of the plot. It's just more user-friendly the way they've done it in Mass Effect.
As for Dragon Age, I don't know. They're lengthier, and the Leliana option is very humane, what with other characters commenting and whatnot, but the way you get the to like you is shallow as all hell. If you know what gifts they like, it's no trouble at all. Unless you're trying to romance Morrigan, in which case you have to be heartless as well, or leave her at the camp. I made that mistake on my first character, heh ...
