Creating a sticky for this topic, since a number of people are encountering this issue, and are not finding the solution.  Full commentary is at http://social.biowar...8/index/111603.

To save the trouble of reading through that thread, here is the solution.

If your Installer seems to be stuck at the line Execute:regsvr32.exe for an extended period of time, it is likely that regsvr32.exe has hung.  If you encounter this problem on installing, open the task manager and kill regsvr32.exe. (not the toolset installer). The installer should continue on installing after that's done. This could mean that engine.dll won't be registered, which is needed in order for the lightmapper to work. however, so you may need to do that manually.

To manually register the dll, go to "run" in your start menu and type in the following command:

regsvr32 "C:\\\\\\\\Program Files\\\\\\\\Dragon Age\\\\\\\\tools\\\\\\\\Engine.dll"

(substitute the actual path to Engine.dll if it it's different from that, make sure it is contained in quotes). It should pop up a "success!" message. If it fails, it should hopefully pop up an error message that will tell us how to fix it once and for all. It should be safe to re-try this command over and over, registering the dll more than once is harmless.

OH! I have some info that may be of use. This was hanging for me yesterday. I was also having trouble with some Windows Live programs, The problem with the windows live programs involves an Nforce network driver and management software(all I really know is you could choose first packet options). This was causing Windows Live services from working properly, and would cause them to crash. I uninstalled that as well as the Asus AI suite. This was all on windows XP 32 bit SP3. Also a fresh install of windows. It would hang during the installation as well as if I tried it manually. Though the toolset ran fine either way. I just now tried to do it manually and it worked fine. I would assume it wouldn't hang on installation either, I will attempt to find out though.  Edit:  Yes the Installer does not hang either.

Thank you very much.

regsvr32 "C:\\\\\\\\Program Files (x86)\\\\\\\\Dragon Age\\\\\\\\tools\\\\\\\\Engine.dll"

for 64 bit OSs

Using the /run method regsvr32 is still hanging with no error report. Using no processor time with 14k ram footprint. I'll have to check into the methods RanosB mentioned and see if I have similar success.

Thank you, because killing the installer and re-running it did not work.. Why didn't I think of just killing this process?

Consider yourself lucky. I tried to install the t/s, went to get me a cuppa of coffee and when I looked on my screen, scandisk from windows was running. It found several files damaged.

After scandisk was done, my desktop came up, only when I tried to click any icon or tool/browse bar, windows rebooted! Something has happened mayor during the installation of the t/s. I have now re installed windows and I am quite grumpy/angry about this!

This came on top with the "redeem content" crap!

Just a bump to the Litany of Pain

WinXP x64 (running the x64 SP2, which has been noted is not the same as the SP2 for the 32 bit WinXP)
Athlon dual core
The game's installed on my D: drive in it's own folder. The regserv32 thing didn't work. Still hangs. Looks like I'm waiting for the patched version to come out.
Bugger.

Anyone have ideas on this?

Thanks.

Installation is complete, however right at the end it gave me an error saying it could not locate Dragon Age Uninstall.exe or something, I ignored it and it finished. After using the above manual registration is appears to be working now. Thank you, this thread should be stickied...if it isn't already. lol

I believe there is a sticky relating to this, stating not to instal the toolset if you're running Windows XP service pack 2 or lower.  I haven't personally gone through it, but I'm sure there is more information there.

Tried uninstall-reinstall the toolset for the third time - on Win XP 64 SP2 ( there is no SP3 for this version of win XP). Got stuck on regsvr32 Endine.dll, again. Manual registering failed with no error , again. Basically I get hourglass cursor for lik 30-45 sec and then nada with no success or failed message. Lightmapoper refuses to work with "make sure that your Engine.dll is registered" message. Using the regsvr32 in the %systemroot%\\\\\\\\SysWoW64\\\\\\\\regsvr32.exe instead of %systemroot%\\\\\\\\System32\\\\\\\\regsvr32.exe results in not even showing hourglass cursor.

Would appreciate an update on the status of Toolset patch. This single dll not registering seems to be one of the main culprits so far...

Can somebody who has the toolset /lightmap working find the reg entry/ies for their Engine .dll on 64 bit system and post it here?

So far my toolset is doing everyhting that it is supposed to do, as far as I can see, except I cannot render lightmaps, and as result, exporting my new levels - both exterior and interior fails al the time. It is really very very upsetting. :(

Btw , I use SQL Server Developer edition instead of Express so db is no issue.

I'm having similiar issues.  I have 64bit Vista and the toolset installation hung up at the regsvr32 but the install completed once I killed that process in my task manager.  When I went to run to register the .dll I also got my hourglass for 30 seconds and then nothing happened.

When I execute the toolset (was curious if it would even work for me), it does the same thing: the hourglass works for about 20-30 seconds and nothing pops up.  Interestingly, in my task manager, Dragon Age Toolset.exe *32 is "running," but nothing is really running.

Weird thing is my fiancee and I have computers that are pretty much clones of each other (both hardware and software, we even recently reformatted) and the installed and was running on his computer the other day without any snags.  (He's going to reinstall it to see if there's any issues for him.)  Go figure!!  :crying:

Okay, so he and I decided to test a few things.  He unistalled and reinstalled it again and had no problems whatsoever.  When I uninstalled, it hung up again at the regsvr32.  We even downloaded a new copy of the toolset from the Bioware site.  I made some changes to my system to more resemble his and I still can't get the toolset to run/install properly.  *pumps fist in the air*  It's so unfair -- he probably isn't even going to use it! lol

Hopefully some smart folks out there can make heads or tails of this.  I really want to get it to work on my own computer!

Is there any chance that this issue could be resolved by fixing the program on BioWare's end, rather than ours? Maybe it's time for version 1.02.

Just a thought...
