When I attempt to travel to Caridin's Cross via the world map (or rather the Deep Roads map), the game just continues to try to load for ages and then my PC bluescreens. My specs are

Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 2ghz
4GB RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470

I've been able to play the game just fine up until now.

you could try loading an old save to see if you get the same results and if you start getting long load times save and exit game wait a couple of minutes and restart game

I tried it, and exactly the same happens every time I try to go to Caridin's Cross. I don't get long load times for anything else, just Caridin's Cross.

Had the same problem - none of the suggested tips did anything; EA Support could't offer any help (that helped). What worked for me was the following (Only works when playing the game via Steam):
Go to Steam Games Library > Right click on game > choose Properties > choose Local Files > choose Verify Integrity of Game Cache > let it do its thing... the verification takes quite long but in the end 4 files were detected as corrupt and re-downloaded from the server. This did the trick
