I would like to see how the forum views the mako and planet scanning. Which one do you prefer?

They are both bad, but the anomaly missions are better - planet scanning wins.

I loathed the Mako with a blind vengeance

That's like saying which is better? Anal sex with a Krogan (with you as the receiver) or listening to an album by Olivia Newton John.

I liked both but didn't love either.

Would have been better if after your first playthrough you didn't need to keep scanning for minerals, and in ME1 on repeat playthrough's the UNC collection assignments were all automatically done AND / OR all maps had location markers done on them.

Both were boring, and while you had cool scenery while driving, it doesn't get so cool the...3rd...4th...5th...6th...7th time you finish ME.

Planet Scanning is boring, but I can finish a planet within 2/3 minutes and I get a good reward for it.

I like Planet scanning more.

Planet Scanning is ME1 is comparable to planet scanning in ME2.

As both are used to purely gather resources.

The Mako is ME1 will be comparable to the Hammerhead in ME2.

As both are used for doing side-quests.

Planet scanning is also used to find quest locations in ME2, similar to the mako. Instead of driving to the quest area, you scan the planet to find the quest area.

Pressing scan in ME1 found anomolies such as meteors , freigthers, or bases on moons; just like ME2.

The Mako was used for gathering resources, sidequesting, and exploration. Planet scanning in ME2 does not serve the same functions as a vehicle, the only comparable thing will be the Hammerhead.

If you want to say Scanning for a quests puts you right on the quest area as opposed to having to drive to it; then that is a case of exploration vs linearity.
I pick exploring.

I guess my points was, both scanning and the mako serve the same purpose. They just do it diffrently.

They don't serve the same purpose.

The scanning in ME1 and the scanning in ME2, serve the same purpose.

It just so happens that the Mako also was a way to gather resources but that was not its sole purpose. Sort of like how Shepard can gather minerals during missions, not the reason he is there no matter how helpful to your upgrade needs.

The poll isn't a good poll. Planet scanning was never meant to replace Mako. Mako was replaced by small bite sized encounters, and the planet scanning was meant to supplement that system.

I prefer the scanning. The Mako landing planets were very poorly implemented in the first game. The Mako combat was actually pretty cool, though.

The main resourse gathering came from the mako in ME1, the main resourse gathering came from planet scanning in ME2. Thats how i came up with the poll options.

No, you can scan all the resources you needed in ME1 just by scanning planets. If you used the Mako to get minerals then you maxxed out on minerals before you ran out of planets to scan and just generated credits and experience.

I'd rather scan a planet than drive around in nothingness and go up 90 degrees slopes just to get to an even more annoying minigame. Scanning is the lesser evil (though it is annoying)

Mako landing planets and the ones you only scanned aren't even in the same league; let alone rightfully comparable.

Your fault entirely for not looking at the map. If I recall there was only one late game planet that had a mountain with a steep slope that was required to drive up.

I didnt know you could get all the require minerals by just scanning plannets(and asteroids).

I prefer planet scanning. I hated driving around entering a combo of buttons on my controller just to get some minerals I didn't even need.

I prefered the planet scanning for minerals but as for the planets I think the Mako just edges it for me, cannot beat roaming around that planet with blue giant Grissom blazing away overhead, totally awesome.

I meant minerals for the collection quest. But you get my point.

I prefer Planet Scanning. Mako was pain in the ass, plus most of the planets looked pretty much the same with pathetic terrain.
