During Garrus's loyalty mission (on Hardcore), when I had the two YMIRs coming at me, I had them both channelled into a very small path to get to me. I got one down, it overloaded, and blew up, killing the second one, who still had about 1/3 shield and full armor and health.
I only used the Cain once, and didn't really get a chance to see it (was hiding behind a pillar during most of the explosion because the Thresher Maw was being mean). But looking at the YMIR explosion, it did seem to have a very brief mushroom cloud look, and the damage it did is certainly huge.
Exploding YMIR Mechs = Cain?
