(Disclaimer:  This is based off MY CHARACTER.  Which uses a few mods for armor and weapons and altered creature summons.  I've taken what I've learned about DA:O about the Fade and Demons and looked between the lines a bit.  Again, this is based on my character.  I will update it as much as possible.  I hope you enjoy the story)

Outside of Denerim in a camp:

What makes an abomination? If a person retains their humanity and is
able to keep their sanity, are they truly an abomination? And do demons
specifically hunt those with power? Mages in other words. Answers the
Chantry refuses to look at. All they know is what they want to
believe. The Maker will smite those that consort with demons or are
abominations. Vorax never believed a word of it. Not since...it didn't
matter.  It had been over 12 years since it happened.  A boy with no special abilities...and he was both blessed and cursed with his current abilities.  He looked at the fire and poked it with a stick to stoke it.  His mind wandered back to the time of his what one might call accension, or fall.

Orlais: 12 years ago.

"Sleep well, Vorax. Your father would be proud to see how well you're
doing in your swordplay." His mother, who was elven, ensured her son
was safe. They were not nobles...but isn't it true that love is found
in the oddest places? She kissed her human son on the forhead and stood
to leave. "May the Maker and Andraste grant you safe harbor through
the Fade as you sleep."

"Rest well, mother." Vorax closed his eyes and drifted off to
sleep.

Hours passed as truly, Vorax's spirit was in the Fade. His father
had always told him to find a safe place to hide in the Fade until
morning broke. Though his father was no mage, he still knew a great
deal about the home of the demons and spirits. But tonight would be a
night that changed his life. Vorax turned to hide in his safe "cave"
after hearing the laughter of a Greater Rage Demon.

But after he hid, a voice boomed behind him. It echoed darkly, as
if it was nearly two voices speaking. One three words behind the other.
"And here I thought you were braver than that, mortal. Your father
would be disappointed to see that you hide from us. Perhaps our
mealtime is now. Though we could not devour your father, I suppose you
will have to suffice."

Vorax spun around, looking up seeing the massive pride demon.
"Stay away from me! I swear to the Maker I'll kill you!" A longsword
forming in his hand in an act of sheer will.

The demon snarled. "YOU WILL LEARN TO BOW TO YOUR BETTERS,
MORTAL!"

A fight ensued between the two. Even in the Fade, Vorax could
still hold his own in a fight. Thanks to his father's teachings in
swordplay. The fight lasted the entire night. And the boy was tiring
with each swing of his blade. But even fatigued, it found its mark.
Vorax's blade tore into the heart of the demon.

"NO! IM....POSSIBLE....!" The Pride Demon collapsed.
And...something happened. The spirit of Valor came to see the boy home
and noticed the essense of the dead demon shimmering. It engulfed
Vorax, "absorbing" into him, as it were. The demon would win one way or
the other. He would kill the boy or corrupt him.

Vorax screamed in pain, which translated to the living, waking
world outside of the Fade. Valor knelt before the boy, his eyes
changed. "Leave....me....ALONE!" Vorax's voice began to sound like the
demon's voice. His iris' shimmering yellow.

Valor spoke softly. "Listen to me, boy. Do not let pride consume
you. You cannot let him win. Your father wanted nothing more for you
except to always be valorous. To do what is right. If you let the
essense of the fallen demon win over your own will, he wins even in
death. I am not one to ask a person to learn from a demon. But if it
saves you...do it. Learn from the demon and do the opposite of what he
would do."

Vorax struggled. After a few minutes...his body stopped
convulsing. Vorax opened his eyes after having them closed in pain.
His eyes now had the look of understanding. He looked at Valor and
smiled. "Thank you, ser. Thank you for your words."

Valor closed his eyes and sighed. "Maker protect you, boy. I pray
that many of the mortals will hear past your voice and see past your
eyes. You and the fallen essense of the demon are now one."

Vorax placed his hand on Valor's shoulder. His voice echoing like
the demon's did. Two voices. One speaking three words behind the
other. "Then I will do what I must to never fall to the demon's level.
I will do what is right. As my father did."

Vorax woke up startled. His mother's hands shaking as she looked
at her son's eyes. He looked up at her, his voice sounding like it did
in the Fade. "Mother? What....." He noticed the change and ran to the
mirror and saw his eyes. "So then it really did happen. It wasn't a
nightmare. Then I will do as I promised Valor. As I promised father. I
will do what is right."

His mother ran over to him and embraced her son. Crying that the
demon had changed him. But she would still love him.

Time passed. Vorax learned the ability of the Templars. Never
speaking unless in private. But he also learned about certain summoning
abilities that were NOT part of the Templar training. He learned to
summon Revenant. A demon possessed corpse. One that used their martial
abilities to serve Vorax. Having the ability to psychically pull many
enemies toward him and attacking twice to bring enemies down. Only one
Templar knew about this. Ser Bryant. He was killed in Lothering during
the Blight but was Vorax's mentor and trainer. Vorax was still human.
But at the same time, was something more. He was no god. But he was
not just as mortal.  He would still bleed were a blade to pierce his heart, were it lucky enough to find it.  Ser Bryant had the Chantry make Vorax special
Templar armor. When the Revered Mother in Denerim stumbled upon a
lesson that Vorax was training in, she saw him summon the Revenant and
ordered the demon child gone. Ser Bryant tried to explain the
situation. But she would not hear of it. The Revered Mother called
Vorax a Dark Templar. And the name just stuck. But he was reviled by
the Chantry. Not hunted...but reviled.

Vorax was eventually recruited by Duncan before Lothering was hit and the fall of Ostagar.  Even already demon-touched by the essense inside of him, Vorax still went through the Joining to become a Grey Warden.  The only slight difference was that his ability to sense the Darkspawn was hightened.  They told him of mastering the taint, but even Duncan wasn't sure what would happen or how the Joining would alter Vorax.  But he said nothing to anyone.  Allistair was leery of the Dark Templar.  Even he heard of how the Chantry reviled him.  But if Duncan  recruited him, was he really all that bad?

Vorax never spoke to anyone unless they asked him a question.  Supposedly the less people knew about him, the less they would find a reason to make poor judgements about him.  He would let his actions speak for him.  And no louder did his actions speak than during the battle at Ostagar.  As they made their way up the tower, the Darkspawn poured out of side rooms.  Vorax had finished off the Hurloc he was fighting and turned to see a Grenloc Alpha charging at Allistair who's back was turned.  Vorax charged at Allistair and shouted: "ALLISTAIR!  WATCH OUT!"

As the young templar turned, he saw the grenloc nearly on top of him.  Vorax shoved Allistair out of the way and took the blade hit from the darkspawn.  He roared in pain and it echoed in his dark voice.  That was enough to push him over the edge.  He picked up his greatsword that he dropped and readied his shield.  The sword glowed blue and both Vorax and the Grenloc Alpha fought.  The fight lasted only a few minutes and the Grenloc made one error in leaving himself open.  The Dark Templar stunned the fiend with his shield and brought his greatsword to bear.  Slicing in one direction, then in the other, cutting the beast open.

Vorax fell to one knee.  Even strong enough to wield a greatsword with one hand and use a shield, his injury from the darkspawn drained him.  Allistair helped him up.  "Are you alright, Vorax?"

Either Allistair became accustomed to Vorax's voice, or he made the decision the Chantry was wrong, he didn't shudder at words that came out in echoed succession.  "I will be fine, just...drained.  We must move on.  The beacon will not light itself."  Unsteadily Vorax stood.  Could Allistair see his yellow eyes, he would see the pain he was in from the bladestrike.  But Vorax hardly ever removed his helmet unless he was in camp.  But his left arm that held his shield sunk a little.  Allistair noticed this but thought better about saying anything.  Determination and will drove this Dark Templar.

When they finally made it to the top of the Tower of Ishal, they stopped dead in their tracks to see an Ogre standing there.  Vorax glanced at the people behind him, he saw the fear in their eyes.  He would NOT let these people, his people, be hurt.  But this was a fight that would not be won easily.  He was about to forgo everything he said he wouldn't do about summoning his Revenant, but this fight did not warrant the same caution.  This was a fight for survival.  He drove his sword into the ground and raised his hand.  Dark energy surged from his raised hand as a Revenant rose from the floor.

"MAKER'S BREATH!  WHAT?!?!" The mage with them screamed seeing the Revanant rise.  But there was no time to hold back.

Ignoring the mage, Vorax charged at Ogre, and the Ogre charged at him.  The Ogre suddenly snap froze which gave him the change to get in the first strike.  Vorax overpowered the Ogre, sending the beast staggering back.  The Revanant attacked twice seeing the opening its master gave it.  Vorax was tiring quickly.  The injury slowing him down from earlier.  And overpowering the Ogre only made it worse.  But he would not faulter.  He would not let his group fall to this abomination of a Darkspawn.  The Ogre though was able to grab Vorax and literally pound him.  Each hit from the beast blurring his vision more.  But Allistair, Maker bless him, slashed at the Ogre's shin, causing it to drop their leader.  Still dazed and vision blurred, Vorax saw his oppertunity to finish off the Ogre.  He lept onto the monster's chest and drove his blade into the beast's neck.  The Ogre fell to the ground backwards and at that point, Vorax drove his blade into the head of the monster and twisted the blade.  He staggered off.  Allistair trying to coax him over to light the beacon.  He did but nearly collapsed.

Out of the flashback:

Vorax looked up from the fire and saw Morrigan at one end of the camp, Allistair sitting on the other log and the Mabari that "imprinted" itself on him.  Vorax finally removed his helmet.  Allistair for the first time looked at his friend's real face.  Rugged looking.  Beard and stubble.  The iris' of his eyes shimmering yellow and a tattoo over his one eye.  Probably from the essense inside of Vorax that gave him the mark.  It didn't matter.  Vorax proved himself to Allistair.  Why should he see this man as anything other than a friend and comrade?  Dark Templar, demon-touched or no.  Morrigan helped these two and Flemeth sending her possibly only daughter with them to help them.  Morrigan made advances on him but Vorax declined.  It annoyed her but...there was no changing his mind.

If Vorax had his heart set on a special woman, Morrigan told him because of what he was, he would be greatly disappointed.  He just seemed to shrug it off.  "Be that as it may, Morrigan.  The Maker will grant me what he will if not end my life sooner rather than later.  But I will do what I must and do what is right.  A promise I made to someone very long ago.  Like it or not you may return to the Wilds at any point."  If there was one thing to Vorax, he would not back down from anyone that questioned him or pushed him into a corner.

The three of them rested for the night, preparing to move onto Lothering in the morning.

Lothering:

Vorax, Maskron (his mabari), Allistair and Morrigan made their way to Lothering.  As they neared the bridge steps down, highwaymen stopped them.

"Good day, travelers!  Before you proceed I ask that you pay the toll to enter Lothering."  The leader seemed to just smile.

"They are fools to get in our way.  I say, teach them a lesson." Morrigan had little patience for people like this.  But so did Vorax.  Thankfully these highwaymen couldn't see the look of anger Vorax's face was contorted in.

These...thieves were preying on the helpless.  Vorax said nothing.  The bandit leader tilting his head.  "Well, come on now, pay up or we'll take the toll from your corpses."  That was all that he needed.  Vorax's hand went to his shield and caught the leader off guard, sending him to the ground.

"We will pay you nothing."  Seeing the other bandits grabbing their weapons, he bashed a second with his shield.  The fight lasted only a few seconds before the bandit leader begged for them to stop.

"Alright!  Alright!  We surrender!  Just let us go!"  The highwaymen told the group of what was happening.  The refugee's fleeing from the farmlands and a couple of Ash Warriors.  After, Vorax got very very close to the bandit leader.  His voice low, but threatening.

"Leave this place.  Run and never return or your life will be forfeit."  Hearing his voice the bandits gladly ran like the dickens to just get away from the odd knight.  After a few minutes, the three stopped at the steps to Lothering and talked about the treaties.  A decision was made to try and gather whatever news they could and then proceed with finding the different groups.  Morrigan made a few quips to Allistair which, oddly enough, when Allistair replied caused Vorax to chuckle a bit.  If anything listening to these two helped lighten the mood a little.  Speaking to a few of the townsfolk, Vorax learned that Ser Bryant was here and in the Chantry.  Which was the first place Vorax went to.

Bryant was talking to a few of his Templars.  After, Vorax stepped up. "Ser Bryant.  I'm glad to see you well, my old mentor."

Bryant's eyes fixed on the Dark Templar.  He smiled.  "Andraste's Blood it's good to see you doing well, Vorax.  When the Chantry banned you I grew concerned.  What they did to you was wrong.  I tried to make the Revered Mother see that you were no threat to anyone but those who followed through with injustice."

Vorax held up his hand.  "Worry not, my friend.  I did not go without.  In fact only a month after I was recruited by the Grey Wardens." He noticed the frown curling on Bryant's lips.

"You did not hear about what Logaine said, did you?"

"I heard enough to know the Tyern is a liar.  The Grey Wardens did not murder the King.  Loghaine pulled out when the torch was lit at Ostagar.  But it matters not right now.  Can the Chantry help the Grey Wardens?"

Bryant rubbed his forhead.  "The best I can do is not reveal that you are Grey Wardens.  It is enough that the Chantry knows you as the Dark Templar.  Being a Grey Warden will only complicate things."

"That will be enough, old friend.  We will find a way.  We always do.  I will speak to the Revered Mother here."

Bryant snapped his focus on Vorax.  "You do that and you might condemn...."

"For once the Chantry needs to stop seeing black and white on issues like this when the Blight is upon all of us.  If she cannot see this then all of us are doomed to perish.  But I thank you for your concern for the others, Ser Bryant."  Vorax turned to walk towards the Revered Mother's chambers but stopped and extended his hand.  "Bryant, if something happens to us all, I want you to know....thank you....for everything you have done."

Bryant looked at the extended hand and embraced Vorax.  "You be careful out there, my boy.  You live to defeat these Darkspawn.  Make me proud to have trained you.  And never forget everything I've have taught you."

Vorax hugged Bryant back.  Bryant was the closest thing he had to a father since his time in the Chantry.  "I will not forget, ser.  I promise.  I will never forget."

Before deciding to meet with the Revered Mother, Vorax headed out of the Chantry and towards the tavern.  The refugee's watched the dark armored knight move silently through Lothering.  His companions talking far more than him.  As they entered the tavern, a group of soldiers stepped forward.  And a ley sister standing off to the side.

"Well look at this, men.  It seems we have a Grey Warden here.  And on top of that, the Dark Templar.  It seems we were lied to."  The soldier glared at Vorax.

Lelianna stepped forward.  "Come now, these are probably just poor souls weary from their travels and seeking a safe place to stay."

Vorax looked slightly at Lelianna.  For a moment, he...seemed to look at her differently under his helmet.  "Thank you for your concern, Sister.  But I do not wish for you to be harmed.  Please stand back."

Lelianna blinked for a moment hearing Vorax's voice, then composed herself.  "You may not need to be protected, but these men will follow their master blindly.

"I am not the blind one!  Arrest the Dark Templar.  Kill the Sister and any others who get in our way."  The soldiers drew their swords.  People scattered in the tavern to get away from the fighting.

Vorax equipped his shield but not his greatsword.  He caught the leader in the jaw and punched another soldier.  Allistair and Morrigan took down two others.  The Mabari bit the leg of another.  Lelianna fought side by side with Vorax.  Vorax caught sight of a soldier trying to attack Lelianna from behind.  He grabbed the soldier and with all his strength threw the soldier through a table.  "ENOUGH!"  Vorax roared.  And enough was all the soldiers could take.  The Captain put up his hands defeated.

"Good.  Now we can all stop fighting."  Lelianna said matter of factly.  But Vorax was prepared to tear these guards apart.  He was again fighting the essense of the demon in him.  He told Lelianna that he didn't want the soldiers reporting back to Loghaine.  "No!  They are no match for you!  There is no need to kill them!"

Allistair put his hand on his friend's shoulder.  Vorax growled, but lowering his hands, fought back the desire to strike them down.  "Give Loghaine a message.  Tell him that the Grey Wardens know what he did.  That we know the truth and that we will find him."  The soldier nodded emphatically and left as quickly.  Vorax looked at Lelianna. His demeanor now calming quickly.  Morrigan noticed this and groaned a bit.

"Those soldiers said you were a Grey Warden.  And the Dark Templar.  You are battling the Blight and the Darkspawn, no?"  Lelianna's forwardness caught him off guard.  But he nodded and stated: "Yes, but that usually depends on who you ask.  Of course I have never known a Ley Sister of the Chantry to fight as you do, madame."  It took a few minutes for Lelianna to catch the words as at times they overlapped in Vorax's voice.  But she nodded.  "Oui, but I wasn't always a Ley Sister.  That is why I'm coming with you."

Vorax blinked.  "I am sorry?  Why would you..."

"Because the Maker told me to."  Her words were so innocent sounding.  And she looked honest and innocent as she said it.

"The Maker....could you...elaborate?"  This was the FIRST time he ever even heard this kind of thing.  The Chantry would not even say the word Maker in the same paragraph as Dark Templar.  To the Chantry, he was nearly the same evil as the Darkspawn.

"I know it sounds completely insane.  But the Maker gave me a vision, a dream.  And I knew that this was the right thing to do.  To help you against the Blight."  She looked at Vorax.  For some reason he couldn't deny her to come along.

"You do know that the Chantry reviles him, don't you?  They would consider what you're saying as blasphemy."  Allistair quipped to Lelianna.

"Who am I to question the Maker's vision?"

"Very well, sister...."

"Lelianna."

"Very well, Lelianna.  We will not turn away help when it is offered.  But I am afraid we will need more than prayers."  Vorax studied her a moment.  Oddly enough, he found her, fascinating.

"Perhaps mother was right and your head was cracked worse than we thought." Morrigan piped in.

Vorax said nothing.  But he motioned that they would go back to the Chantry.  As they headed out, Vorax caught sight of a Qunari male in a cage.  He walked over and looked at him.

"I have nothing more to say to you, human.  And I will not entertain your notions further."  Sten said flatly.

"Why are you in there, Qunari?"  His voice catching Sten off guard.  "And what is your name?"

"I am Sten of the Barrisad.  And by the sounds of it, you are the one called the Dark Templar.  I am in this cage awaiting my fate."

"The Revered Mother says he was found among a family he murdered."  Lelianna replied.

"What she says is true."  Sten looked very indifferent.

"If nothing else, you should release him out of mercy alone." Morrigan said.

"Now there's something I never thought I'd hear you say." Allistair replied.

"And I suggest you put Allistair in his place."

"Yes, THAT is what I expected."

Vorax looked at Sten.  His gaze piercing Sten's eyes.  "Remain here while I speak to the Revered Mother.  Perhaps there is a way to atone for what you have done."

The other three just looked at Vorax.  They blinked and followed him.  He moved steadily.  Maybe purposefully...but then again one could never tell with Vorax.

In the Chantry, the Sisters and priests all stopped and watched at Vorax walked into the chambers of the Revered Mother.  She turned and saw Vorax.  Her expression going almost cold.  "Why have you come here, Dark Templar?  You know you are not welcome here."

"Yes, I am very aware of this being you and the others constantly remind me.  But I am not here to cause you the supposed trouble you tell the others I bring with me.  I am here as a Grey Warden.  And I wish to speak about the Qunari you have locked up."

The Revered Mother paced a bit.  "It may have been more merciful to just execute him.  But I leave his fate in the hands of the Maker."

Vorax's eyes flashed a bit under his helmet.  "I wish him released.  He can aid us against the Blight."

The Revered Mother narrowed her eyes.  This...reviled knight...asking for assistance.  It was unheard of.  It was said he could destroy an army of men with just him and his Revanent alone.  Fabrications of course, but could the Revered Mother from Denerim have been wrong?  She looked at Lelianna.  "Sister Lelianna, you know your friends more than I.  Can his words be trusted?"

"The Qunari could atone for much fighting the Blight.  The Maker forgives all his children." Lelianna's words  were earnest.

"They take the key and go with the Maker's Blessings, all of you." She even looked at Vorax.  As they turned to leave, Vorax stopped.  He turned and pulled out a pouch full of coins.  He looked at it then at the Revered Mother.  He tossed it to her.  "Fifteen soveriegn, Revered Mother.  Were there more I could do, I would."  He looked down a moment.  "For once in my life....I feel helpless to do anything to help these poor souls."

She walked over to him, removing his helmet and touching his cheek.  "Bryant was right about you, child.  But the Maker will see us to safety.  You must go and carry on his will as you know how.  We will not forget all that you have done here.  Even if it was too late for some of us to see.  Maker bless you on your path, Vorax."

Vorax smiled and bowed slightly.  But his smile was a sad smile.  And his eyes showed what he felt.  He took his helmet and turned.  For one split second, Lelianna caught the sadness in his eyes.  He put on his helmet and headed towards the door.    They moved to where Stenn was and released him.  Stenn agreed to help and they all moved towards the outskirts of Lothering.  As they did, a Darkspawn patrol ambushed a merchant and his son.  But before they could hurt the Dwarves, Vorax moved into action, cutting down on Hurloc while trying to draw the attention of the others away from them. Lelianna, Allistair, Morrigan and Stenn attacked.  The fight didn't last long and after, Bodan thanked their timely rescuers.

Later that day, Vorax looked up and decided it was time to make camp.  After dinner...and not a good one at that....Vorax walked off to the side of camp where a tree was.  He looked back at the group and moved further out to get a little privacy.  His Mabari saw him walking off and followed him.  Vorax removed his helmet and lowered his head.  Seeing the Darkspawn outside of Lothering only meant one thing.  They were advancing and would overtake Lothering very very soon.  The thought itself haunted his mind and closed his eyes, trying so hard to fight back tears.  Maskron looked up at his master and whined.  Seeing his master so sad tore him apart as well.  He lay down and whimpered.  Unbeknownst to either, Lelianna had followed them.  She stayed hidden as she watched Vorax.  He dropped his helmet and finally broke down.  "Maker forgive me.  Please forgive me....I want to save them....Why did you curse me?  Why?"  His dark voice faultered a bit.  At times the second dark voice would fade.  Lelianna covered her mouth as she watched him.  Whoever the Chantry made him out to be, the Dark Templar was far from evil.  He was compassionate.  And right now, he was a broken man.  Being strong for his group and the refugees had taken its toll on him.  And seeing the Darkspawn only made it worse.  He wiped his eyes and looked up towards the heavens.  "Father....I am trying....Andraste save me I am trying...."  Lelianna lowered her head and walked back to the camp quietly.  As she got back to the camp.  She looked back towards where he was.  She looked back and closed her eyes, returning to her tent.

Late Springtime:

Vorax made it a point to talk to the group.  One person at a time to get to know them.  Morrigan and him were on friendly terms.  Allistair confided alot in Vorax.  Stenn was...well....Stenn.  Lelianna though.  He felt himself spending a bit more time learning about her.  She would tell him about Orlais.  And about her time as a travelling minstrel.  Though, Vorax picked up on certain inconsistancies, he never brought them up.  Keeping them in the back of his mind.  Just listening to her.  Vorax had no right to judge anyone.  He was judged wrongly everytime.  At times, Lelianna would ask certain questions about where he was from and if his helmet allowed the change in his voice to come through.  Or the armor itself.  He couldn't tell her....it was hard for him to bring up what he was.  Or what he wasn't.  All he would say to her was: "It happens."  The look in his eyes though, it hurt him to lie to her.  He didn't know...the time they travelled together, he found himself either keeping up with her or her catching up to him.  They would joke, or she would talk about fashions and he would just listen.  Of course he couldn't remember the fashion trends in Orlais.  What he kept in the back of his mind was things Lelianna liked.  Shoes.  Shoes were a big thing. But also...about a flower.  Andraste's Grace.  Damned if he knew where to find them, though.

The next morning the group packed up camp and made their way towards the Frostback Mountains.  On their way, they came across a dwarf travelling merchant.  The merchant had...suprisingly, shoes.  Blue satin shoes with embelleshments.  Vorax glanced over his shoulder at Lelianna who was talking to Allistair.  He bought the shoes.  But not knowing what her reaction would be at this point, or how she would take his intentions, he carefully wrapped them and put them in his pack.  Maybe someday...if he was able to build the courage to really express his feelings towards the young and beautiful bard, he would give them to her.  He thought back to a conversation about shoes that Lelianna brought up.

"Did you ever see the shoes you wear here in Fereldan?  Eww.." Lelianna made a silly face of disgust.

"Denerim has some pleasant looking shoes." Vorax didn't seem to mind the way the shoes here looked, but again, he wasn't a fashion expert.

"Oh I am sure, but sometimes a girl likes to have pretty feet."

"You do not require shoes to make you look beautiful, Lelianna."  Vorax snapped to a realization after saying that.  Maker's Blood! What did he just say?!?!  His face flushed three shades of red.

Lelianna giggled.  "That is kind of you to say, thank you." Either she was giggling because she was flattered, or giggling at him for going flush.

Vorax was reserved.  Very reserved around women.  Looking at a pendant his mother gave him, he clenched it in his hand.  The pendant was a Sword of Mercy.  He wanted to give this to Lelianna.  But he wasn't ready.  Sometimes when he complimented her, he sounded like an addled schoolboy.  Stumbling over his words.  He didn't know if Lelianna felt the same way about him as he was starting to feel about her.  But again, he was inexperienced in matters of love.  Of companionship.  Maybe it wasn't mutual.  He would try to indiscreetly see if she felt the same way as he.  But she was a person who could hide her feelings just as easily.  She admitted that bards were manipulators, assassins.  He closed his eyes.  Time would tell.  He shook off his thoughts and told the group they were moving out.    On the way, they came across yet another merchant.  This one though gave them an offer about a golem.  Vorax asked about it.  The merchant put off a bit by his voice, but...told him that the golem was in Honaleath and that Darkspawn were assaulting the town.  The merchant gave Vorax the control rod for the golem.  The group set up camp just outside of Honaleath and Vorax took with him Lelianna, Stenn and Maskron, his Mabari.

It was true, the Darkspawn had overtaken Honaleath.  The group refused to let the Darkspawn take over this small town.  They found about five groups of Darkspawn and found the disabled golem.  They walked up to the golem.

"It's....a real golem.  But how did it get here?" Lelianna asked.

Vorax's eyes shimmerd under his helmet as he spoke the words the merchant told him.  "Dulaf garn."  The group watched as nothing happened.

Something was wrong with the rod or the words.  Vorax looked towards a door that was cracked open off in the distance.  The door led to a cellar.  Along the way to the end of the hallways, the group fought off more darkspawn.  Stopping just short of the final room, Vorax raised his arm to stop the group.  The all-too-familiar feel of dark magic.  Plus...something else.  The magic was closer though.  Drawing his blade and shield, Vorax moved ahead slowly.  A Grenloc Emissary.  One of the more powerful Darkspawn.  Its magic crackled as they tried to bring down a magical barrier to get to the remaining townsfolk of Honnaleath.  Lelianna prepared her bow as Stenn waited with Maskron for a signal to attack.

Sneaking quietly to catch the emissary off guard, Vorax took one step forward and immediately brought an assaulting attack upon the darkspawn mage.  And he didn't stop until the mage was brought down.  His training as a templar only helping against the Darkspawn emissary.  Stenn and Maskron charged after a couple of Hurlocks.  But one of the Genloc archers aimed right for Lelianna.  Vorax turned to see him release an arrow aimed right at her heart.  Vorax had no time to think.  He threw his shield at the doorway as hard as he could.  A second before the arrow could pierce her chest, the shield deflected the arrow and then got wedged right in the wood of the doorframe.  Lelianna was startled.  Vorax took his sword and threw it at the Genloc archer, cutting its throat as the sword went through its neck.  Stenn having finished with his darkspawn foe turned to see a Hurloc jump down to go after Lelianna's savior.

"Human, catch!" Stenn threw his greatsword to Vorax.  Catching it, Vorax spun around and severed the darkspawn's head from his shoulders.

The fight ended and the townsfolk thankful, the son of Wilhielm spoke to Vorax about Shale.  But before willing to help him, his daughter was trapped further in the basement.  He pleaded with Vorax to save his daughter.  It wasn't even a second before he agreed.  The feeling that Vorax had before became stronger.  The only time he ever felt it this strong was in the Fade.  What the hell was going on?  Stenn said nothing, Maskron growled slightly.  But Lelianna saw the cautious steps her friend was taking.  Why was he acting like this.  He was always sure of himself.  Something had him either spooked, which was unlikely given how he carried himself, or he did not tell Lelianna everything when she asked him about his training and childhood.  Who was this man?  Why was he holding back now?  On the way down they fought a few dust wraiths.  Defenses?  These weren't just defenses.  He didn't feel a tear in the Fade.  They saw Amelia with a cat as they got to the end of the stairway.  She was talking to the cat as if having a normal conversation.

"Amelia?  Your father is looking for you."  Vorax said.  Fixing his gaze on the feline a moment and narrowing his eyes.  Lelianna watch him.  Her lips curling into a frown.

"Oh!  You sound just like kitty!  We're playing guessing games.  But it's more fun with more people." The little girl clapped her hands excitedly.  Maskron growled angrily.

"Amelia, I suggest you slowly step away from the cat."  Caution became panic towards the girl.  Vorax knew what this cat was.

"Oh pish posh.  Kitty says you're starting to annoy her."  Amelia pet the cat as Maskron hunkered down and growled again.

"I would not suggest going with these strangers, dear Amelia.  Especially that one."  The cat's eyes glowed lavender.

Vorax removed his helmet.  His shimmering yellow eyes glowing a bit more.  "Why are you here, Desire?  You have no claim here."

"I would ask you the same thing, Vorax.  But I doubt you would be so willing to tell me.  I knew it was too much to hope Pride would have killed you by now.  Or corrupted you.  Either way.  You're an annoyance nonetheless.  But since you care so much, I have been trapped here.  This girl's grandfather bound me here so I could not escape.  And her company is welcome after a decade or more of being locked away here.  But seeing as how we are at an impasse, free me so we can leave here."  The cat stretched.

Lelianna 's face contorted in fear maybe.  What did this possessed cat mean?  Thoughts were racing through her mind.  She looked at Vorax who's face betrayed no emotion.  He was angry, concerned, scared.  This demon knew him.  And he knew her.  She walked over and grabbed his arm.  "What is going on?  How do you know this cat?  And what are you?!  I thought....you didn't...."

"This is not the time to ask questions of this nature, Leli.  If we survive, then I will tell you.  But not before."  He was focused on this cat.  She blinked as he called her Leli.  No one called her that unless she was very close to them.  Did he even realize he called her that?  She was going to demand answers from him.  But she bit her lip.  She hadn't been honest with him either.  Her expression changed from anger to one of...well...almost shame.  "You do not need this child, Desire.  I will grant you passage out but you must leave the girl."

The cat looked at Amelia.  "Mmm...but I so do enjoy her.  But very well.  We have an accord.  Perhaps you will succeed where she has failed."

It took a while for him to figure out the way the wards worked.  But when he did figure it out....

"Oh!  Freedom!" The cat cackled gleefully.

"Kitty, what's happening?!" Amelia started backing away.

"Something wonderful, my dear."

"We had a deal, Desire!" Vorax roared.  His voice echoing angrily.

"I've changed my mind.  I like this girl and I will take her!"

"Kitty!  You're scaring me!  I won't let you in I wont!!!!"

Vorax drew his sword.  "I will not allow you to have her!"

"Uurrghh!  I'm taking her anyways!" Desire hissed.

"Amelia! Run!" Vorax pushed the girl to the door.  "RUN!"

The desire demon transformed.  "YOU HAVE INTERFERED FOR THE LAST TIME, VORAX!  YOUR LIFE ENDS HERE!"  Four Greater Rage Demons appeared, Lelianna squeeked in suprise.  Stenn didn't seem suprised.  And Vorax wasted no time attacking the Desire Demon.  But during the fight, the rage demons turned to face Lelianna.

Desire was trying to keep Vorax busy.  But he turned at the right time to see them heading to her, she was backing away quickly.  "GET AWAY FROM HER!"  Vorax threw his one hand up and magic erupted from it.  Before Lelianna, a Revenant erupted from the ground and driving its sword into the ground, used magic to pull the demons towards it and away from Lelianna.  Lelianna fell backwards seeing the Revanent.  She looked towards Vorax and watched him as he drove his blade into the desire demons stomach.  The demon lurched forward.  "You will not win this time, Desire.  And you shall never return to the Fade to harm another again.  I swear to Andraste I will send you all to the Maker should you ever come after my friends again." He pushed the demon away from his sword as she slumped to the floor.  The Revanent finished with the Rage demons as did Stenn and Maskron.  Vorax went over to Lelianna and helped her up.  "Are you hurt, Lelianna?   Do you require a priest?"

Lelianna looked away and quietly said 'No'.

"I'm sorry, Lelianna.  I did not....it does not matter now.  Let us return to the mage."  The group left the cellar.  Lelianna walking behind Stenn.  Maskron following her.

Later that night:

Vorax didn't know what to say.  He and Lelianna didn't really speak to each other.  Usually Allistair would try to pipe in with some witty banter.  But it was apparent that wouldn't be appropriate.  After dinner, Vorax decided it was time to lay the truth bare.  He walked over to Lelianna as she was working on her lute.  He sat down and lowered his head.  "I am sorry I did not tell you the entire truth, Lelianna.  As foolish as the decision was, I did not speak of it because of your ties to the Chantry.  Many believe what the Revered Mother tells them. And over the past months, I should have learned better.  Forgive me."

Lelianna sighed as she put her lute down.  "You are not the only one guilty of not telling the truth.  I lied to you as well."  She proceed to tell Vorax about her life as a bard, her life with Marjoline.  How she was trained, betrayed, and put through a traitor's torture.  And her truth behind her being at the Chantry in Lothering.  For hours they spoke.  He asked her questions.  As he finally understood her life as a bard, he heard her ask. "What about you?"

He looked up.  "I was a child of Orlais once.  My father passed away when I was five or six.  My mother is an elf.  He knew everything there was to know about the Fade even though he was no mage.  That knowlege cost him his life.  I don't know how.  Mother would never speak of it."  He proceeded to tell her what happened to him when he was a boy.  How the essence of a Pride demon was within him.  That it changed him and that there was no returning to a normal human life.  That Ser Bryant was his mentor and trainer and why the Chantry reviled him.  And that he never summoned his Revanent unless the situation was so dire.  He looked down.

Lelianna watched him.  Vorax was compassionate.   He was reserved, especially around her.  At times he was also a bit goofy.  He had more than his fair share of branches hitting him in the face and knocking him back.  His sense of humor was there, but only when Allistair started with him.  One could almost say he was chilverous.  Lelianna liked this about him.  She remembered when he wept for the people of Lothering.  He hid his sensitivity.  He didn't try to be something he wasn't.  She placed her hand on his and smiled slightly at him.  "Thank you.  Thank you for listening, and being honest with me."

He smiled back.  "No, thank you, Lelianna."  Instinctively he placed his hand on hers.  She seemed to blush and pull her hand away. He caught it and chuckled slightly.  He looked up again.  Focused on one star.  Lelianna moved closer to him and asked him about a certain constellation.  He told her he'd never heard the story and she told him.

"I have always wondered if that kind of love is possible." She asked thoughtfully.

"If we give up on love, then we are all truly lost."   He didn't feel embarrassed to say that.  It was true.  Even to him.

"It is a pleasant suprise to hear you say that.  There is a certain severity to you.  You should let your sensitivity out more."  She smiled at him.

Vorax laughed.  "I will certainly try."  He stood and bowed to Lelianna.  "The night calls and we must take our watch for the night. "

Early summer:

The group was making their way to Redcliffe.  They were halfway there.  The trip was long and ardous.  Along the way, they encountered a group of Darkspawn.  An ambush, but the group was working well together.  Vorax looked up at the sun and decided to let everyone take a break.  Collectively they sighed in relief.  Vorax sat on a fallen tree and opened up his map.  There was a slight breeze and it caught the map.  Nearly losing it he chuckled and held onto it tighter.  But in catching the map, he noticed a flower just up a bit from him.  He looked at it.  Narrowing his eyes he thought back.  White flower.  Lelianna mentioned something about this flower.  That her mother always kept a dry flower in her closet.  Andraste's Grace.  That is how Lelianna remembered her mother.  It was the smell of the flower.  He looked back to see Lelianna checking her bow.  Looking back at the flower, he went over and picked it.  He studied it a moment.

Over the past couple of months, he and Lelianna grew closer.  The seemed to walk together more and strike up odd conversations at times.  They would laugh together.  And recently, they came across a caravan attacked by Darkspawn.  The Darkspawn wasted no time in attacking the defenseless.  And not all of the innocents made it.  Four died.  Lelianna could tell that Vorax blamed himself for not getting there sooner.  The night after the attack, she saw Vorax just staring at the fire.  When he got up to spend some time alone, she followed him.  She walked over to him and placed her hands on his shoulders.  He tensed up, and then his shoulders slumped.  He was quiet.  The more Lelianna spent with him, the more she knew when he was quiet, he was blaming himself for failing the Maker.  His breath was staggered.  His sensitivity was showing.

"You do all one man can do, Vor.  Please don't blame yourself." Lelianna said softly.

"I know, Leli.  But it does not make it any easier.  Forgive me."  He shook his head.

"No...this is what I like.  Is that you are so compassionate about life.  Never apologize for that."  She turned him around and hugged him.  He hugged her back.

Vorax shook his thoughts away as he looked back at Lelianna.  Her back was too him and she smiled as she could tell he was behind her.  She looked up and smiled at him.  "Yes?"

Vorax rubbed the back of his neck.  "Do you remember when you were telling me about your mother. There was something that I though you might like and...well...I didn't....that is..."  He kept his hand behind his back holding the flower.  He sighed.  "Oh sod it....I picked this and thought of you."  He gave her the white flower.

"Oh!  How dear of you!  Thank you so much!"  Lelianna held the flower close and smiled widely at Vorax.

"Go ahead and tell me if you like its fragrence."

Lelianna sniffed the flower and her eyes went wide.  "This...Andraste's Grace?  My mother kept its dried petals...you remembered?"  She tilted her head and looked at Vorax.  He nodded slowly.  She smiled and standing her her toes, gave him a kiss on the cheek.  "Thank you.  So much."

If his whiskers could stand on end, they would have at her kiss.  His face again going three shades of red. "You...you are welcome, Lelianna.  I...umm...need to check on...umm...Allistair....and...yes..." He moved towards Allistair and tripped over a root.  Lelianna laughed at his boyish faultering.  He got up and dusted himself off and tried so hard not to do that again.  No grace in tripped in front of the woman he was falling in love with.  In love with.  Was it love?  If he blushed at her kiss, and was embarassed and faultered...it had to be.  Did she feel the same?  He still was having a hard time telling.

Lelianna smelled the flower again and held it to her heart watching him.  She smiled.

At camp later that night, Vorax was talking with Lelianna.  She asked him if he knew about the Dalish elves and he just shook his head.  She told him that she remembered a song that she learned from an elf and asked if he wanted to hear it.  He nodded.  "Of course."

Lelianna took out her lute and began to play.  As she sang, her voice captured him.    He was drawn into the words she sang and he watched her.  Maskron lay down as she sang.  Morrigan looked toward them and shook her head.  Stenn looked at Lelianna and then look back to the direction he looked in and lowered his head.  Allistair just listened.  Vorax blinked slowly.  The song was so beautiful.  But Lelianna only made it more so.  As the song came to a close, Vorax could barely even speak.  The words caught in his throat.  She looked at him and smiled.

"Lelianna, that was...beautiful.  Do you..do you sing for many?"  He asked her.

"No.  Though there are some that I do not mind singing for.  Of course if it bothers..."

"Of course it does not.  Your voice is....such a blessing...so beautiful." Vorax again snapped to the realization to what he said.  Andraste's Blood what was he saying?!?!  He didn't even know if she felt the same way.

Lelianna smiled.  "Thank you."  Lelianna herself had wondered if Vorax felt the way she started to feel.  She tried dropping subtle hints but, Vorax didn't always pick up on them.  Maybe now was the time to drop a more direct insinuation.  "The stars are beautiful tonight.  I sometimes wonder if others really notice the beauty the Maker blessed us with.  And I wonder if there is such time to ponder such beauty."

Vorax looked up briefly.  "They are."  He looks back at her.  "But there is nothing wrong with taking time to observe such things.  To allow us moments of safety and peace."

Lelianna tried to sigh slowly.  Here it goes. "There are times.  Like when we are on watch together.  I enjoy those times.  Where we talk.  Well, I talk and you listen mostly.  And then there are times when I give into sleep.  And I wake up to see you still awake.  ANd I know you are watching over me."

Vorax remembered those nights.  The days troubles had taken their toll on everyone and when Lelianna fell asleep on their watch.  He steeled himself to stay awake.  He would wrap her in his cloak and allowed her to rest.  He would protect her.  The others as well obviously.  But her all the more.  "You need never fear any harm.  I will always protect you, Leli." Vorax swallowed hard.  Maker he hoped he was saying the right things.

"I trust you.  I feel
comfortable around you.  I mean...you are our leader...and...my friend...and...I was wondering...hoping that..m-maybe we could be more than friends.  Oh listen to me.  Talking like an ill educated peasant girl."  She blushed.

Vorax nearly let out a huge sigh.  It was like three anvils were lifted from his chest.  She did feel the same way as he.  Of course that didn't count for his heart racing like a mabari chasing a hofington hare.  "I feel the same way, Lelianna."

"What?  And no one told me.  And you let me ramble on like that?  Oh chivalry is so dead.  Making the girl spill her guts like that."  Lelianna was either acting perturbed about this or she was really perturbed.

"I'm sorry, Lelianna, I didn't mean to make you feel embarassed."

"I am not embarassed.  I am flushed....from...the heat."  She was blushing again.  "But it is good to say what we feel.  What happens now?"

Vorax closed his eyes.  Maker strike him down should he do the wrong thing.  He slowly stepped forward and touched Lelianna's cheek.  He slowly pulled her towards him and kissed her.  This time, he made the first move.  And Lelianna relished the kiss they shared.

After a few moments, he slowly broke their kiss.  She smiled, still flushed from the kiss.  "Well..ummm....I guess that settles it."

Vorax bowed, smiling, flushed himself still.  He moved back to the log he sat on.  She went inside her tent.  Allistair looked at his friend.  "Well, it seems someone had some fun."

Vorax just laughed.  Things were changing.  For once, he could put the Blight behind him for one night, and take in this beautiful night.

Four days later.

The battle against the undead in Redcliffe had everyone on edge.  Allistair more that most.  And it was a tough fight.  But not as tough as when Allistair saw Conner possessed by a demon.  He looked to Vorax now more than ever.  As they entered fought their way through the waves of undead in the castle, they made it to the main hall.  Vorax was focused.  If the demons were possessing more people, then things were going downhill quick.  Lelianna learned there were two types of silence to Vorax.  One when he felt responsible for failing innocents and another that drew him into times of no option for failure.  And saving this boy was a time where failure was no option at all.  At the same time, Vorax learned about Lelianna's little signs.  When something pleased her and when she disagreed wholeheartedly with a choice.  And there were time when the two couldn't agree to disagree.  But on the whole, Lelianna and Vorax were very happy being with each other.  They knew when to give each other space and when to truly be there for one another.

Vorax stopped just short of the step up to where Connor, Lady Isolde, and the "possessed" Teagan were.  Four guards stood around them.

"Mother, what is this that stands before me.  I can barely see him."  Connors voice carried the voice of the demon.

"It is...just a man, Connor."  Isolde responded.  She was a broken woman seeing her son like this.

Connor looked at Vorax.  "YOU!  I should have known you would come here, boy.  Is it too much to hope for you to DIE for once?"

"Perhaps it is something you demons should stop trying so hard to accomplish.  Release the boy, and perhaps the next time I am in the Fade I may ignore your stupidity."  Vorax's fists were clenched tight.

"You've come here to ruin my fun!  First you save that pathetic village and now you think you'll fight me here?!"  The sneer almost brought Isolde to tears hearing Connor speak like this.  "I will rule this kingdom!  No one will tell me what to do!  I will rule this world!  I will....."  Connor seemed to rub his forhead.  "Mother...?"

"Oh Blessed Maker!  Connor!  Are you alright?!  Please, talk to me!"  It was everything for her not to embrace her son.

Connor covered his eyes.  He turned to her.  "SILENCE, FOOL WOMAN!  You are starting to annoy me!  But let's keep this civil."  He turned to Vorax.  "What do you want here?"

Attacking Connor would do nothing to help the situation.  He was just a boy.  If he dabbled in this magic he didn't know or understand the consequences, even if trying to help his father.  Allistair and Lelianna watched Vorax.  He seemed to calm down, edging the demon on was not the way to win this particular fight.  After a few seconds of thought, he looked up at Connor.  "I am here to help, if I can."

"Help my father?  Help me?  Help yourself?  WHICH?!"

"To help the people you have terrorized."  Vorax spoke evenly.

"So you are here to truly ruin my fun.  First mother sends the guards away and now you!  You will entertain me, Vorax!"  The guards ran towards the group as did Bann Teagan.  But Connor ran away.  Isolde ran to the corner, covering her eyes praying that no one would die.

Bringing up his shield, Vorax deflected the first attack.  "Try not to kill anyone if you can help it!  And do not kill Bann Teagan!"  Vorax smashed the guard on the side of the head, sending him flying into the wall from the impact of the shield.

The fight didn't last long.  None of the guards perished and neither did Bann Teagan.  Isolde saw Teagan and ran over to hug him.  "Thank the Maker!  I do not know what I would have done had you died, Teagan."

Lelianna smiled.  Vorax was trying to so hard to keep everyone alive.  The group discussed how to best help Connor.  Jowan was there as well.  Though that was some contention between the group.  Knowing Jowan was a Blood Mage and letting him free didn't sit well with Allistair.  But there wasn't a whole lot of options when help was needed.  He would have to speak to Allistair about this.  Jowan told about one mage entering the Fade.  But that it would require a person's life force to replace the Lyrium portion.  All of it.  A sacrifice in other words.  Isolde lowered her head and offered her own life to save Connor to fight the demon.  Allistair openly protested this.  Lelianna frowned and also voiced her protest.

Vorax knew full well about this, and to him, sacrificing a life to save a life was no option.  "NO!  This is not an option at all!  No one will be sacrificed and I will NOT kill the boy!" His dark voice echoing angrily.  Jowan jumped back a bit.  And his enraged response did startle Lelianna a bit even thought at the same time she sighed that he would not take the easy way out.  "The Circle of Magi is not far from here."

"That's right.  And we have a treaty with them." Allistair said thoughtfully.

"The tower is a day's trip to the north.  We will keep an eye of Connor and keep Jowan here to help.

"He will not stay passive for long.  Please, hurry." Isolde pleaded.

Vorax turned and headed straight for the gates.

Later that night:

Allistair and Lelianna prepared their weapons before bed.  Vorax was only taking two with him.  They could get help at the Tower of the Circle.  As he sat and looked over his father's notes about the Fade, Lelianna came over and sat next to him.  He smiled as he looked at her.  He couldn't help by smile.  "Yes, Leli?"

"Do you remember our conversation?  About Marjolaine?"

Vorax closed the book and thought for a moment.  "Yes, I do remember."  How could he forget.  It was only the second time he ever summoned his Revanent around her.  They were ambushed by bandits and when Vorax heard the leader yell: 'KILL THE RED HAIRED GIRL!' , Vorax could only think of protecting Lelianna.  He summoned the Revanent to protect her and they learned from the coward that someone had put a hit out on her.  Lelianna knew it was Marjolaine.  Two days after the assault, Vorax made it a point to go to Denerim.  Welcomed or not, they would get answers.  The conversation with Marjolaine had deteriorated quickly.  When she told Vorax that he could not trust Lelianna....it was almost as if it was as if the Chantry telling him he was reviled and condemned again, told he had no choice but to believe them alone and no one else.  This alone made him even more defiant.  "I trust Lelianna with my life, regardless of what you say, Marjolaine."  Vorax watched Lelianna's face brighten a bit as he said that.  Of course that had only really told each other how they felt about each other two days before hand.  He listened to Lelianna and Marjolaine talk.  Marjolaine refused to give up the hunt to kill Lelianna.  She knew too much.  And Vorax would be damned if he would let anyone hurt Lelianna.  A fight insued and during the fight, he caught sight of Lelianna and saw her kill Marjolaine.  He snapped the neck of the mage he was fighting and sheathed his weapon and shield.  He walked over to her, he wanted to embrace her...but he could tell she was in shock.  'I killed her...she's...dead...' was all he heard Lelianna say.  She wanted time alone and he would give it to her at camp.  He would let her talk when she was ready.  And talk they did a day or so later.  Lelianna was afraid she was becoming Marjolaine.  But Vorax pointed out several things.  Things that were glaring differences.  She left the Chantry to help others, and that Lelianna chose her path.  As did Marjolaine.  But that Lelianna's was, in his eyes, the best path.  Hoping that his words would strengthen her own resolve.

Vorax shook the memory from his head.  He looked at Lelianna.

"You were right, Vor.  Marjolaine chose her path.  And I chose mine.  The Maker may not have given me the dream.  But I know he guides me through it.  I see now that it takes someone else to help you see things so much clearer.  Thank you."  She kissed him on the cheek.

Smiling, Vorax bowed his head.  "You are very welcome, Leli."  He pulled her close and held her as she rested her head on his shoulder."

The next day did not bring anything good.  When the small group entered the Tower of the Circle, Vorax was not welcomed with any kind of warmth.  Though he came to expect this normally, it was only compounded by the fact that Greagoire told him about the Abominations.  Though he was clear to point out that Vorax should feel right at home among them.  Vorax brushed the insult aside.  There were more important things to worry about.  Vorax told Gregoire to open the doors to the tower.  That he would go in and save as many mages as he could.  The knight commander told the group he would only get the assurance of Irving that the tower was safe before he would open the doors again.  That was more than enough.  Demons, Abominations.  This was his worst nightmare come true, and now he brought the woman he cared for so deeply into this nightmare.  But there was no turning back.  Not now.  They carefully searched the rooms, Allistair walking as cautiously as Vorax.  Lelianna watching the both of them, following their steps.  Allistair spoke far more than Vorax did.  And Leli wanted to know what her love was thinking.

Love.  Was that really what it was?  Sure, she felt something with him.  A very strong attraction.  They did profess how they felt.  That they were more than friends.  His kiss made her feel alive.  But it never seemed to go beyond that.  And he never brought up sleeping with her.  He wasn't the most handsome person in the world.  But she learned that his rugged looks only added to his charm.  He never pushed her on issues.  He was so respectful around her.  And at times goofy, intentional or not.  For a moment she blushed thinking about it.  Maybe it really was love.  The love she told him about in the tale she told him about the princess and the soldier.  But why didn't he say anything?  Lelianna moved up and grabbed Vorax's arm. "Vor...what's wrong?  Please tell me what you're thinking."

He stopped just short of opening the door to the next room.  "Leli...this is a nightmare come true.  And I have dragged you into it.  I prayed that you would never have had to experience this.  But here we are, in my worst nightmare."  He turned to her.  "There are many things I wish to tell you, but this is not the time.  And we must save the mages."  She could see the look in his eyes.  He was holding something back.  But she trusted him.

When the small group got into the room, Wynne had just finished off a lesser rage demon.  She turned and saw Vorax.  "So have the Templars become so desperate that they send you, Dark Templar?"

One insult after another.  Had the Chantry really dragged his name through the mud so badly that now even the Circle of Magi insult him?  " I am not here for the Templars, Enchanter Wynne.  I am here to save as many of you as I and my group can.  And do not worry, the Rite of Annulment as not arrived yet.  We have time, but not much."

"So Gregoire thinks the Circle is lost."

The two talked a few minutes and Wynne decided to accompany them to save Irving and the other mages.  And as many as could be saved.  Vorax looked at the children and walked over to them.  Touching the litte girl's cheek and rubbing the boy's head.  "If nothing else, we are saving these childlren.  And that means more than anything the Templars decide."

Lelianna could not help but touch her heart.  His words brought her closer to knowing that she did truly and deeply love him.

The group made their way up the tower.  None but Wynne had ever faced an Abomination.  When they killed one, it rumbled.  Soon after exploding in a ball of fire.  Vorax grabbed Lelianna and shielded her from the blast.  This was going to be harder than he thought.

When they reached the First Enchater's room, Vorax was rifling through some books looking for anything that could help them here.  Lelianna and Wynne stood near the door.

"Wynne, what do you know about Vorax?"  Lelianna asked as she watched him.

"More than I should. His father did studies on the Fade.  And his mother sent a letter to me telling me about what had happened.  Some would call him an abomination.  But in truth, he's caught between two worlds.  So to speak.  He is human, but also possesses the essence of a demon.  Not that he had a choice.  I've seen him in the Fade.  He's as alert there as he is here.  So for him to dream, it would be nothing more than an annoyance to him.  Because he knows its not real."  Wynne studied Vorax a moment.

"And the demons hate him because he defeated one as a child?"

"The demons probably hate him because of that.  But moreso because he doesn't give into the corruption of the essence.  In this one world, he fights two wars.  One against the Blight.  And one against the corruption in him.  The more good he does, the more the corruption loses its ability to take hold of him.  With as easily as he seems to do the right thing, I would say the essence has lost most of its strength to control him.  He is who he is and he's accepted that.  Which makes it easier."  Wynne watched Vorax put a pile of papers down.

"There is nothing here to help us.  Let's move on."  Vorax picked up his shield and they moved to the next level of the tower.  More demons appeared on this level.  Arcane Horrors.  Undead mages in other words possessed by lesser demons.  Not so easily dispatched but dispatched nonetheless.  He looked on the corpse of the Horror.  "Wynne, could any of these be Niall with the Litany?"

"Possibly.  But if we haven't seen it by now."

"Uldred could have it." He groaned.

"Maybe.  So many things are uncertain."

As he reached the door, he opened it seeing a massive abomination standing over the corpse of Niall.  Drawing his sword he prepared to fight.  "What have you done to him!"

"Ahhhh...Vorax.  And you brought visitors.  He was so very tired.  I would fight you but...that would take too much effort.  Wouldn't you rather rest?"  The Sloth demon said in the Abomination.

The group struggled to stay awake: "Resist!  Do not fall asleep!" Wynne called out.

"I...will not....listen to your...lies...demon..."  Lelianna tried to cover her ears.  She saw Vorax fighting to stay standing and tried to move to him.  Her footsteps getting so heavy. "V..Vor....ax...."  She tried reaching for him.

"Yes...rest...the world will go on without you."  The spell from the demon intensified.

As Lelianna sleepily reached Vorax, he dropped his sword and shield, his body stiffening for a second and then suddenly falling to the floor hard.  Lelianna tried to wake him, but she fell asleep, her arm draped over him.  The others collapsing to sleep as well.

In the Fade:

Vorax appeared in the Fade.  Cursing angrily.  "Son of a....Sloth, I swear to Andraste if you harm my friends...." He closed his eyes a second and his sword and shield appeared in his hands.  At the last second before sleep overtook him, Vorax released his spirit to the Fade, so that he did not fall to the tricks of the demons should he be caught off guard.  "I have to find them, Lelianna, Wynne, Allistair.  If they linger here too long...I will not lose Lelianna like this!"  He knew the tricks of the Fade.  Though his shapeshifting was very very rusty.  He managed to find the other dreamers to help him remember how to.  "Valor!  I need your help!"

The spirit of Valor appeared to Vorax.  "It's been some time, boy.  You have not called to me since you started learning your place in the Fade.  To call me now, things must be dire."

"Valor, I need your help.  I have seen many points of the Fade, but this is new to me.  I had to release my spirit from my body before Sloth could overtake my will.  But the woman I love is here along with my companions."  Vorax was growing impatient, and for once, nervous.  He knew there wasn't much time.

"Still your impatience, boy.  You are in the Raw Fade.  Doing what you did puts you in control.  There are many islands here.  But how you get to them you have to learn for youself.  I can sense you have relearned how to shapeshift in the Fade.  Use that to find your friend and defeat the demons to get to Sloth.  But remember, to them, you will be a shadow and stranger.  They will not realize they are dreaming."

Vorax bowed.  "Thank you, old friend.  I must hurry."

Vorax, one by one, did face the demons of the Fade.  Vehela, Sloth's second in command, as it were, was the last to fall.  After all the demons, save for Sloth, were defeated, Vorax moved to the seperate islands.  He found Allistair and Wynne, "waking" them from their dreaming.  He found Lelianna on the last island.

"Leli.  Thank the Maker you are safe."  He exhaled heavily.  Quietly thanking Andraste.  But what he heard next turned his blood to ice.

"I'm...sorry.  I don't remember you."  Lelianna said.

"Please, do not confuse the girl.  You are disturbing her prayers." The "mother" replied indignantly.

Vorax glared at the demon in disguise.  He looked back at Lelianna, removing his helmet.  "Leli, do you remember what you told me about why you left the cloister?  About the vision of the Maker?"

Lelianna remember, though she was struggling.  "Yes.  The vision..."

"Lelianna, we talked about this.  The Maker doesn't care to send visions.  It was probably a demon."

"Oh quite.  You would know about them wouldn't you, demon?" Vorax moved a step closer to Lelianna.

"The Revered Mother knew about my dream.  I do not know who you are."   She looked back at Vorax.  "I'm still not sure who you are...but I...trust you."

The demon roared.  "NO!  SHE IS OURS!"  The image of the Revered Mother faded and a shade appeared.  Vorax pulled Lelianna back and lashed out, slaying the demon quickly before it could take hold of her again.

"Holy Maker!  She was a....a....!" Fear was evident on her face.

"Yes, Leli...a demon.  But steel yourself, my precious Lelianna.  For we must face Sloth." He gave her a kiss on the cheek.  She started to fade away.

"Vorax?!  Where are you....?!" Leli disappeared.

"The final battle is now Sloth.  Your end is nigh!"  Vorax moved himself through the Fade to the final island.  As he appeared, Sloth stood at the center.  "Your fun is over, Sloth!  Now it is time to end this!"

"What is this?  You still defy me?  You won't win, Vorax.  None of you will."  He shifted his weight.

Lelianna, Wynne, and Allistair all appeared. "Oh, hey, there you are.  ANd here I am." Allistair's attempt at lightening the mood wasn't working.  "You tried to keep us apart, demon.  You failed."  Lelianna stepped up to Vorax's side.   "You will not win!" Wynne was as defiant as ever.

"If you all go back, I will try harder this time.  I promise to make you all much happier."  The demon chuckled a bit.

"We want NOTHING you have to offer, Sloth.  In fact killing you would be more than enough to make me happy."  Vorax put one foot forward, preparing to fight.

"I'm so very very hurt.  Can't you think of anyone but yourself?"

"ENOUGH!"  Vorax drew his blade as the other's drew their weapons.

"You dare to fight me?  You will learn to bow to your betters, mortal!"

The fight was draining.  On all of them.  Vorax more so because of the control he had to exert to change shape to his will.  But when all was said and done, Sloth fell.  But not before the resulting explosion hit Vorax.  No one else saw it.  But it caused Vorax to fall over in pain, clenching his heart.

Lelianna ran to his side.  "VORAX!"

He coughed violently, to some point coughing up blood.  Wynne went to his side as well.  Casting some healing magic on him.  "They want to torture him each time he kills one of the masters of the respective realm."

Outside of the Fade:

Everyone started to waked up.  And Vorax struggled to stand.  He rested a minute to get composure before moving on.  Fighting in the Fade took a great deal out of him.  But the good that came out of it, the essence in him weakened even more.  It was nearly to the point it was giving up trying to corrupt him.  After a few minutes, he stood and took the Litany from Niall's body.  The final fight was upon them.  Again, they made their way to the top of the tower.  Once there, and outside the door of the Harrowing Chamber, Vorax stopped.  He turned and looked at Wynne, and Allistair.  And moved close to Lelianna.  Her eyes met with his.

"Lelianna, please forgive me for dragging you into this.  I want to give you a happy life.  I did not want to put you through this nightmare.  But if something should happen...."

Lelianna tilted her head, confused. "Vorax, what....?"

He took her in his arms and kissed her deeply before she could finish.  Not that she resisted.  She blinked, and smiled.  He looked at her.  "I do love you.  More than you can possibly realize."  He brushed her hair with his armored hand.  "Let us finish this fight."

Upon entering the Chamber, what the group saw....it was horrible.  The mages tortured.  One turned in to an abomination before their eyes.  Uldred turned to see the group.

"Ahh, Wynne.  I see you've finally arrived.  Come to accept the gift I offer?" Uldred cackled.

"What you're doing here....its abhorrant!"

"Bah!  The Chantry would deny us what it is to be powerful.  To move onto the next stage of our....evolution."

"I do not call this evolution, Blood mage." This caught Uldred's attention.

"So, I see they finally go so desperate that they called you, hmm, Dark Templar?  It doesn't matter.  You can share in this great gift.  Not just have an essence in you, but a real demon to make your potential all the more powerful.  Think of the possiblities."

"You are insane, Uldred.  I would never allow a demon to control me.  Just having the essence of a Pride demon in me is enough to know I will never allow one of your pets to take full control.  This wasn't even my choice."  Vorax snarled.  Even the though of what Uldred was saying.  It was unfathomable.

"Uldred?  Uldred is dead.  Then again, I am Uldred, and not Uldred.  But something more."  He was right.  He had transformed into a Pride Demon.

Vorax's eyes went wide, for but a second, the demon was going right for Lelianna.   Allistair did his best to stop the demon, but it practically threw Allistair at her.  The pride demon laughed and looked at the mage, then Vorax.  It started to chant but remembering the Litany, he called out the words to stop the mind control of the demon.  It turned to face Vorax.  Angered at his interference.  Wynne was trying to hold off the Abominations.  Allistair staggered to his feet but Lelianna was hurt.  She held her side from the impact of Allistair being throw at her. A piece of wood jutted out from her side.  As she tried to pull it out she screamed in pain.  She must have been impaled by a broken beam or some frame from a window.

She looked at Vorax fighting back tears.  This...this alone spurned Vorax to act.  It was not her time.  It was not her time he kept telling himself.  The last abomination fell and Wynne and Allistair ran to Lelianna.  With Vorax fighting, seeing to her wound was not a good idea, they could only make her comfortable for now and stop the bleeding.  Vorax raised his Revanent.  He repeated the words of Sloth, the words the Pride demon spoke to him nearly twelve years ago.

"YOU WILL BOW TO YOUR BETTERS, DEMON!"  Vorax charged, his Revanant using a mass pull to bring down the demon.  Each swing of Vorax's sword, each hit of his shield, was filled with emotion.  Sadness, rage, confusion.  The demon did catch him a few times, slamming Vorax in the side, two of his ribs cracking from the impacts.  But at the end of it all, Vorax hit the demon hard enough it fell back.  He jumped on Uldred, and drove his blade into the demons head, twisting it.   The fight was over.  As he got off of the fallen body, he grabbed his side, but he went over to Lelianna, ignoring the immense pain he felt.  His breathing was staggered.  But he would not let that stop him from helping his love.  He saw the wood through her side.  He placed his hand on her shoulder.  "Forgive me....Leli...this will...hurt..."  He looked at Wynne who was ready to cast her healing magic.  He counted to three and pulled the wood out of her side.  She cried out, but thankfully, Wynne's magic was already mending the wound.  Tears streamed down her cheek from the pain.  But she looked at Vorax.  He was forgoing his own injuries  He saw to her first.  She, like all the others he helped, was more important than himself.  He would live with this pain if only to see her free from harm.  He did love her.  He really did.  And it was that moment that she knew, in her heart, she loved him.  He was her love.

Wynne finished with Lelianna as Vorax helped Irving up.  Allistair helped Leli up and Wynne went over to see to Vorax.  "We have to get you healed, Vorax, you could...."

"See to the First Enchanter.  Do not worry.."  He grunted trying to hold up the First Enchanter. "...do not worry about me.  The others need help first."

The Circle of Magi agreed to help the Grey Wardens and help Connor to banish the Demon in him.

That night at the camp after the battle at the Circle Tower:

Lelianna touched her healed wound.  It didn't hurt really.  But thinking on it caused phantom pains.  Pains not really there only her mind putting them there the more she thought on it.  She watched Allistair help Vorax take off his armor.  She got up to see to Vorax and noticed that his left side was very badly bruised.  Wynne was sitting with the two men and gently pressed against the ribs...or lack there off.  Vorax nearly doubled over in pain.  Lelianna covered her mouth watching him writhe in pain.  "Maker...."

Wynne shook her head.  "As commendable as concern for the others is and was, you should have let me help you before.  Two of your ribs are broken and probably aggrivated from the lack of attention they should have had before.  But I guess in your shoes I would have done the same thing.  Lean back so I can try to heal them the best I can."

"I appreciate..."  He grunts a bit from what felt like pressure from the magic.  "...appreciate your concern, Wynne.  But I do not regret putting myself to the hazard for all of you.  Your well being comes before mine."  He turned his head slightly seeing Lelianna kneel next to him and putting her hands on his shoulders, kissing his cheek.

"Don't do it too often, love.  If you die I'm going to kill you."  Lelianna said jokingly.

Vorax laughed and then lurched forward a bit.  "Maker's Blood, don't make me laugh."  Though...he was still laughing a bit.  "I am sorry, Leli. I should have been faster."

"You aren't a demon, love.  I don't expect to walk away without a few scars."

"Are you alright, Leli?"  He nodded to her healed wound.

"It only hurts if I think about it." She said.  "But it'll leave a scar."

"We all will have our scars when this is over." Wynne was right.  Everyone will see this Blight in their mind for the next ten or so years.  And they never really go away.  "That should do it.  I would say to a few days to rest but I don't think you'll listen.  So rest up the best you can tonight, Vorax."

"Thank you, Wynne.  I will heed your sage advice."  Not like he could do much else.  For a few hours, Lelianna stayed with Vorax.  Allistair volunteered himself and Maskron to take the watch tonight so he could rest.  Vorax did notice that Lelianna was calling him, "her love".  He guessed everything was happening as the Maker and Andraste wished.  But he would never force anything on her.

The next day:

The trip back to Redcliffe had so far been uneventful.  Stenn took most of the group ahead, which included the merchant, the elf blacksmith, and the others of the group to Redcliffe.  Vorax, Lelianna, Allistair and Wynne followed a few hours after.  It was best to not draw attention to those protected by Stenn.  As Vorax and the others took another path to Redcliffe, Vorax stopped the group as his ribs were bothering him again.  He request a bit of a break from there trip.  Wynne actaully suggest it hours ago, but...Vorax was stubborn, of course.  Lelianna checked her bow, and Allistair checked his sword and shield.  Wynne tended to Vorax as a young woman ran up to the group.

"Please!  You must help us!  They attacked our caravan!"  The young woman seemed frightened and frantic.

Vorax didn't even give it a second thought.  "Everyone, ready yourself.  We have people to help."   He tried to push his pain aside the best he could.  He wasn't ready to fight according to Wynne and he took note of it, but it was not a debate at this point.

As the young woman walked towards the broken down cart, a young elf male came from around the side.  The woman smiled as she turned to look at the group.  Vorax glared at the woman and watched as the elf motioned for his men to surround them.  This was the very LAST thing Vorax needed.

"THE GREY WARDEN DIES HERE!" The elf shouted.  The mage prepared a spell but before she could finish, Lelianna fired a shot from her arrow.  Vorax roared in a rage, his dark demonic voice echoing, taunting the others to come after him.  He was heavily armored and armed.  A greater threat to the group than a bow wielding wench.  At the same time, his Revanent erupted from the ground, screeching a deathly howl.  Vorax grabbed one of the assassins and threw him into the cart, a piece of wood impaling the assassin through the heart.  Vorax then turned his attention to the lead assasin, Zevran.  With a swing of his sword he and Zevran clashed weapons.  A fairly matched fight except for the point where Zevran hit Vorax in the ribs.  With whatever strength Vorax mustered, he slammed his shield straight into Zevran's jaw.  Sending him flying backward.  A wise man once saying: Rage is a hell of an anesthetic.  The rest of the assassins fell quickly.  When the fight was said and done, Vorax staggered over to Zevran who was unconscious from the blow.

Lelianna quickly put Vorax's arm around her neck to help balance him.  "What do we do with this one, Vorax?"

"I say kill him and get it over with." Allistair quipped.

Vorax thought a moment.  Wynne again used her healing magic to help heal Vorax's now bruised ribs.  He thanked Wynne and embraced Lelianna.  "We will speak to him to find out what he knows.  Then we will decide whether to kill him or not."

Allistair nudged Zevran with his foot.  The assassin groaned as he came too.  Seeing Vorax standing over him, his arms crossed and his Revanent standing next to him, Zevran knew this was bad.  "Ooow...oh....damn.  I thought I would have been dead by now.  Or at least not have woken up at all if you know what I mean."  Zevran was taken aback at Vorax's voice.  Most were at first.

"I want some questions answered, assassin.  Provide us with the answers we desire and you may survive."  If he could see Vorax's eyes, they would not have been pleasant.

"Ahhh.  It's to be an interrogation I see, eh?  Who'd thought I'd be soundly defeated and interrogated by a handsome Warden?  Let me save you time, yes?  I am Zevran.  Zev to my friends.  And I am one of the Antivan Crows."

"What are the Antivan Crows?"  Vorax asked.

"I can tell you that." Lelianna perked up.  "They are some of the best assassins and infiltrators in all of Antiva.  Or at least, they were."

"She is right.  Of course, you are a person to give them pause, my friend." Zevran was trying to make light of things.  Of course, Vorax wasn't in the mood.

"Who hired you?"

"A taciturn fellow by the name of Loghaine.  I do not know what his problem is with you but I have a feeling it is because you threaten his power and standing, no?"

Vorax should have expected this.  Has Loghaine really gotten that desperate that he hired, what Vorax thought, was a pathetic excuse for an assassin?  "How much did he pay you to attempt to kill me?"

"He paid me nothing to be honest.  The Crows are another story.  Which makes me about as poor as a chantry mouse come to think of it.  But if I succeed, I would have been paid a great deal by the Crows."

"If you succeed?" Vorax growled.

"What can I say, eh?  I'm an eternal optimist."

"Are you loyal to Loghaine?"

"To Loghaine?  No.  The Crows were another story.  Of course that changes when you fail and they will kill you for failing.  Sort of changes how loyal one is, no?" Zevran laughed then....realized Vorax wasn't laughing.  "No.  You wouldn't find that funny would you.  If you are done interrogating me and are not looking to readily slit my thoat or some other gruesome fate, I have an offer I can make you."

Vorax was leery about this man.  He tried to kill him and the others now he wanted to make a deal?   "Speak, mortal.  But know I am watching you."

"Seeing as how I failed to kill you, I would be killed for failing my task by the Crows.  So, let me help you.  I will serve you for as long as you see fit.  If you decide that you wish to let me go, then I will leave with no quarrel.  Until then you would have my sworn oath of loyalty."

"Can I expect the same amount of loyalty from you that you have shown to the Crows?"

"Well, as long as you don't decide to kill me if I fail.  Then I don't come so highly recommended."

Vorax began to think.  "You must think I am very stupid."

"No, I think you are very hard to defeat.  Which again, will give the Crows pause to kill you.  They won't touch me or you because of how hard you are to kill."

Vorax turned around a minute.  The Revanant move forward slightly drawing its sword.  Just preparing itself.  Lelianna walked up to Vorax and put her arm in his and spoke very softly.  "Love...please tell me what you're thinking?"  Vorax was deep in thought.  Zevran did say earlier he could help them avoid any Crow traps.  Maybe.  Turning his head to Lelianna he lowered his voice as best he could.  "I am unsure whether to trust him.  But I cannot kill a man who wishes to attone."

"It isn't as if he can ambush you again.  And I know you, you would regret killing him."  Lelianna whispered.

Vorax nodded and turned to face Zevran.  "Very well, Zevran.  I will let you live.  And we could use your help."  The Revanent backed down and stood behind Vorax again.

Zevran stood up.  "Excellent.  I swear an oath of loyalty to you until you decide otherwise."

"Welcome, Zevran." Lelianna said smiling.  "We're honored to have you with us."

"Ahhh...are you another companion-to-be?  Such lovely companions are always a plus, no?"

"Or maybe not." Lelianna said a little disgusted.

Vorax with one deft move, turned and grabbed Zevran, drawing him close and growling angrily.  "Do not push your luck, elf."

"Ah...I understand.  Your special someone.  So that means hands off.  Got it."  Again, Zevran was making light of the situation but did understand Vorax's order.

Vorax let him go and turned in time to hear Allistair pipe in.  "Are you serious?  An assassin?!"

"We require all the help we can get, Allistair."  Vorax responded.

Allistair just groaned. "Alright, I see your point.  But if there was a time when we announced we're desperate, I think it just knocked."

The group moved  towards Redcliffe castle to meet up with the others with the new member in tow.

Freeing Connor of the demon was no easy feat.  But, thankfully, Wynne agreed to go into the Fade to save the boy and defeat the demon.  It took a few hours of getting through illusions and the like.  But Wynne did defeat the Desire demon.  No deals were made, only the death of the demon.  Lady Isolde was very thankful that the family did not need to be sacrificed.  She thanked Vorax emphatically as did Bann Teagan.  But their task was not done.  The next was to get the Urn of Sacred Ashes.  Vorax figured it was a fool's task.  But, he would try.  For the arlessa's family.

Two nights later at the camp:

The trip to Haven would take a few more days.  It was a long trip and alot of climbing steep hills.  Vorax seemed a bit uncomfortable, but not from the wound he had with his ribs, which was mostly healed at this point.  He walked over to Allistair and decided to ask him something.  Zevran indescreetly sat up to see if he could hear the conversation.

"Allistair, may I ask you a question?"  Vorax tried to remain composed.

"Of course, my friend.  What's on your mind?"

"In the Chantry, did you ever.....?"

"Did I ever....what?  Have a dog?  Kiss a Darkspawn?  What?"  Allistair was actaully being humorous.

"You understand what I mean...you know...."  Aggrivation was setting in a bit.

"No I don't."

"For the.....sex,  Allistair.  Have you ever had sex?"

"Well, it was the Chantry and I mean you couldn't exactly chase down the sisters, it would've looked bad.  But...have you?"  He actaully asked in earnest.

Vorax sighed.  First of all it was embarassing to even ASK the question.  The Dark Templar afraid to even ask something as stupid as this.  He was with Lelianna and he had to ask this question?  "No.  I have not."

Allistair saw the look in his eyes.  Allistair frowned but clamped his friend's shoulder.  "You're not the only one who hasn't.  Even I haven't.  But...can we not talk about this anymore?"

Vorax just nodded and walked over towards Maskron.  Petting his Mabari.  Damn it was embarassing to ask the question, even to his friend.  Zevran chuckled to himself.  Not insulting Vorax...but it was the strain of the conversation that made him chuckle.  And the possible issue with Lelianna this was going to be.  But Zevran kept it to himself.

Two nights later:

After another long couple of days, the group made camp again.  Vorax didn't seem as uncomfortable as before, but he could have been hiding it.  Lelianna looked at Vorax.  She loved him.  And it was obvious he loved her. With as long as they've been together, she wondered why he didn't ask her to sleep with him.  He was a gentleman.  No question about that.  She did try dropping subtle hints.  But he wasn't picking up on them.  He couldn't be that dense, could he?  Maybe, again, she would try the direct route.  She wanted this, to be with him.  To give herself to him.  Vorax came over to talk with Lelianna as he always did after he talked with the others.  She smiled and kissed him on the lips.

"You know, its getting late.  And I'm thinking of turning in."  She started dropping her hints.

"Mm...I can understand that.  It has been a long trip."  Vorax was actually acting normal.  "But did you not want to talk a bit?"

She giggled. "Of course I do.  But I can only think of how warm my bedroll would be. "

"Oh, then I will not keep you."

She couldn't believe this.  Was he really this dense?!?!  She couldn't tell if the expression on his face was real or if he was REALLY good at keeping up a facade.  She tried something a bit more direct, though still very very slightly subtle.  "I thought you might want to see my collection of dried pressed flower petals."

Vorax blinked a bit.  "I...did not know you kept such a collection.."

Lelianna was actaully losing her patience.  "I don't."  He was...he really was dense. "Why are you playing these games?" Zevran was sitting a ways away but could hear them.  He was trying so hard not to laugh.

"Lelianna...I...seriously do not know what you are saying."  He could see her getting flush and..for once...it made him really nervous.

"I want you to come to bed with me, Vorax.  I want you sleep with me.  There. I said it."  Lelianna was a bit more indignant.

"You...want...to have...sex?"  Vorax was stumbling over his words.

"Oh, now he gets it."  Lelianna looked like she was getting really upset.

Vorax stumbled backwards a bit.  "I...umm...oof!" He fell over a log.  "I...have to go and check the map for tomorrow's trek...yes...."  He got back up and briskly walked to his tent.  He felt like a complete idiot....he...didn't know what to do.  For the first time...this man had no idea.

Lelianna's jaw went slack.  She couldn't believe it.  He..turned her down? All the kisses..and...she clenched her fists.  Zevron was still just smiling as Lelianna walked towards the fire.

"Ahh...trouble in paradise I see?"  Zevran asked.  "You know, I know when you're upset."

"Shut up, Zevran!  I'm not in the mood!"  Yeah, she was really upset.

"Apparently neither was he."   Zevran cracked a chuckle.

Lelianna turned ready to punch Zevran.  "I swear to the Maker!"

"Of course it could have had something to do with that conversation our fearless...or now fearful...leader had with Allistair about...knocking the boots as it were, no?"  Zevran stayed calm and looking at the fire.

"What do you mean?  What the hell are you talking about?"  Lelianna was very indignant for a young lady from Orlais.

"You know not everyone is as....experienced...as you and I?"  He just continued to smile.

Lelianna looked towards Vorax's tent.  The realization suddenly hit her.  "Oh Maker's Mercy.  What have I done?"  She walked over slowly towards his tent which was set further back.

Allistair looked at Zevran.  "Did I miss something."

"Nothing you didn't not already know."  Zevron leaned back.

Vorax just sat in his tent.  Lelianna slowly slid inside.  He looked up then back down ashamed.  "Lelianna...I am...."

"Why didn't you tell me?  We've been together for so many months and you kept it a secret."  She didn't look angry at all.  More understanding now than anything.

"When you are reviled by the Chantry, people tend to stay away from you.  Some things, you feel you never need to worry about.  I never knew I would fall in love with you as deeply as I have.  So yes, being...inexperienced...I for once feel like a complete idiot.  And I fear I will not be able to...please you as you want."  Vorax seemed to feel hurt saying that.

Lelianna moved right next to him and turned his head towards her.  "You let me decide that.  And you aren't an idiot for being inexperienced.  As many have said, I am a good teacher.  And you are one pupil I won't mind teaching."

That forced a smile out of Vorax.  Though still nervous.  "Then I take it you will teach me?"

"With great pleasure.  Just follow my lead."  Lelianna kissed him deeply.

Hours later:

Lelianna sighed happily as she rested her head on Vorax's chest.  He was a bit hairer on the chest than others, but that only added to his rugged features.  She moved her head up and kissed him on the cheek.  "A very good student you are, my love."

"Andraste's Blood.  You, my dear Lelianna are an amazing teacher.  As much as I would prefer another lesson, I do not think I have the energy left."  He pulled Lelianna closer.  She too had no energy left.  But it was amazing.  He was amazing.

"I feel safe with you.  Safe, and loved.  You are all I ever wanted, Vorax." Lelianna was starting to feel sleepy.

"As you are all I ever require, my love."  Even Vorax himself could barely stay awake.  He pulled the sheets up to help cover them a bit more.

She could hear and feel his heartbeat.  She smiled.  It was in time with hers.  She held him tight as they fell asleep together.  Both waiting to see each other in the Fade.

Early Autumn:

Vorax looked down from the ridge at Soldier's Peak.  Levy Dryden always welcomed Vorax and the group back when they wanted somewhere a bit more "homey" to stay for a few nights. Vorax could see Ferelden.  His mind wandering a bit.  A hand took his and squeezed it gently.  He turned his head to see Lelianna standing next to him.  She looked at him, a slight smile pulling at the corners of her mouth, and a knowing look in her eyes.  Things had gotten more complicated as the months passed on.  The Darkspawn were attacking more and in greater numbers.  But also, things got better.  The love between Vorax and Lelianna grew.  They found themselves holding hands much more.  At times, it was a silent way of saying to one another: "I support you, no matter what."  Or: "I"m here for you."  Or just a much stronger way of both saying to each other: "I love you.  Now and forever, my heart."  Even when making love to each other, they found themselves holding hands as a strong sign of how far their love had grown.  Sometimes where words could not be spoken, they just held hands.

Vorax pulled Lelilanna to him, and wrapped her in his cloak to help keep her warm here on Soldier's Peak.  She rested her head on his chest, her left hand next to her head on his chest.  And a ring adorning her finger.  It was true, they did love each other.  But there were also rough spots they worked through.  Vorax thought back to the moment everything changed.

The Ruined Temple, Haven.  Three months ago:

"You have defiled our temple and spilled the blood of our children!  BLASPHEMERS!"  Kolrgrim screamed at the group.   "Why have you done this?!"

Vorax stood defiant.  Silent.  His eyes glowing under his helmet.  After a few moments he spoke.  "Tell me your name, mortal.  And I will tell you why we are here."

The man before the group glared daggers at Vorax.  This....dark armored knight dared speak in such a way to a Disciple of Andraste?!  "I am Kolgrim.  Disciple of Andraste.  We protect her and serve her.  Not even the Imperium can hope to slay her now."

Vorax tilted his head a bit.  Lelianna's mouth fell open a bit.  "That's...not possbile." She said unbelieving.

"Andraste is dead, disciple.  She has been for years."  Vorax didn't seem to change his disposition.

"YOU KNOW NOTHING!  YOU WILL BURN UNDER ANDRASTE'S WRATH!  TO ARMS MY BROTHERS!  TO ANDRASTE!  AND TO VICTORY!"  Kolgrim roared in anger.

The fight didn't last long.  These disciples were not so well trained as fighters.  And Vorax had no patience to deal with them.  The more resistance they ran into, the more the Arl would stay trapped in the Fade.  Wynne, Allistair, Lelianna and Vorax moved out of the ruined temple and to a bridge that led over to what seemed like another more complete temple.  As they walked, a massive dragon swooped up from under the bridge and perched itself on the over hangs above the path that led to the second temple.  The group hide behind some pillars on the bridge.

Vorax narrowed his eyes, looking at the beast.  "Maker's Blood.  A High Dragon."

"There's no way to reach it.  It would surely kill anything that tried to make its way to the Urn." Wynne surmised.

Vorax looked at the horn he took from the body of Kolgrim.  Then looked up at the dragon.

"They say music soothes the savage beast, but I'm not about to test that thoery."   Lelianna always seemed to bring humor in at a bad time.

"We do not have a great deal of choice.  Prepare yourselves, my friends.  This will be a hard fought battle."  Vorax took a few steps forward but Lelianna grabbed his arm.  As he looked at her, he knew the look in her eyes.  She was scared.  High Dragons were not known for being pushovers.  He took her hand and squeezed it as if saying: "It'll be alright."

The group moved forward towards the overhangs on the ridge above.  The High Dragon may have been resting, but that was about to change.  Vorax blew the horn and the dragon stood up, launching into the air and assaulting them as it landed hard.  Vorax was right, it was a hard fought battle.  The High Dragon at one point grabbed Vorax in its mouth and shook him violently, throwing him after into a stone pillar.  Vorax stood up shakily.  But this time, Lelianna was the one who saved him.  She aimed carefully and released the arrow she notched.  The arrow penetrated the eye of the dragon, and soon after, pierced its brain, killing it quickly.  The massive beast fell hard from the deathblow.  Lelianna ran over to Vorax.  He was no worse for the wear.  Just a bit dazed.  She sighed in relief.  Then hit him on the shoulder jokingly.

As the group entered the Temple of Andraste, they were met by a "guardian".  A guardian that protected the Urn of Sacred Ashes.  He told them that he had been waiting for the faithful to come to give reverence to Andraste and that these four must pass the test of faith.  Vorax thought carefully.  To a point, he was concerned that he would not be seen as faithful because of the demon essence in him.  He believed in the Maker and Andraste, but he was afraid that they did not believe him.  Somehow, the guardian seemed to pick up on this and looked at Vorax.

"Vorax Lemaras, Warden, and Dark Templar.  There is something I must know.  When you were six, you saw your father pass away in his sleep.  He protected you in the Fade.  Even though you were a child, and knowing what you did about the Fade for as young as you were, did you feel as if you had failed your father?"  The guardian waited for his answer.

Vorax lowered his head a bit.  This haunted him more than anything at times.  Could he have summoned something to help his father?  Could he have called out to the spirits of the Fade to protect him from the demons?  His expression fell grim and he fell very silent.  Lelianna didn't need to see his face to know what he was feeling.  She wanted to go to him and hold him.  But before she could he answered.  "Though you already know my answer, guardian.  Yes.  There are times that I wish I could have done something more to save him.  Perhaps he would still be here for mother, perhaps the demon essence would never have become part of me." He sighed unsteadily.  "But no matter how much I wish it, I cannot alter what occured."

"Thank you." The guardian bowed his head.  "You may proceed pilgrims."  The doors to the next part of the temple opened.  Riddles awaited the group here.  Each of those that had a part in Andraste's life, the spirits of her mother and others spoke to the group and told them of the path Andraste walked.  When the final riddle was answered correctly, the spirits opened the third door.   As Vorax led the others forward, he stopped dead in his steps.  Before him, his father stood.  His father's spirit at least.

Vorax...couldn't move, he removed his helmet.  "F...father...?"

"My boy.  How you've grown.  I am so proud of what you have accomplished in your life.  You have done so much.  No father could ever be prouder of his son."  The spirit smiled warmly.

Lelianna watched Vorax.  Her heart sank as she saw her love. This was tearing him apart.  A father he only knew for six years, a father he never truly knew because of the demons that killed him.

"Vorax, you need to let go.  No more do you need to concern yourself with me.  You have so much more to fight for.  Take this.  Let it help you through that which awaits you in the coming days.  And never forget that I always will love you my boy.  Andraste and the Maker have not forsaken you."  The spirit faded away.

Vorax stood there...his hand shaking as he held the amulet the spirit gave him.  "I will never forget, father.  I will never forget."  Lelianna moved over to him and embraced him.  He held her tight for a few moments.  She couldn't imagine how hard this was for him.  There were not many times of weakness for Vorax.  But here, now...he was at his weakest.  Lelianna was his strength.  The other two didn't say anything.  Even a great leader gave into his emotions.

After a bit, Vorax steeled himself.  His father was right.  And he would continue ahead.

Finally they arrived at the Urn, they passed through the "rebirth by fire".  The guardian greeted them and smiled again.  "You have proven yourself faithful.  Step forward to the Urn.  Maker and Andraste bless you."

As the group put their armor back on, they moved up to the Urn.  Wynne, Allistair and Lelianna were all in awe.

"I never thought I would look upon the Urn...upon Andraste.  I..I..I...I just have no words to describe this." Lelianna truly could barely speak being as pious as she was.

"Maker...is this real?  Andraste?" Allistair just stared at the urn.

"There is no greater moment in the world than this.  I am so honored to be here to experience it."  Wynne for a bit looked so much younger.

Vorax stood at the Urn his hand near it to take a pinch of the ashes to help Arl Eamon.  But he almost felt unworthy to even be near this thing.  He looked at the statue overlooking the ashes.  "Andraste....Maker...I do not know...I am not sure you see me as even worthy.  I am not human....a demon's essence lives in me.  I accept your judgement should you see fit to pass it now."  He closed his eyes after whispering these words.  He slowly moved his hand to the urn waiting to be struck down.  He took a pinch of the ashes and put them in the pouch.  He exhaled slowly.  "Thank you, Maker...Andraste....." he again whispered.

"They knew you were afraid.  Even after everything you have done to help people.  You questioned your own worthiness to them.  You never sought reward after helping people.  You protect in the Fade.  Your father was right."  Wynne said as she put her hand on his shoulder.  "Come, there is much to do."

As the group was leaving, Vorax was the last one to go near the door out.  But he stopped.  He looked up at Andraste, then at Lelianna.  She stopped when she did not see him close behind her.  She walked over to him.  "Love? What's...."

Vorax took her hand and pulled her in.  The other's questioning what the hell he was doing went back to where the Urn was as well.  As they got back, the saw Vorax with Lelianna up near the Urn.  Lelianna was completely confused.

Vorax had removed his helmet.  Being here, in this place...it was as if he was nothing more than just....well a man.  Not the Dark Templar, not a demon-touched being.  He looked at Lelianna.  His eyes no longer glowing. "Lelianna, I....I know this may not seem like the time.  But I must speak what is in my heart.  Foolish as that may sound."  He blinked slowly.  Closing his eyes for a second.  Lelianna started to really get scared.  Did he not want to be with her anymore?  She swallowed hard. "We have been with each other for many months.  What may feel like a lifetime." Vorax started.  "And even then, I felt as if I have known you for what seems like forever.  I will not lie.  When we are together, I begin to wonder what life would have been like had you not come into my life.  And I cannot even fathom the thought.  I cannot even...Lelianna...I cannot even be away from you without feeling that something is missing from my heart.  And I not ever wish to feel that.  I know that sometimes, I can be horrid to be around.  And that I drive you mad with somethings I do.  And I will not lie, there are time when you make me wish to face darkspawn in the Deep Roads rather than talk."  Lelianna knew those times.  Sometimes her talking just drove him nuts.  And sometimes, he drove her crazy with his insesant trying to protect everyone and blaming himself for failing when things go wrong.  But still, she loved him so much.  "But a life without you, Lelianna.  I..."  He shook his head.  "I just could not exist without in my life.  I feel empty without you.  That is why...Lelianna..I..."  He stumbled over his words as he reached into the sash he wore around his waist and pulled out a beautiful ring.  "Lelianna...please...I ask you..."  Vorax got on one knee.  "Before Andraste...and the Maker.  Will you accept a life with me...as my wife?"

Lelianna's mouth fell open a bit.  His words touched her more than any story ever told to her.  Tears streamed down her cheeks.  "Vorax...I...."  The words were catching in her throat.  The guardian appeared next to Wynne and Allistair.  He moved forward and whether Lelianna and Vorax knew he was there was unknown.  But no one said anything.  Letting the two have their moment.  Having this moment.  "Vorax...you are the first man to ever make me feel like I belong somewhere...with someone in this world.  When you're away...I worry and pray that the Maker brings you back to my arms.  I don't know what I would do if something happened to you.  When you asked me what would happen to us when the Blight ended, I told you I wanted you with me, no matter what.  You responded that you would follow me to the ends of the earth.  I'm going to hold you to that.  You are the first thing I see when I wake, and the last thing I see when I go to sleep."  Her words wavered through her tears.  "I can't be without you in my life.  And right here...right now...before the Maker and Andraste....I take you as my husband."

Vorax slid the ring on her finger.  Lelianna covered her mouth as she cried happily.  He stood and kissed her deeply.  A light illuminated the both of them.  Wynne and Allistair watched in awe.  The gaurdian spoke gently.  "The Maker and Andraste have heard your words and have been moved.  Before the Maker and his Bride.  You have been joined as husband and wife.  May your lives be fulfilled.  Through grief and sorrow, joy and love."

The guardian faded away slowly.  If there were anymore of a divine wedding, one would think Wynne and Allistair just witnessed it.

"Oh my...." Wynne said, choking on tears of joy seeing the two so happy.

"Well...this just added to the excitement of facing the Blight." Allistair chirped.  Wynne just hit him on the arm. "Ow...hey!"

For the moment...only they existed in the world.  Vorax and Lelianna kissed.  For a few moments, the Blight took a backseat to what was happening now.

Back to the present:

Vorax's thoughts were broken when he heard Oghren.  "Soddin' nug-licker! GET BACK HERE WITH THAT YOU SODDIN' MUTT!"

Vorax just shook his head chuckling a bit.  Lelianna also laughed hearing Oghren.  "Should we go and get Maskron before Oghren uses him for Darkspawn bait?" Lelianna asked.

"No, let them chase each other a bit more.  Oghren could use the exercise."  Both laughed as he held her.  "Are you happy, Lelianna?"

"More than you realize, husband.  More than you realize."  She kissed him deeply.  After a few minutes, both went back inside Warden's Keep to get warm.

(And yes, I know there are a few more touching "chapters" at this point.  But the action will be heating up again come the fight against the Archdemon)

One month later at Warden's Keep:

"The Dalish are giving us a bit of an issue trying to find them.  Either it's because of the Darkspawn, or because they've had to move because humans have been stumbling near their camps."  Vorax pointed at the map of the Bracilean Forest.  "The best we can hope for is that we get lucky.  I'm unsure of how willing they will be to help us."

Allistair rubbed his chin.  "Mmm...yes.  There was always some bit of contention wasn't there?"

"Soddin' elves need to lighten up a bit.  Get 'em good and drunk and maybe they'd be more willin' to listen."  Oghren replied as he downed a tankard.

"Dwarven tactics do not always work as intended with other races, my friend." Vorax said chuckling.  Humorous as the idea was.

The three pondered over a course of action to take as to how to find the Dalish.  As they did, Lelianna was finishing getting dressed.  She could for once wear something fashionable now that they had a bit of downtime.  She slipped on her shoes that Vorax bought her all those months ago.  When he presented them to her, her face lit up in excitement.  And the other day, he gave her the pendant that his mother wore before she passed it on to him to give to that "someone special".  Well, they didn't come any more special than Lelianna.  She put on Sword of Mercy and smiled as she looked in the mirror of their room.  She giggled and twirled a bit to see herself.  She felt like an actual woman.

"Lady Lelianna Lemaras." She said looking at herself in the mirror.  "It just sounds right."

"It had better.  You will be bearing my name for a long time, my wife."  Vorax stood in the doorway.  "You look magnificent, love."

Lelianna turned and smiled, blushing.  "For once I can look like a woman and not have to wear that clunky armor.  Eww." She made the same silly digusted looking face from when they talked about shoes a while back.

He could help but laugh a bit.  "Perhaps someday I will need to aquire some better clothing.  But being on the move does not give one much time to concern themselves with it.  Of course I may need your help.  You are much better at the fashion than I."  And was he telling the truth.  He tried like hell once to look fashionable.  But poor Lelianna just shook her head basically asking where she went wrong with him.

"Oh yes, we don't want to have that same incident from Redcliffe do we?"  She snickered.

"Do not remind me.  I thought the arlessa would throw me out."  He walked in and sat down in a chair just off from their bed.  She sat in his lap.

"Have you heard anything from your mother?  I know you talked about her before."

"No, and I grow...." Vorax turned his head as he heard Wynne call for him. And she sounded a bit concerned in her calling to him.  He got up and ran down to the lower level of the keep.  "Wynne, what is the matter?"

"Vorax, this messenger just arrived from Denerim.  You might want to hear what he has to say."  Wynne nodded to the courier.

"My lord Lemaras."  He bowed deeply.  "I bring grave word from Denerim.  The Arl Renden Howe has just purged the Alienage."  Lelianna could be heard gasping as she heard this.  She saw Vorax go stiff, then his fists clenching angrily. "My lord, we don't know if you mother....." Vorax pushed the courier out of the way and grabbed his sword and shield.

Oghren heard what happend and cursed.  "Oh soddin' nug-slugger.....Boy you aren't goin' anywhere without me, ya hear me!"

Zevran was a half step behind Oghren grabbing his daggers on the way.

Lelianna didn't know what to do.  She looked at Wynne who immediately was grabbing her components and went to her side to take her upstairs.  "Come on, Lelianna, we have to get ready.  If we don't stop him, Vorax is going to kill every guard to find his mother."

"Wynne...will he...do you really think he would go to such an extreme...to kill....?"  She'd never seen Vorax this angry before.  Sure, he was upset or..."mildly annoyed", putting it VERY lightly.

"You and his mother are all he has in this world.  To lose either of you.  I don't even want to start to think about the reprocussions.  But we have to hurry."

Lelianna did just that.  She put her armor on and lay her dress on the bed.  So much for being a woman for one day.

Denerim: two days later.

Vorax, Zevran, Oghren, and Maskron were headed straight for the Alienage.  Vorax said not one word the whole trip.  He was that furious.  He didn't even think about leaving Lelianna behind.  Or so he might have figured.  She wasn't with him.  But he wasn't going to get dragged into an argument with her about not coming to Denerim.  Thankfully, the women were not but an hour behind the men.  The Marketplace was huge. And there were guards everywhere.  At this point, Vorax didn't care.  He was going to get the answers he wanted.  He was going to find his mother.

"You go in there hot headed as you are and you'll get us all soddin' killed." Oghren pointed out.

"You did not have to come, Oghren.  You could have just as well stayed on Soldier's Peak." Vorax didn't even look at his dwarf companion.

"Ha!  You think I'm gonna put up with your wife screamin' at me because you went and got yourself killed lookin' for your mama?  There ain't enough ale in all of Fereldan that would prepare me for puttin' up with your wife, boy."  Oghren had a point, Lelianna wouldn't let him get away with letting Vorax just run off to settle a score.

"You know he has a point, my friend.  She's even more dangerous than you when she's angry.  And that's saying something.  Even I don't cross that line."  Zevran smiled.

Wynne, Lelianna, and Morrigan had just gotten to Denerim.  The looked quickly toward the crowd and just out of luck, Morrigan caught sight of Vorax going near the Alienage gate.  "Over there!  He is approaching that guard!"

Lelianna turned to see him and ran after him.  "Maker's Mercy please don't, love.  Please!"

Vorax got to the gate to the Alienage and the guard stopped him.  "By order of Arl Howe, the Alienage is closed off till the situation there is..." The gaurd grunted as Vorax slammed him into the wall.

"WHERE IS SHE?!  WHERE IS MY MOTHER!" Vorax was seething.

The guard cacked as Vorax applied pressure.  "I....I have no idea what you're...."

"Open the Alienage gate or I swear to Andraste I will end your life now!"  Vorax's dark voice echoed angrily.

"I s...swear!  I do not even know who your mother is!"  The guard began to panic.

Oghren quickly tried to pull Vorax off of the guard.  "Enough, boy!  He doesn't know, you don't need to kill 'em."

At that second, Lelianna took hold of Vorax other arm.  "Husband, stop!  Please!  This isn't going to help you find her!  Please, Vorax...stop.  I know you're scared to lose you mother.  But he doesn't know who she is or where she would be.  He's just a guard."  She tried to soothe Vorax from his rage.  She wondered of the demon essence was only exaserbating things.

"Then he dies!"  Vorax was ready to kill him.

"Vorax....stop.  Listen to my voice.  Please.  This isn't you.  If you kill him then you will be everything the Chantry said you were.  And you wouldn't be the man I married before Andraste and the Maker."  Lelianna was actaully getting upset with Vorax.  She was trying to calm him down but at the same time upset that he wasn't controlling himself better.

It was those words that stopped the Dark Templar.   He released the guard who looked at this man in complete horror.  Zevran brushed off the guard.  "You know, it might be best not to mention this to anyone, no?  I mean it would look bad if you were scared to death as a guard?  No promotion for you.  You might want to just go over and stand where you were."

Vorax shook his head.  Maker what came over him.  Why was he so blinded by rage.  He never felt that enraged before.  Could he be loosing the fight against the essence? He groaned a bit, shaking off the rage.  He looked up at Lelianna.  She was not happy and after he removed his helmet, she slapped him.  He deserved it, he knew it.  "Lelianna...I am...sorry I do not know what came over me."

Wynne walked over with Morrigan. "It's possible that the darkspawn blood you drank at the Joining is having some adverse affects.  Allistair did tell me that Duncan wasn't sure how it would affect you being you had the essence of a demon.  Maybe this was a trigger that gave the essense a chance to strengthen itself."

"Strengthen itself?  Soddin' kid was about to kill that guard."

"Yes, I know Oghren.  But it may have been enough."  Wynne thought about this a bit.

Lelianna looked at Vorax.  Her expression changed.  She had a hell of a time staying upset at him.  She kissed and embraced her husband.  She just didn't want to lose him.  As she did she heard an elvish voice.

"Vorax?  Vorax is that you?!"  A young elven woman came running over.  "Oh thank the Maker!  Come on!  She's been so worried about you!"

Vorax blinked.  "Macela?  What in the...."

She took his arm and practically dragged him.  Lelianna and the others very close behind.

In a warehouse, there were alot of elves.  Men, women and children.  As Vorax walked in, he just stood there, in shock.  "What in the name of Andraste is going on, Macela?"

"The previous Arl and his family are dead.  After they tried to take some of our people others revolted and slayed the family.  Arl Howe demanded a purge of the Alienage.  Some of us made it out.  Other....weren't so lucky."  She motioned over to another room.  As the door opened, he saw his mother sitting and reading a...well...it could have been a Fereldan bible.

"Sweet Maker!  Mother you are alive!"  Vorax felt like a wieght was lifted.  His mother running over and embracing her son.

She definately had a thick Orlaisian accent.  "Oh Vorax...after the Chantry banned you I was so worried and afraid you had died.  No one sent any word.  My sweet, sweet boy."  She kissed him and held him tight.

Vorax just sighed deeply.  He quietly thanked the Maker and then composed himself.  "Mother...there is someone I would like you to meet.  Well, plenty of someones but...one in particular."  He extended his hand.  Lelianna wasted no time in taking it.  "Mother. This is Lelianna.  My wife."

His mother was taken aback.  She looked at her son, then at this human woman standing there holding his hand.  When Lelianna spoke, his mother just smiled widely.  "Ahh...a minstrel from Orlais.  She is beautiful, my son.  I am so happy you found someone."

Vorax blinked as did Lelianna.  "How did you know I was a minstrel?"

"Your voice. It is beautiful and it sings even when you speak.  Not many can do that.  Or if they do, they are bards."  Even not being in Orlais for over 12 years, his mother could still tell a minstrel when she heard one.  And could tell when a bard used their voice to seduce.

"Mother, we have to get you and the others out of here.  You are no longer safe here."

"Oui, but where would we go?  This has been our home for a very long time."  She looked at him.

"Come with me to Warden's Keep.  It is in the mountains to the north."

"Vorax, you know many of us would not make the trip.  It is too dangerous."

"Actaully, madame..." Wynne stepped forward.  "It's not as treacherous as you might think.  It is but a two day trip from here."

Vorax's mother looked at the other elves.  These were only about ten of them from the Alienage.  There was no way to get the others out.  She looked back at Vorax and nodded.  "Very well.  We'll leave at nightfall."

And leave at nightfall they did.  The trip was thankfully uneventful.  But Vorax's mother was safe.  That, at this point, was all that counted.

as a heads up, I'm currently nearing the end of the game. Everything is falling into place for the last two "game" chapters. As I say game chapters, this story will go beyond that. I won't spoil the suprise, but fear not, friends! The story will probably continue on long past the death of the Archdemon! I will be writing/posting them sometime today. So stay tuned for the heart racing action and heart-wretching moments later today!

One month later (Late Autumn)

Warden's Keep:

Vorax was preparing for his trip to the Brecilian Forest.  He was more concerned that things would not go well.  To the Dalish, he would be considered unnatural because of the demon essence in him.  His voice certainly would not garner their help.  He was deciding on the group he should take.  Oghren was not even a consideration.  He would rather bash heads and drink than try to be diplomatic.  Stenn was a warrior.  It would take a deft touch in order to gain the trust of the Dalish.  Wynne was already considered as was Zevran.  He just hoped Zevran would not find a reason to upset Lelianna.  And he prayed that Zevran would not try his "charm" on the Dalish women.  Vorax towards the stairs that led up to the second level of the keep.

As he made his way, many of the elves he saved from the warehouse in Denerim were helping with the upkeep of the Keep.  They were not servants.  But they had told him that they would do whatever they could to help the Grey Wardens.  Even the Casteless mother that Vorax helped rescue from Orzammar was glad to help being that Vorax gave her and her infant son a home away from the poverty of Dust Town.  What truly was suprising to Vorax was how well his mother and Lelianna were getting along.   Even though Lelianna was a bard, his mother had seen in Lelianna was Vorax saw.  And seeing how much Lelianna loved Vorax, made his mother happy.  And this made him happy.

Lelianna was brushing her hair in their room when Vorax walked in.  He wasn't wearing his dark armor.  He for once was wearing something fashionable.  Though, Lelianna did suggest it.  Even being wed to Lelianna he couldn't get fashion right to save his life.  He sat on the bed, Lelianna slipped into bed next to him.  She cuddled up to him as he took her in his arms.  She leaned her head back and kissed Vorax lovingly. They intertwined their fingers together.  Lelianna looked at the ring on her finger and smiled.  Then looked back at Vorax.

"I know that look.  You're worried about the Dalish."  She had gotten to know his looks very well.  When something preoccupied his mind, he would seem distant.

"I am.  I fear if I speak to them, they will not aid us.  I am a creature that cannot be trusted in their eyes.  My love, I hate to ask such things when we are alone, but will you come with me to speak to the Dalish?"  He looked at her, she was so beautiful.

"Of course, husband.  You know I won't hesitate when you ask me to come with you.  But who is going with us?"

"Wynne and Zevran.  I fear the others would not be good choices.  Their ways are not diplomatic."  He ran his had over her cheek as they spoke.

Lelianna wrinkled her nose a bit.  "As long as Zevran keeps his comments to himself.  We don't want the Dalish killing us. "

"I know, love.  I am sorry if he has been bothering you with his comments.  I will speak to him." He lowered his head a bit.

"If it wasn't for the fact that he was so loyal, I would have killed him by now." SHe sighed.  "But he's been such a friend to you.  To us.  Even though he can be brash."  She felt Vorax embrace her tight and kiss her on the neck.  She smiled.  "Can we just...not talk about tomorrow?  Just let tonight be about us."

"Of course."  He just held her.  Wishing the moment would never end.

"Can I ask you something?  When this is all over, what do you hope will happen?  What do you hope for us?"  She looked as his hand as he intertwined their fingers again.

Vorax didn't even need to waste a second thinking about the answer.  He smiled as the thoughts crossed his mind.  "To have a family.  And as many men have probably spoken before, I only wish to make you happy, my precious wife."

Lelianna couldn't hold back her joy at hearing him say that.  She turned and looked at him.  "I never thought I would hear you so readily speak those words.  And it's so pleasing to hear that you want a family.  But first, we have a Blight to stop."

They kissed as they settled in to sleep.

Two days later:

Andraste must have guided the group to the Dalish.  For it did not take long at all to find them.  As they approached the Dalish guarding the camp, the female stepped forward.

"Why have you come here, shemlen?  State your business."  She held her bow in her hand.

Vorax just stood there, his arms crossed, wearing his fully black templar armor.  Lelianna stepped forward.  "The Grey Warden has come to speak with the Dalish about the treaty to face the Blight."

"Grey Warden, huh?  Then perhaps you'll have some proof of what you say?"  Incredulous as ever.  But Vorax silently handed her the treaty.  She studied it a moment, musing over the document.  "Very well, we'll let our Keeper decide if you are worth his time, Warden."  The Dalish escorted the four inside.

In the camp, Vorax quickly took stock of all the Dalish hurt and those in extreme pain.  His eyes flashing a bit but focused on the Keeper as they neared him.  Something didn't feel right about this man.  But he would say nothing.

"Manath shiro, Keeper.  This one is claimed to be a Grey Warden here to speak to you." The elf woman announced.

"Thank you.  I will handle this."  Zatherian looked over the tall Dark Templar.  "I have a feeling you are here about the treaty we signed with your people all those centuries ago."

"He is, Keeper." Lelianna spoke up.

Zatherian looked at Lelianna, wondering why this woman was speaking for him.  "Unfortuantely I do not think we will be able to honor your treaty."

"What happened?" Again, Lelianna responded for Vorax.  Vorax just continued to stand there, silent.  Arms crossed over his chest.

"Why do you speak for him, shemlen?  Is he not more than capable of asking his own questions?"  Zatherian almost seemed indignant about that.

Lelianna lowered her head.  "He is afraid you will judge him as many other have.  Wrongly.  To you, he would seem unnatural."

Zatherian looked sternly at Vorax.  "I would have you speak rather than this woman.  I will decide if you are what she says you are."

That did not go over well with Vorax, but he kept calm.  He stepped forward looking down at Zatherian.  "The Dalish are quick to judge the humans based off of past history.  Though you have good reason, I would ask that you not offend my wife with your cruel words."

Zatherian stepped back, a bit shocked at the voice.  But he now understood why Vorax didn't speak.  "Ahh.  I see.  You possess the essence of a demon."

"That is correct.  The tale is long.  And by the looks of your people, there is little time to tell it."  Vorax narrowed his yellow eyes.

"You are correct, Warden.  Allow me to explain."  Zathrian explained about the Werewolves and Witherfang.  And how his people were "infected" with a curse that would either kill them, or convert them.  After a few moments, Vorax agreed to help.  Lelianna smiled at her husband's willingness.  "Excellent, Warden.  If you have any further questions, please speak to Lanaya or Sarel."

Vorax did so.  He spoke to Lanaya first.  She had many questions but gladly answered his.  Sarel was very interested in how Vorax became who he was and promised to share the tales about the Forest and the Werewolves as long as Vorax was willing to share his tale.  While speaking with Sarel, Vorax noticed a young dalish male troubled and every so often looking toward a female hunter.  When they finished speaking with Sarel, Vorax went over to the young man.

"What troubles you, young one?" Vorax asked.  The young hunter apprentice didn't seem to shocked to hear the Dark Templar's voice.  Being he heard him talk to Sarel.

"Oh, greetings, outsider.  There is...I don't think it would be proper to speak about it to someone who does not know our ways."  Cammen lowered his head.

"I may not know your ways, but perhaps I can aid you.  Please, tell me what troubles you."  Vorax compassion was showing.  He had a feeling he knew what was bothering him, but wanted the boy to tell him.

"It's Gheyna.  A hunter."  Cammen started.

"Who is Gheyna?"  Vorax followed the boy as he leaned against a tree.

"She is my heart's content.  But she has refused her hand to me.  Because she is a hunter and I am merely a hunters apprentice.  SHe said she cannot willingly marry a hunter apprentice."  Cammen seemed to frown as he watched Gheyna.

Vorax followed the boy's gaze.  He saw the Dalish woman and smiled a bit under his helmet.  Vorax lowered his head and chuckled a bit.  Not at the boy's misfortune, but that Cammen was deeply in love with Gheyna.  His chuckle stopped.  He would not allow Cammen to not experience the joy that is love.  Lelianna walked over and took Vorax's hand, squeezing it gently.  She knew what he was thinking.  And this pleased her to know that her husband was willing to help two lovers.

"I fear I will never be able to be with Gheyna.  Please, leave me to my sorrow."  Cammen asked sadly.

"I will speak to Gheyna for you, lad."

Cammen turned and looked at Vorax.  "You would...help me?  Oh ma sirranas, outsider.  I will pray to the goddess of love that you will succeed."

Vorax and Lelianna walked over to Gheyna.  Gheyna saw the dark armored human and stood.  She smiled.  "Greetings, Dark Templar.  It is an honor to have you help us in our time of need.  How may I help you?"

Vorax was suprised to see that this young hunter even knew who he was.  Perhaps she heard it from some humans she tracked?  It didn't matter.  "You are Gheyna, yes?"

Gheyna bowed.  "I am.  How do you...?"

"Cammen told me of your name."

"Cammen?  What did he say?!"  She seemed anxious.  Probably hoping to hear that he became a hunter.

"He has told me that you have refused to give him your hand in union."  Vorax spoke gently.  This was a very sensitive subject.  Something that couldn't be bludgeoned through.  Nothing that can be forced.

"Oh.  Yes.  He is merely a hunter apprentice.  What would happen to our children?  What would our families say?  I couldn't join with him.  Could I?"  Gheyna's last question was one asked in earnest.  It was obvious to both Vorax and Lelianna that she did love Cammen.  But was torn between tradition and her heart.

"Allow me to respond to your question with a question.  Many traditions should never be broken.  As I have many traditions that I share with my mother and my wife.  But at times, traditions become encumbersome when it comes to our hearts.  But there are very few times when our hearts are found to beat in time with someone we have fallen in love with.  It is clear that you do indeed love Cammen.  But will you allow yourself to be determined by tradition in this?"  Vorax did not once raise his voice.  He was calm.

"But...what about his hunt?"  Gheyna seemed slightly nervous.

"Help him through it.  Allow me to say that were it not for the love of my wife, I do not think I would have be able to do some of the things I can do.  Both in and out of battle."

"Oh, Creators.  You are so right!  I've made poor Cammen so miserable.  I will go and speak to him right away!"  Gheyna walked quickly over to Cammen.  Vorax and Lelianna followed suit.

"G...Gheyna?"  Cammen looked in shock to see Gheyna walk over to him.

"Cammen.  I'm so sorry for putting you through all of this.  I want to join with you in marriage."  Gheyna took his hands.

"But...what about my hunt?"  Cammen was shocked.

"It will come.  And I'll help you.  I just want us to be happy.  Us and our children."  She leaned forward and kissed Cammen on the cheek.

Cammen kissed her back and both turned.  "Thank you, Dark Templar.  You have made us both very happy.  If there is anything we can do, please, don't hesitate to ask us."

Lelianna giggled.  "Ah, young love."

"There is one thing.  How do you know who I am?  None have called me by name."

Gheyna stepped forward.  "I saw you near the road and heard some mercenaries talk about you.  I tried to learn as much as I could but never wanted to approach you to ask if what I heard was true.  Your Chantry does not think highly of you.  THough I do not know why."

"People fear what they don't understand." Lelianna knew this better than anyone.

"Thank you again, Dark Templar.  Again, please tell us if there is anything we can do to help you in your journey."  Cammen bowed as did Gheyna.

Vorax and the group walked out of the encampment to help with Witherfang.  As they left, Cammen felt a cold breeze pass through and stopped.  Gheyna turned and looked to her love.  "Cammen?  What's wrong?"

"Something dark is in the air."  He looked back towards where Vorax and the group left.  "I know I shouldn't defy the Keeper.  But....Gheyna...we should follow them.  Not to track down Witherfang.  But...something just feels wrong."

Gheyna was suprised like this.  He wasn't good at hunting, but he seemed to excel at tracking.  SHe didn't entirely notice the cold breeze.  But he did.  "We shouldn't defy the Keeper, you're right.  But...yes...let's follow them at least a little ways in."

The two quietly slipped out of the camp.

Hours later:

It had been a trying time trying to both talk and fight with the werewolves.  Vorax tried so hard to be diplomatic.  But Swiftrunner wasn't listening.  The group had broken though the "magical barrier" to the old ruins.  But again, Swiftrunner was ready to fight.

"Leave this place!  You will not find Witherfang!  YOU WILL NOT FIND THE LADY!"  Swiftrunner howled and snarled.

"Please Swiftrunner!  I do not wish to fight you!  Let us just speak!"  Vorax held his greatsword and shield ready to fight.  But he held back.  He was only defending himself.

"NO MORE TALK!" Swiftrunner attacked.

Vorax cursed quietly.  He didn't want this.  Not at all.  But he and Lelianna killed two werewolves and then faced Swiftrunner.  He backed up slowly.  Snarling, barking.  "Forgive me, Swiftrunner, But I must find Wither....."  Vorax was knocked back hard by a large white wolf.  He lost his weapon and shield but was able to sit up to see Witherfang, barking and snarling, but it soon turned and ran back to the ruins.

Vorax shook his head, dazed a bit by the hit from Witherfang.  Zevran and Lelianna helped him up.  Soon after, they walked into the ruins.  Traversing the ruins was a nightmare.  Undead rose from everywhere. And the spirits from a long forgetten war harrassed the group.  Tevinter spirits?  There was no time to consider what they were.  The group  finally made it to the very lower level of the ruins when they were stopped by three werewolves.

"Hold, outsiders.  Stay your blades.  The Lady wants to speak with you.  Provided you are willing to parley."  The werewolf stated.

"Why choose to speak to us now?  You sent your clan on us before when we wanted to speak the first time!"  Vorax was FURIOUS.

"Swiftrunner though it would be worthless to try.  The Lady does not agree and she does not want to see anymore killed.  Besides, you have proved your strength to us.  We have no wish to anger you further."

Vorax was about to state that it was a little late to not want to anger him further than he already was.  But he felt Zevran's hand on his shoulder.  Vorax calmed down and lowered his weapons.  "Very well.  We agree to your terms.  But betray us, and there will be no salvation.  This I swear."

The werewolves nodded and escorted them to the main chamber.  There, Swiftrunner stood as well as close to twenty of his kind.  As the group stood before Swiftrunner.  He snarled and howled.  A beautiful spirit stepped forward and watched Swiftrunner a second.  Then the Dark Templar.  She knew of this being.  The spirit that came from the Fade whispered his name.  Vorax appeared to be in no mood for postering.  If Swiftrunner attacked, Vorax would not hold back.  She touched Swiftrunner and calmed him.  Then stepped forward.  "I am the Lady of the Forest.  Please forgive Swiftrunner's actions.  He at times gives into his bestial nature."

"As do we all, milady."  Vorax replied.

"True enough, Dark Templar."  She began to explain thing and told Vorax that Zatherian may not have told him everything.  Vorax was curious about this and asked her to explain what she meant.  The Lady of the Forest nodded and did explain just so.  After all was said and done, she asked Vorax one last thing.  "If you bring Zatherian here, I will summon Witherfang.  For that is within my power.  If he does not agree, I will make it so that Witherfang will never be found again."

"A fair request, milady.  I will go and talk to Zathrian."  The group made their way out the unbarred door and to the top of the ruins.  As they did, Zathrian was seen looking over a corpse.  Vorax narrowed his eyes.  He had a feeling Zathrian had something to do with this.  "I had a feeling you would not be far behind."

The two spoke.  Zathrian had become upset that Vorax had not brought Witherfang's heart.  But Vorax was able to get Zathrian to agree to come with him to speak with the spirit.  But told Zathrian that he would protect him.  UNLESS Zathrian attacked first.  Then Vorax would leave Zathrian to his fate.

When Zathrian and the others arrived back in the main chamber, the discourse did not go over well.  Vorax listened carefully to both sides.  But when Swiftrunner threatened to attack, Zathrian tried to contort what he said.  He asked Vorax what he would do.

Vorax's eyes glowed angrily.  "I will not help you do this, Zathrian.  I will not destroy them just because of your petty vengence that should have perished centuries ago."

"Then you leave me no choice.  Die with them!"  Zathrian walked ten paces off and started to cast.  The Lady of the Forest transformed into Witherfang, But Zathrian froze her and the werewolves in place.  Only Vorax and the other's remained unphased.

Vorax roared.  "REVANANT! RISE AND PROTECT THE LADY OF THE FOREST AND THE WEREWOLVES!" And rise from the depths the Revanant did.  It quickly attacked a wild sylvan as Vorax and the other's handled Zathrian.  The fight took a bit.  Zathrian was powerful.  But Vorax was able to use his Templar training to negate a majority of Zathrian's magical assaults.  Vorax lashed out and slammed his shield into Zathrian.  His final shield strike dazing and knocking Zathrian off balance.  The spell that held the werewolves and the Lady broke.

Swiftrunner was furious.  "FINISH HIM OFF!  END HIS LIFE!"

"No!  Lady!  Please stop him!"  Lelianna screamed panicked.

"Swiftrunner, no!  If we do not show him mercy, how can we expect him to have mercy in his heart?"  The Lady again was able to calm Swiftrunner.

Zathrian was tired.  But figured, that it was time to end the curse.  When the ritual was finished.  Zathrian passed away.  And the Lady of the Forest returned to the Fade.  At least her spirit.  The werewolves all returned to their human forms.

"Where...?  Where did she...?"  Swiftrunner...now human...looked at Vorax.

"Her spirit has returned to the Fade.  Perhaps in your dreams you will see her again, my friend."   Vorax bowed his head.

"Then...we should leave here and find the other humans.  I just hope we can start new lives again."  Swiftrunner and the others ran out of the ruins.  As the others left as well.

An hour after:

The group was resting for a bit in East Brecillian Forest.  As they were, Vorax heard something.  A snapping of limbs.  Another wild sylvan?    He turned his head, and out of the thickets, an Ogre Alpha appeared.  It roared at the group as several more Darkspawn appeared.  Vorax drew his weapons and cursed angrily.  A Hurlock Emissary brought his hands to bear as it cast a massive fireball.  The spell hit the group hard. Hard enough to even bring down Vorax.  He coughed violently trying to catch his breath.  Wynne stood up and looked at the fallen and weakened group.  Lelianna looked up at Wynne, barely able to even stand.  Vorax collaped trying to get himself up.  Even Zevran could barely stand.  Wynne called to the spirit within her and healed the group.  The group stood up, ready to fight.  Vorax thanked Wynne as he grabbed his greatsword.  As the group prepared to fight, two arrows hit the Emissary right in the head.  Vorax spun quickly to see Cammen and Gheyna, bows drawn ready to help the group.

Vorax smiled.  "Consider this your first successful hunt, Cammen!"  Vorax raised his hand.  "REVEANANT!  RISE!"  Again, the Revenant erupted from the ground.  The group with the help of the two young lovers quickly brought down the Darkspawn.

All six made it back to the Dalish Encampment.  There, Lanaya told Vorax how she  could feel Zathrian pass away. And knew that he felt it was his time.  She also, as the new Keeper, vowed the Dalish Elves would help the Grey Wardens in their fight against the Blight.  And that all would be ready when the time come.  "Now, as for you two.  You disobeyed Zathrian and went into the forest.  I'm not sure what a fitting punishment would...."

Vorax stopped Lanaya.  "Lanaya, these two saved us from a Darkspawn Emissary that led a large group of Darkspawn and proceeded to aid us in stopping them from nearing the encampment.   They should be congradulated, not condemned for their actions."

Lanaya thought on this.  "Indeed?  Hmm.  Perhaps you're right.  What say you, Cammen and Gheyna?"

"Keeper, the Blight threatens our people.  Seeing how the Grey Warden fights with his allies, I would like to go with them.  To be a voice for our people in this time.  To fight by his side."  Cammen spoke up.

"I would go as well, Keeper."  Gheyna also responded.

Lanaya looked at Vorax.  "What say you, Grey Warden?"

"With your permission, Lanaya, I would be honored to have two such brave Dalish with me and my people."

Lanaya agreed.  "Then so be it.  Creators go with you, Cammen and Gheyna.  May they safely see you home."

Cammen and Gheyna gathered their things and followed the group back to Soldier's Peak.

One month after aquiring the aid of the Dalish:

The time had come.  Allistair and Anora had agreed to marry and Loghaine was defeated at the Landsmeet.  The group moved to Redcliffe.  Riordan had arrived ahead of them and the group had to fight off Darkspawn just to get to the castle.  Once inside, Riordan told them that the Archdemon had shown itself.  And that that main force of the Darkspawn Horde was moving to Denerim.  Vorax closed his eyes.  Lelianna saw his face and took his hand.  She squeezed it tightly.  As if saying: "I'm here for you, my heart."  When Riordan asked if Allistair and Vorax knew about the Archdemon, they both asked how they were going to kill it.  They hadn't been told.  Solemnly, he told both of the Grey Wardens to meet him in his chambers so that they would discuss it.  Lelianna didn't like that.  After, the group decided that they would move out in the morning for a forced march to Denerim.  On the way up to see Riordan, Lelianna stopped Vorax.

"Vorax!  Wait!  Please!  I need to...."  Lelianna looked very very concerned.

He took her in his arms.  "Riordan wishes to speak with Allistair and I alone.  I will join you shortly after.  I know you do not like not knowing what is happening.  But I promise to tell you whatever I learn.  He kissed her on the lips and made his way up to see Riordan.

Riordan greeted to two young Wardens.  "I was not aware that Duncan had not told about killing the Archdemon.  But let me ask you.  Do you know why drinking the blood of the Darkspawn during the Joining is so important?"

"I would make a good guess that it has something to do with the taint of the blood."  Vorax answered.

"You are correct.  A Darkspawn is a soulless being.  If anyone else were to kill the Archdemon, the essense would just go to the Darkspawn and the Archdemon would be born anew.  But a Warden is not souless.  The taint attracts the essence of the Archdemon to the Warden.  The essense of the Archdemon is then destroyed." Riorden was holding something back.

"And the Warden?" Allistair asked.

"The Warden is killed as well."  Riordan watched their expressions.  Allistair went completely somber.

Vorax lowered his head.  "Then I will be the one to kill the Archdemon."

Riordan looked at Vorax and smiled.  "Such bravery is commendable.  But with the demonic essense in you, we don't know what could happen.  No, being I am the eldest of the Wardens here, I will be the one to kill the Archdemon.   The taint in me will not grant me much longer to live.  But should I fail, the task falls to Allistair, then you.  But we have spoken enough.  Go and rest.  There is much to do in the morning.

Allistair left, then Vorax.  He went into the study before going to bed with Lelianna.  In the study, Vorax exhaled heavily.  Tears welled up in his eyes.  The life he wanted to live with Lelianna was going to end.  The woman he loved. It weighed his heart down.  He leaned against the mantle trying to keep himself strong for Lelianna.  A lone tear fell to the floor.  He would not allow Allistair to end his own life.  He was young.  He had a great deal to live for.  Vorax did too. But his friends', his love's life meant far more than his own.  The more he thought, the more his heart sank.  But it had to be done.  As he turned to leave, Morrigan stood in the doorway.  She walked in and shut the door.

"There is a way to save the Grey Wardens.  So that none of you need to perish.  A ritual performed before the final battle, in the dark of the night."  Morrigan smiled.

Vorax looked at his friend.  "Morrigan...where did...?"

"From Flemeth's Grimoire.  She also told me about this ritual.  Of what I was meant to do.  Why do you think she sent me with you?"

Vorax shook his head.  "Morrigan, you speak of dark magics that have not been touched in centuries.  I could not..."

"Before you decline this rare gift, consider of the alternative.  Your beloved would be left to this world alone.  The woman you love so much would be destroyed by your death.  My gift to you would allow you to live.  Talk to Allistair, have him sleep with me.  When the Archdemon dies tomorrow. Its essense will pass from the Grey Warden and to the child that I will bear."  Morrigan seemed very relaxed about all this.

"And will the child become Darkspawn?"  Vorax asked.

"No.  And I care not for the evil the Darkspawn possesses.  But the power of the old god it has."  Morrigan sit on the bed and looked at Vorax.  She knew tomorrow could be the last day he ever breathes.  And knew that his love for Lelianna was so strong it was already killing him to know she would lose him.  "All I ask is that you let me leave after tomorrow, and do not look for me."

Vorax felt he had little choice.  He nodded slowly. "Very well, I will speak with Allistair."  And Vorax did.  He convinced Allistair to sleep with Morrigan, though, it was hard.  But after explaining the ritual and what it would do, Allistair also thought there was little choice.  But both men knew this could be a trap and the ritual could fail.  But it was a chance they would take.

After, Vorax returned to Lelianna while Allistair and Morrigan performed the ritual.  As Vorax walked into the bedroom he and Lelianna were given.  Lelianna could see the look on his face.  He looked haggered.  Whatever Riordan said to him was tearing him apart.  He walked over to Lelianna and took her in his arms.  His voice wavered.  "Lelianna, let us make this night...let us make this night as special as we can.  Let us not..."

Lelianna put a finger to his lips.  A tear falling from her eyes.  She knew, this could be the last night she ever spend with her husband.  And she was not going to waste it on idle words.

The next day, the armies marched towards Denerim.  Allistair walked next to Vorax and said quietly: "If you mention last night to anyone..."  Vorax just laughed.  He wasn't going to say a word regardless.  As they reached Denerim, Anora made a speech.  It roused the group and prepared them for battle.  Soon after, they charged.  The battle at the gate was bloody.  But they were able to beat back the Darkspawn.  Riordan told them that the Archdemon would summon his generals if attacked.  And it was an option to attack them first before the Archdemon.  But they could lose reinforcements if they did that.  Vorax decided to take down the generals first.  He would fight them alone if needed be.

Before they set out, each and everyone one of Vorax's friends faced him to speak.

"It has been a glorious battle.  And now we face the Archdemon.  Whatever happens, it was an honor to travel and fight at your side, Dark Templar."  Stenn stood tall.

"As it has been an honor to fight at your side, Stenn of the Berrisad.  May the Arishok grant you long life, my friend."  Vorax smiled.

"Heh, so, time to kick the ass of that nug-tailed Archdemon huh?  Well, let's show them our hearts, and then show them theirs.  As one of the soddin dusters who might die, I salute you, Vor."  Oghren said.

"Oghren, you are one hell of a fighter.  And have been one hell of a friend.  After this is over, I will owe you a pint of ale."

"I'm soddin' holdin' you to that."

Maskron walked over and whimpered.

"Hey.  You behave yourself, alright.  I will be back."

Maskron barked.

"So, it goes to fight the Archdemon.  If it finds itself eaten, irony will be sure to follow.  And if the Archdemon poops on me, I do not think I will be able to take it.  It...you..have been a good friend.  I hope to see you after the battle."  Shale said.

"The pleasure has been mine, Shale."  Vorax bowed.

Morrigan walked over.  "So this is where we part ways.  I...I thank you.  I thank you for being a true friend when expect to have none did I.  Please, remember what I said."

"I will respect your wishes, Morrigan.  If someday you wish to seek me out.  Well, you know how to locate me."  Vorax said and gave her a hug.

Zevran was next.  "So, we go to kill Darkspawn, no?  I would have it no other way.  Let us show them why none can stand against us, my dear friend."

"And show them we will."  Vorax shook his dearest friend's hand.

Wynne stepped up.  "It has been a long road, Vorax.  It has been my honor to fight by your side.  To be your guidence."

"Wynne, you consuled me during the hardest moments of our journey.  I could not have asked for a better teacher and council.  Thank you."  Vorax bowed deeply to the wise mage.

Allistair followed.  "This is it.  I just hope Riordan knows what he's doing.  But...if something should...."

"The Archdemon will fall either way, my friend and brother."  Vorax was trying to  maintain a firm smile.

Finally....Lelianna stepped forward and took her love's hands.  "Today we'll forge our own legend."

"Are you afraid, my wife?"

"No.  We will fight side by side.  I will follow you to the depths of hell.  As the Maker and Andraste would wish it.  I will never leave your side."

"I would want you no where else.  And after this, we will find a home to raise our children."  Vorax kissed Lelianna passionately.

After the group seperated.  Allistair, Zevran, and Lelianna went with Vorax.  The rest stayed behind to defend the gates.  Vorax led the group to the gates leading the center of Denerim.  The soldiers stood on either side as the group passed.  Cheering for the heroes that were going to face the Archdemon.  'This is it' Vorax thought.  It was now or never.

The fight throughout Denerim was long and arduous.  But Vorax and the others fought hard.  When they got to the Palace district, Vorax looked up as he saw Riordan leap onto the Archdemon.  But what Vorax witnessed turned his blood to ice.  Riordan lost his grip on the Archdemon.  His blade slicing the wing of the beast apart.  But the elder Grey Warden fell to his death.  Allistair stood next to Vorax.  Vorax lowered his head.   This would be it.  He never told Lelianna what Riordan told them or about the ritual.  Vorax looked at Allistair.  They knew what had to be done.  They moved to Fort Drakon.

The group fought their way to the top.  Lelianna smiled.  Her husband was still with her.  She was confindent that if he had not been killed now, he would live to see his children.  For them to raise their family.  The Archdemon was massive.  Vorax called for the Circle mages.  Irving ran through the door as well as Wynne.  The gates must have been secure for her to come with them.  The mages, Lelianna and Zevran fought the Darkspawn the Archdemon called to its side.  Allistair and  Vorax fought the Archdemon alone.  With a strong attack, Allistair weakened the Archdemon, now was the time to make the final strike.  Allistair moved to  make the strike when Vorax stopped him.

"Allistair...no.  I will make the killing blow. You have a kingdom to rule."  Vorax watched the Archdemon, it was struggling to stand.  He looked at Allistair.

"And you have a wife and family to care for.  I told you it was a mistake to choose me to be king.  Anora and I will kill each other."  He gave a half hearted smile.

"Allistair...please.  I have made my choice.  Tell Lelianna....that I will always love her.  And to dream of me in the Fade.  If this ritual fails...."

"I will.  Be safe...brother."  Allistair hugged Vorax.  ANd Vorax hugged him.

Lelianna saw the two hugging and ran over to Allistair as she saw Vorax charge towards the Archdemon.  "Allistair...what's going on?!  What did you two talk about?!"

Allistair was hesitant for but a second but told Lelianna what Riordan said.  "Well...you see, only a Grey Warden can kill the Archdemon.  And well, we drink Darkspawn blood...and that taint helps kill the Archdemon.  It draws the essence to the Warden."

"And the Warden?!" Lelianna grabbed Allistair.

"Well...it will kill th....." Allistair fell backwards as Lelianna pushed him out of the way and ran towards Vorax.

Vorax grabbed his greatsword and slid under the Archdemon, slicing it open underneath.  He then leaped onto the neck of the beast and spun the blade in his hand, edge down.  It blazed a demonic blue color.

Lelianna screamed, tears streaming down her cheeks. " VORAX NO!!!! STOP!!! PLEASE I BEG YOU!!!!"  Her hand was reached out, but she was too far away and it was too late.

Vorax emitted a blood curling, demonic warcry.  He drove the blade into the Archdemon's head.  The area around him glowed violently.

Zevran grabbed Lelianna to stop her.  "LELIANNA!  NO!  IT'S TOO LATE!"

"LET ME GO!  I HAVE TO.....!!!!"  But her voice was cut off.

Vorax roared violently.  Whether in pain or otherwise.  The Archdemon exploded.  Zevran, Lelianna and Allistair were blown backwards.  The explosion could be seen from below.  The Darkspawn retreating fully.  When the dust settled.  Lelianna coughed and stood up.  Allistair groaned but got to his feet as did Zevran.  Lelianna looked towards where the Archdemon was.  It was a bloodied mess.  But she saw no sign of Vorax.  Where the head of the Archdemon was, she saw the broken blade of Vorax.  It was snapped in half.  She ran over and pulled stone and chitin plate away.  Eventually...she found Vorax.  He was bloody.

"VORAX!  NO!" She listened for a heartbeat, and heard none.  She shook her still husband. "Please, Maker please no!  Wake up!  PLEASE!  YOU CAN'T LEAVE ME HERE ALONE!  GODS PLEASE!" Tears streamed down her cheeks.

Allistair picked Lelianna up and held her as she cried so hard.  Her husband dead.  Allistair cursed angrily. "Damn you, Morrigan!  I swear I will find you and kill you myself!"  He himself started to sob silently.  Zevran....had no words.  He lowered his head.  The only one who ever even cared to take him in and protect him from the Crows.

Wynne heard Lelianna and ran over.  She saw Vorax and covered her mouth in a quiet gasp.  Lelianna put her arms around Wynne.   Wynne held her tight.  Cradling her as a mother or grandmother would.  "Maker see you to his arms, Vorax." Wynne said quietly.

Suddenly, Vorax groaned and coughed violently.  He stirred a bit.  Lelianna turned from Wynne and looked at Vorax.  He was trying to roll on his side but coughed up blood.  Apparently a little of his own and the Archdemon's.  Lelianna ran over and fell to her knees, seeing to him.  "V...Vorax?!"

He again coughed.  "Who...*cough*...the hell....didn't tell me....the Archdemon had blood? Andraste's Blood....I am so sore....."

Lelianna pulled Vorax close.  He grunted in pain and tried to hold his wife, but hurt too much to do so.  Lelianna was again crying.  But this time, instead of sorrow, was crying in joy.

Shale got to the roof and saw the others trying to help Vorax up.   She walked over grabbed Vorax, lifting him into her arms.  "If It tells anyone that I did this, I will fervently deny it and squish It."

Vorax tried to laugh, but grunted in pain.  "It is...*grunt*...a deal."

It took a few days of rest before Vorax was able to move without pain.  Lelianna saw to his needs as did his cousin, Erlina.  The day of Allistair's coronation, Vorax was going to wear his Dark Templar armor.  It was only proper.  But the sash he chose...Lelianna just rolled her eyes.

"Oh Maker, you aren't going to wear THAT, are you?"

Even to this day, Vorax had no fashion sense.  Lelianna almost gave up on him a few times.  "What is wrong with it, love?"

She walked over and chose the darker lavender one that offset the color of his armor.  She couldn't be angry at him.  But this time, he didn't wear his helmet.  He kept it under his arm.

At the coronation, Lelianna stood next to Vorax.  The others stood behind them.  Proud victors over the Blight.  Allistair and Anora motioned for Vorax to stand next to them.  He looked at Lelianna who smiled and nodded.  Vorax stood next to Allistair and Anora.

"Vorax, we honor you and the others who fought and won against the Archdemon. For your service to Fereldan, we wish to offer you something for all your deeds.  Name it, and it will be done."  Allistair said.

Vorax thought a moment.  He looked up at Lelianna.  At the others and everyone gathered.  He hated being put on the spot.  But what could he want?  He was happily married.  His mother was safe at Warden's Keep.  He didn't want gold or riches.  It wasn't his way.  Ever.  The Wardens had cleared their name already.  After a few moments of contemplation, he turned to Allistair and Anora.  "You majesties, there is nothing I wish."

Allistair blinked.  "Nothing?" He leaned closer.  "Are you sure?  I mean, you do deserve something for all the hell we went through."  His voice was low.

Vorax smiled.  "I am sure, brother.  There is nothing I require."

Allistair nodded but smiled.  "I will give you one thing all the same, Vorax.  From this day forward, the name of the Dark Templar will no longer be reviled by the Chantry.  You have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that you are not what they made you out to be all those years ago.  When the name Dark Templar is spoken, it will be remembered as the hero of Fereldan."

There were a few gasps from the crowd.  But then they all started cheering.

Allistair and Anora granted Vorax leave to talk with his friends but reminded him that the others outside would want to see their "hero".

Vorax couldn't belive how long it took to get from one person to another.  People wanting to talk with him and shake his hand.  Lelianna didn't mind.  She wasn't upset.  She smiled at the man she married.  He was still with her.  Her heart soared and she would wait forever for him to return to her.  Vorax finally got to speak to Zevran.

"So, we defeated a Blight and have everything we could ever wanted.  I am thinking, that it might not be bad to go into business for myself."  Zevran said.

"Are you sure, Zevran?  Lelianna and I do plan to travel a bit.  And I would not mind at all if you joined us.  You have been nothing short of a great friend and a superb protector to both myself and Lelianna.  Also, when Lelianna and I return from our travels, Arl Eamon and Allistair asked that I be an advisor to both of them.  But we would have a home in Redcliffe.  We could use someone with your abilities to stay with us.  I ask as a friend, not as one who will help them."  Vorax put his hand on Zevran's shoulder.

"Well now, I will admit, travelling with you is never boring.  There is always something to kill along the way.  Besides, who will keep you two safe at night when you're knocking the boots, eh?"  Zevran smiled maliciously.

Vorax couldn't help but laugh at his friend's banter.  "Well said, Zevran."

"Besides, we wouldn't want anyone getting a clear shot at you would we?  At least not unless they paid me a good amount of coin."  Again, Zevran just smiled.

"Agreed." Vorax replied smiling as well.

Vorax also spoke to Cammen and Gheyna who fought in the battle of Denerim. He asked them if they would stay with him when he returned to Redcliffe.  Both smiled and agreed.  They joked that he would be lost without the Dalish around to help.

After an hour of meeting with people and meeting the crowd outside, Vorax walked back in.  Lelianna was still there and talking with Eamon.  Many of the people had left for the dinner Anora and Allistair had prepared.  Vorax walked over to Lelianna and Eamon bowed and left.

"So, the hero takes his bow and exits stage right."  Lelianna spoke as if ending a play.

"Yes, but does the hero get the girl?"

She giggled.  "Oh but of course.  In Orlais, its common for plays to be shown in honor of the hero.  Of course, there are...some performances that can only be done in private."

"Mmm.  And I am guessing that you have such a performance in mind?  And if so, where would the venue be?"  He teased her braid.

"Oh I know of a very special and private room, just down the hall.  Perfect ambience for the performance."  Lelianna said tugging at his armor.

"Then, milady, please show me to the venue.  I would be honored to expierence such a performance."

Lelianna took Vorax's hand and led her husband to their chambers.  Lelianna was right, they forged their own legend.  But this tale is far from over.  A darkness awaits on the horizon.  The Dark Templar will be called upon again.......

About nine months after the Blight had ended:

Redcliffe Castle:

When Lelianna had learned that she was with child, her face beamed with joy.  Vorax himself could barely contain his own enthusiasmn at becoming a father.  And when Lelianna was heavy with child, Teagan made it a point to not burden her or Vorax with troubles from Denerim.  Lelianna hated being fussed over.  But being her child was nearly due, she found it hard to not need the help.  There were times during the pregnancy that Lelianna cursed how she looked.  But Vorax never failed to remind her of how beautiful she looked.  And carrying their child only made her all the more beautiful.  Both Vorax and Lelianna had finished dinner and were walking back to their chambers for the night when Lelianna stopped dead in her tracks and lurched forward only slightly.  Vorax caught her, concern growing on his face.

"My love...what is wrong?"

Lelianna closed her eyes tight, the pain of labor hitting her like an Ogre's punch to the gut.  "M..my water...it...."   She cried out in pain.  "The...baby is coming!"

Vorax gently lifted Lelianna into his arms and rushed her to their chambers.  Laying her gently on the bed and telling the elven servant of Teagan's to go and get the midwife immediately.  Not a few minutes later, the midwife rushed in.  Vorax was trying hard to keep Lelianna relaxed, not that it was working.  The midwife thanked Vorax for doing what he could but that it was now time for her to do what she was trained to do.  She also asked Vorax to wait outside of the chambers.  THAT did not settle well with Vorax at all.  He didn't want to leave his beloved wife and soon to be born child.

"I will not leave her!" Vorax roared angrily.

"Milord, I know how much you are concerned for your beloved, but this will be much easier on her and the child.  Please, for them.  This is all I ask of you."  The midwife watched Vorax's expression.  THe people of the Redcliffe knew that when Vorax made his decision, he wasn't going to change it.  But this was something he never experienced before.

Lelianna, even in labor took her love's hand and squeezed it as if saying: "It will be alright, my love.  We will be alright."

Vorax closed his eyes and kissed Lelianna on the lips.  "Very well.  I will do as you say."  He walked out of the chambers.  Four servants ran into the chambers and shut the door.  Oghren walked over to Vorax after hearing the news.

"If you don't stop pacing, I swear to the soddin' ancestors you're gonna wear a soddin' hole in the stone."  Brash as ever.  But Vorax came to enjoy that part of Oghren.  His dwarven companion, and now his "general" of his elite guard force, had decided to stay with him.  Figured that the Warden would need a Dwarf to help keep people in line.  He and Felsi had also married and had a son.  So Oghren knew what it was like to be a father.

"I cannot stand being out here when my wife is in there in pain."  Vorax spun quickly when he heard Lelianna cry out loudly in pain.  He was ready to break through the door to get to his wife.

Oghren grabbed Vorax's arm, holding him back.  "I know what you're thinkin'.  But they need to help her.  Trust me I know what you're thinkin'.  I was ready to beat the soddin' nug-lickers when Felsi was givin' birth.  It took alot of ales after things settled down to calm my own nerves."

Vorax quizzically looked at Oghren.  "I am unsure how that is different from other times, my old friend."

"It was Orzammar ale."  Oghren grinned slyly.

"Ahh...then that does explain it."  Vorax stopped talking a minute and turned his head.  Everything was dead quiet.  He didn't hear Lelianna...or the baby.  His eyes flashed angrily and he drew his reforged blade.  Again, Oghren held him back.  But even Oghren was getting worried that something happened during the birth.  Soon after a child was heard crying.  That wasn't enough for Vorax.  He needed to hear his heart as well.  The door to their chambers opened and two servants walked out with bloodied sheets, then two more with other things.  Then the midwife came out.

She cleaned off her hands and looked at Vorax.  She studied him a moment.  Knowing how much he loved his wife, every second away killed him.  She smiled.  "Mother and child are perfectly fine.  If you want, you may go in now."

One could almost hear the collective sigh of Oghren and Vorax.  Oghren nodded to Vorax who went in and saw Lelianna holding their newborn child.  She looked haggard and exhausted.  But Andraste bless her, she had a glow about her holding their child.  Vorax sat on the bed next to her.  "Say hello to your baby daughter, husband."  She smiled as she looked at Vorax.

All he could do was smile.  He leaned over and kissed Lelianna deeply.  "Thank you, my love.  Andraste's Mercy, thank you."  He then leaned down and kissed his daughter on the forhead ever so gently.  "What name shall we bless her with?"

Lelianna thought a minute.  "Didn't you tell me about a Desire demon...that watched over me one night in the Fade when you were away?  That she spoke to you and out of respect for sparing her life she would watch over myself and our child in the Fade?"

"Ahh yes, I recall that.  Selene."

"I like that name.  Selene.  Its a beautiful name."  Lelianna watched as their daughter slept in her arms.

Vorax agreed.  "Very well, then Selene it is."

Another elf servant walked in and bowed.  "Milord, milady, the child's basonette has been prepared.  You really should rest, milady."

Lelianna was growing so tired.  She gently gave Selene to Vorax.  As he held her, the world seemed to stop.  Such a fragile and precious gift from the Maker and Andraste.  Lelianna saw the look in his eyes and it made her smile.  He would be a great father to their daughter.  Vorax gave the child to the elf who took her to where they prepared the basonette.  After about ten minutes, two servants brought the basonette in and placed it next to their bed.  The baby still asleep.  Lelianna smiled, very exhausted and she herself letting sleep take over.  Tonight he would watch over his family.  Tonight he would remain vigilant in the Fade.

A few days later, Allistair and Anora, along with Eamon and Isolde visited the new family.  Selene had a cross between the shimmer in her father's eyes, and the color of her mother's eyes.  The shimmer gave the eyes a light blue color.  Thankfully, Selene did not possess the essence of her father's demon.  There was concern that a part of the essence might be with the child.  But thankfully, no such thing happened.   Isolde held Selene for a bit.  The baby seemed to lauch and reach for Isolde's necklace.

"She is so beautiful.  Both of you must be so proud.  I will never forget the look on Eamon's face when Connor was born."  Isolde was enjoying holding the new child.

"Thank you, Isolde.  I just hope Selene will be happy."  Lelianna said as Vorax held his wife.

"Selene?  Not a common Fereldan name.  Orlaisian maybe?"  Allistair asked.

"The name is not Orlesian.  It is the name of a Desire demon that protected Lelianna in the Fade when you and I were recruiting the two new Wardens, Allistair."  Vorax knew that they wouldn't entirely understand the circumstances.

"I don't understand.  Why would a demon, no offence Vorax, care to protect Lelianna?"  Anora never fully understood the corelation between Vorax and the Fade.

"Because I spared her life.  We have an agreement.  She does not attempt to possess my wife and child and I will not kill her."

Anora nodded.  "Seems like a fair agreement."

When Allistair held Selene, he looked at the newborn.  He after a second looked up at Vorax with that knowing look of: 'Did you know this child has hidden magical abilities?'  Vorax didn't have to say a word.  He already knew.  It was trying to explain it to Lelianna that was going to be hard.  Lelianna was as pious as Isolde.  But didn't take the magic ability to the extreme as Isolde did.

"So, I am curious."  Isolde shifted in her seat.  "Being you have an elven mother, Vorax, is there a chance Selene could have been born an elf?"

"The possiblity was always there.  I cannot deny my heritage.  There will always be a chance with our children.  It is their children that may be more human than elf."

"And this doesn't bother you, Lelianna?" Anora asked.

"No, not at all.  As long as our children are healthy, that is all I care about.  What they may be is either their choice or the choice of the Maker and Andraste."  Lelianna fixed her gown.

"That's all we can ever ask of our children." Eamon said.  The group agreed.

But Vorax knew that Selene would be much more.  He just hoped when the time came, Lelianna would understand.

Thanks, King :D

Unfortunately I like writing for fun. I would have a problem trying to deal with Bioware for royalties and all that. Just better and more fun for me to do it here and share it among the community.

This is well done misles75, very well done.

I normally don't care for recounting the game in fan fic but you have added the right amount of personal touches. I feel an affinity with Vorax as Drax also has fallen under Lel's charms.

I am looking forward to the rest of the tale.

Many years later:

No one had thought two people could have loved each other for so long and so much as Vorax and Lelianna had.  Two completely different people that found love for each other in the darkest time of Fereldan.  And Selene had not become their only daughter.  Lelianna gave birth to their second daughter, Marissa.  Marissa was born an elf because of Vorax's heritage.  But neither of them cared.  Both their children were beautiful.  And as they grew, both became strong in their own right.  Marissa became a hunter who, thanks to Gheyna and Cammen, trained and joined one of the Dalish camps.  To learn the ways of the Dalish, to share the knowledge of her father with them.  And Lanaya gladly welcomed Vorax and Lelianna to the encampments, always keeping them appraised of when they moved.

But there was a point that when both girls were growing up, Selene showed very strong signs of magic.  This did not bother Lelianna, but what did bother her was that First Enchanter Petra suggested that Selene become part of the Circle of Magi, to be taken from her family.  Greigore was more concerned that Selene would turn into her father.  It was these issues that Lelianna argued greatly with Vorax on.  And it bothered her a great deal.  Vorax understood Lelianna's anger and frustration towards Petra and Griegore.  But he also knew Selene would have to learn control of her magic.  Vorax brought Lelianna with him to the Circle Tower on Lake Calenhad.  There all four sat down and discussed a compromise.

"Griegore, I understand your concern of what could happen to our daughter, Selene.  But Lelianna and I both agree that she fully understands the risk because of what happened to me as a child.  And Petra, I would not ask you to make an exception but I do not and will not allow our daughter to be taken from us forever."  Vorax held Lelianna's hand.  Even after all these years, Lelianna still looked beautiful.

"So you would ask that we just ignore everything that's ever happened?  Do you not remember what Uldred did?  Why should we take the risk with Selene?  Just because you ask?"  Griegore seemed to be getting a bit crotchity in his old age.

"Because if our daughter ever did become an abomination, I would personally end her life.  And Lelianna and I have spoken on this."

Petra folded her hand and thought about this.  Vorax had proved himself.  Time and time again to the Circle.  And he did protect Wynne.  Wynne passed away several years ago when the spirit of faith had finally become so weakened it could no longer sustain both itself and Wynne.  Vorax and Lelianna were hit the hardest when Wynne passed away.  They had been at her side in her final moments, both of the children with them.  "Wynne would call us children for arguing like this.  Griegore, you know Vorax is right.  And I see no reason why Selene couldn't be a mage of the Circle and still be able to see and be with her family.  Some things need to change. About how we handle young mages.  And I know not all parents are as loving as Lord and Lady Lemaras.  But still, there are families that were torn apart because we took their children, their life from them.  Vorax, Lelianna, we will gladly accept your terms."

Griegore grumbled a bit but also agreed to the terms.

Selene had just turned nineteen.  And through the past eight years of study with the Circle, she became Petra's star pupil.  Selene's potential hadn't been seen in years.  And it was time for her to go through the Harrowing.  Lelianna and Vorax had come to see their oldest go through one of the hardest tests she had ever gone through.  Marissa also had been given leave by Keeper Lanaya to be with her family for this greatest of achievements.  Selene remembered back to when Marissa had become a full fledged hunter of the Dalish.  It was a proud day for the family.  Both girls had red to dark red hair.  Long and beautiful.  Only Selene had her father's eyes.  Marissa was thankfully spared her father's more redeeming features.  Many said that Marissa looked more like Lelianna but at times had her father's temper.  But she was here for her big sister.

"Magic is to be used to help man, not rule over him.  These are the words spoken by Andraste as she brought down the Tevinter Imperium."  Griegore stated.

"You know a great deal about the Fade already from your father.  The Fade is a world of dreams.  It's your own will that makes it real.  You must face a demon.  And defeat it.  If you can't, then your own father will be forced to strike you down to prevent the demon from entering our world.  This is the Harrowing.  Are you prepared, Selene?"  Petra asked.

"I am, First Enchanter."  Selene stood strong.  Her father surived the Fade, and she would too.

Petra motioned for Selene to touch the lyrium.  Vorax felt tired.  Being near the lyrium was straining him.  Lelianna noticed this as did Marissa.  They knew being this close, he would have to enter the Fade.  Selene soon entered the Fade and Vorax released his spirit.  If anything, he would watch over his child during the Harrowing.  But he wouldn't interfere.

In the Fade:

Vorax stood on the high ledges, out of Selene's view.  But there was a barrier also preventing him from jumping down to her should something go very wrong.  The Desire Demon, Selene, who his daughter was named after, joined Vorax.

"Ahhh...her Harrowing I take it?"   She placed her hand on Vorax's shoulder.

"Yes.  And should something go wrong I cannot help her."

"You can't.  Not here.  This part of the Fade is reserved for the mages.  So to speak.  But I can.  I can and will protect her."

Vorax nodded.  "Thank you, Selene."

She smiled.  "I was honored that you named your daughter after me.  I made it a point after to never betray you.  And when I felt her become stronger in magic, I knew I just had to protect her while she slept."

"Again, I thank you, Selene."  Vorax leaned against a rock spine.  He watched as Selene spoke with Valor.  Valor told Selene about how he helped her father and how he taught him to be valorous.  Selene was a bit more....forward with her words.  When Valor challenged her to a duel, she used her strength of will to prove her own valor.  This made Vorax grin widely.  Definately his daughter.  He watched as she spoke to a Sloth demon.  Desire Selene saw Vorax's reaction and stood ready to step in if she needed to.  Vorax's daughter outwitted the Sloth demon and with "Mouse's" help, moved towards the final confrontation.  Vorax narrowed his eyes at Mouse.  "Something is wrong.  Very wrong."

Desire Selene watched.  "Yes...I can feel it too."

Both observed as Selene fought the Greater Rage demon.  But after....

"That was too easy.  Much too easy." Selene said skeptically.

"What do you mean?  You have so much potential.  You'll become First Enchanter in no time.  And maybe there is hope for someone as insignificant as me."  Mouse stated.

Selene thought a moment, pondering Mouse's words.  Something was wrong with them.  He almost sounded....proud.  "I'm...sure I can speak to the Templars."

"There's another way...you just have to want to let me in."  Mouse was luring her.

"Let you.....?"  Her eyes narrowed.

Vorax roared from above.  But she wouldn't be able to hear him.  "SELENE!  IT IS  A PRIDE DEMON!  Maker's Blood he is going to kill her!"

Mouse looked up and grinned evilly.  "She is mine, Vorax!"  Mouse raised his hand and forced Vorax out of the Fade.

Desire Selene watched in horror as the Pride demon was about to have his meal.

Vorax woke up in a sharp startle. "NO!" He growled violently.  "Selene is the only one who can help her now."

Lelianna looked at her husband with great worry.  Marissa shot a look at the "sleeping" body of her sister.

Selene armed her staff.  "Andraste's Mercy...it's happening all over again...."

The Pride demon transformed and raised its claws.  "Your father killed my brother!  And now I will kill you and take over your body!"

As the demon swung his claws down, it destroyed her staff and knocked her back.  It raised its hand for another attack and as it swung down again, Desire Selene appeared in front of Selene.  The blow knocking the desire demon back, and mortally wounding her.

Selene watched in horror at what was going on, she couldn't stop this demon, he was far too powerful.  She ran over to the desire demon that watched over her for years.  "Aunt Selene....please...."

"My sweet "niece"...I..." Desire Selene coughed violently.  "I...am sorry.  Take.....take my....essence....it is...the only.....way...to stop......"  The desire demon's head fell to the side, her fire dimming quickly.

Tears fell down Selene's cheeks.  She touched the demon's heart.  It was the Maker and Andraste's will.  That one would follow in her father's footsteps.  Selene closed her eyes, and "absorbed" the desire demon's essence into her.  Selene screamed in pain as her form shifted five or six times until she looked like the Desire demon.  She looked up at the Pride Demon.  "You will NOT win this day, Pride.  Just as my father defeated your brother, so will I defeat you!"  Selene sounded just like Vorax did.  The demon's voice in sync with her own.  Words and voice echoing.

Minutes later:

Selene slowly stirred.  She blinked slowly and rose.  Vorax, Lelianna and Marissa ran over.

"Selene?  Maker please tell me you are alright!"  Lelianna was paniced.

Selene lowered her eyes, looking down.  She heard her father say: 'She's dead.  Selene...the Desire Demon is dead.  I can feel her essence.'  Selene nodded.  She opened her mouth and spoke.  "You're right, father.  She is.  She protected me from pride, sacrificing her life.  She wanted me to...it was the only way."

Lelianna closed her eyes and held Selene tight.  She whispered a prayer to the Desire demon that saved her daughter.

Marissa just hugged her big sister.  Regardless of what happened, her sister was still alive.

Vorax knelt down.  "My daughter, I must ask, what....?"

Selene stood up and with a little concentration, transformed into a Desire Demon.  "I know all that "aunt" Selene knew."

Petra closed her eyes.  Why?  Why did it have to happen to this girl?

"She's an abomination!  Vorax, fulfill your promise and kill her!"  Griegore was really angry.

"She is no abomination, Griegore!  She has not become lost to pride and lust for power!  She is able to transform at will and still maintains her humanity!"  Vorax stood defiant.  This is why he hated alot of Templars.  They had one method of thinking and not see the greater picture.

"Griegore.  That's enough." Petra said.  "Selene passed her Harrowing.  If not a bit "scarred".  No offense."

"None taken, First Enchanter."

Petra granted Selene the right of becoming a full fledged mage in the Circle and was given leave to go with her parents.  In so long as she kept in contact with the Circle.  Selene agreed.  But the true test of her abilities was soon to come.

Oh, I just thought of something as a side note. I might work on a Mass Effect 2 Story. In essence it would be happening during/after the Collector Base goes boom. Again, same disclaimer as before, it would based off a character I make. And it wouldn't reflect the path taken during the game. These characters are of my own design/choices/love interests/paths.

Only thing is being that the ME boards don't have a place for fan fic, I don't know where to write the story.   <_<
