The Geth are artificial intelligences because they are networked. Isn't that made blatantly obvious?
And how does the rest of it even have anything to do with what you're saying?

I take it back the bread thing, at least you can put butter on bread and make it tasty. You have no hope at all.

AdamBoozer you need to realize that me3 is not even out yet, and we can only hypothesize on what the answers to all the mysteries are .. Nothing you say about the next game can you refer to as fact, only as wild speculations, which are as good as anyone else's

Basing your speculations on interpretations of the codex and acting all superior and elitist doesn't help you in any way

Now if you were trolling on the other hand, i would congratulate you 8/10.. You really managed to get some people agitated

I don't know about you, but if me and a millions or so of my fellow humans were put through the traumatic experience of having our bodies turned into slush, we sure as hell wouldn't join the Reapers in their nefarious galaxy-wide slaughter. We'd be all like "Hell yeah, look at all this power we got! Let's stick it to the Reapers then go surfing or something!"

In short, making your enemy consciously more powerful is the stupidest idea in the world. Why would they put a million functional human brains/personalities together and give them a body as powerful as their own? More likely that as someone else said, they're completely melted to slush to fuel the Reaper. If they retained anything of themselves other than the fact that they know they're humans, they wouldn't stand for what the Reapers are doing.

I think you're forgetting one of the Reapers powers... A little thing called indoctrination

So do they indoctrinate every individual before the turning-to-goo process... or the entire Reaper consciousness after it's been given 'life' ?

Yeah, that doesn't really work for me.

Assumeing for a moment that the human-reaper thing is actually how Reapers reproduce, I don't think the individuals melted down into the Reaper would have a group consciouness inside the Reaper or need to be indoctrinated to do so.

The Normandy crew was to be melted down into the Reaper and if you saved them they clearly were not indoctrinated. Reapers are true AI (similar to the Geth) they have individual selfaware programs inside of the "platform" makeing up the unit; the Geth much more primitive though.

In the end, Kelly, or Chakwas or Rupert melted down into the Reaper would hardly qualify for a AI program, inside the Reaper.

On the other hand if they do have consciouness inside the Reaper body, think of it as Shepard was killing Kelly and pals.

My honest opinion is that the Reapers were created (possibly billions of years) ago by a much greater race. The sole purpose of the Reapers was to purged the galaxy of life to ensure the creators species dominance. Once the creator species died (or perhaps the Reapers pulled a Geth and turned on them) the Reapers continued to do so because it was what they were programmed to do.

My other theory is that the Reapers were created to protect life, and by wiping it out maintained genetic diversity. Or perhaps they were created to save life from a far more evil entity. After all, Harbinger states that the Reapers are your salvation through destruction.

Of course. Killing husks with anything less than the flame thrower just feels... empty.

Yes it would seem like they where created by a old race for a purpose, and somewhere along the line it all went wrong. But that seems very predictable, Iam expecting a real shocker.

Personally, I think Harbinger is full of crap.

As a self-professed Sinker, I'm willing to entertain the notion that the cycle of destruction is necessary for the continuation of species' birth and evolution. Nobody really knows what would happen if a race was left to evolve indefinitely. Maybe they would become like the Reapers. Maybe the Reapers were originally designed as a lifeboat system, to store the consciousness of an entire species... and perhaps it went horribly wrong. There's just so many "what ifs" I can run through... I like to keep my options open by not committing myself to a single Reaper philosophy... unlike others in this thread who rabidly claim there can be only one purpose and that their view is the correct one.

Too much like monotheism for me.

I absolutely refuse to entertain the idiotic notion of giant terminator-reapers flying about like super robots from 1970's Japanese shows.
Nor the idea that cuttlefish could develop the technology to create or impress the Reapers.

Pfft.

Voltron would own you and any other Reaper out there.

No, no, it was giant Copepods from the tiny nation of Arulco... [/unnecessary grognardish game reference]

Regarding the Geth: In ME1, Tali definitively states that the Geth were not designed as true AIs, but as VIs.  The implication, confirmed in ME2 by Legion, was that the size the network led to the Geth accidentally developing true AI.  They were not designed as such.  The Codex entry addressing the Geth as "a synthetic race of networked AIs" is a description of the current Geth, not a comment on their origins, unless we assume both Tali and Legion don't know the Geth's true history, which would be, to borrow a phrase from Mr. Croshaw, pants-on-head retarded.

@Angry: I admire your courage in jumping on the bread grenade for all of us.  Let it be known throughout the internet: copy pasting stuff is no longer enough to win an argument.  Even bread can do it.

Addendum: I wonder if this thread might offer insight into the rise in wheat gluten allergies?

it was from mass effect wiki jedi. She just didn't read it and asumed it was from there and I didn't feel like correcting her because (she will prob reply to this posting a troll comment and not read this) she dosen't exactly take critism very well. As shown throught the thread. LOL

The Geth were VIs designed for interconnectivity to be more efficient at certain tasks. Each individual VI isn't sapient, they only achieve it by networking hundreds together.
Human brains don't work that way.. and it wouldn't matter even if they could because, and I can't stress this enough, they are melted into slush

LOL

Now that part of that is taken care of. I copied most of what I saw because i didn't feel like looking back and pasting and looking back and pasting ect. Would of taken too long.

anyway just to get past all this banter this quote was taken right from the requiered reading that only a few people in here did lol I was one just so you know. Good bye and have fun people. For the angry one stop making it persinal and being a troll gets to be pretty boring though it was good fun catching you contradict yourself. lol

How the hell did I contradict myself?

Are you that dense? The Geth are artificial intelligences when their individual VIs are networked, this is how they gain sapience and become articial intelligence.

And stop linking whole swathes of the codex for no reason.

See, my question was an either/or. I asked "do they do X, or Y?" to which you replied "Yes".

Come on, I shouldn't have to explain the definition of a question here.
