Okay, so I am trying to pursue Ashley's romance. I have only spoken
with Liara once, and that was in a friendly manner, not an "I want you
in bed" way. However, when I spoke with Ashley for the second time
(when her sister asks about serving with Shepard, and Ashley tells him
about her family) she asked why I wasn't talking with Liara because we
have a "thing".

So apparently the game thinks I am into Liara because I had one conversation with her. How do I get Ashley as my LI?

Okay, but I didn't do or say anything to Liara to indicate that I was interested in her, I was just being polite.



Is this going to force a confrontation between the two...or will Ashley just become my LI because I have talked with her twice and Liara only once?

If it is anything like romancing Kaiden, Liara should ask you about Ashley which you say 'she is special to me'. Confretations between the two probaly wont happen....

If you romance both Ashley and Liara you will force a show down... take your pick then. However don't get smart and say both, because you will just end up with Liara.

A threesome would of been more fun

Okay, well I only talked with Liara once and that was just a "tell me about Benezia" chat. Even still, Ashley got jealous.



Twice she said something like "I figured you would be talking with Liara" and I had to pick the renegade option of "my personal life is none of your business" so she would say "oh, that' s fine but I thought we had something here" so I could say "We do, and I want it to continue. I like you not Liara" or something like that.



I was able to finish Ashley's romance without a problem from that point on, no confrontation.



Okay, now I have a slightly different question. If I reloaded my save after Feros and Noveria where I only talked to Liara once (about Benezia) and Ashley once (about aliens on the ship) can I end the game with NO romances?

You should be able to end the game with no romances if you pick the 'romance ender' dialogues in the conversations. With Ash - choosing the 'and that was a problem' line when she says 'oh, that's fine but I thought we had something here' should end her romance.



Ending Liara's romance simply means telling her you just want to be friends when she brings up the 'connection' between the two of you. Make sure you also say that you and ash are just friends as well during that conversation.



I'm not sure whether you can end the game with no romances if you choose to ignore both characters, but I'm assuming if you never talk to them past the first conversation, the romance wouldn't simply 'turn on' because you haven't been chatting to them.

Another, more cruel, way of ensuring you go to ME2 with no romances is to turn down Liara (picking Ashley over her during the confrontation if you have to), then leaving Ashley on Virmire. Harsh, but 100% effective.
