You do realize planning scanning did not replace the Mako...

Planet scanning replaced surveying
Drop missions replaced the Mako missions.

Get it right.

You're right, but...
In me1 you have to drive and explore to get there...
In me2 you are dropped right on the front door

Whats missing?? the middle part

I have no problem with people disliking that they took out the Mako.

I just don't like it when they say it was "replaced" by scanning.

We'll have to see how the Hammerhead is before we can totally **** to BW.

OMG, I just finished playing a bunch of side missions for ME1 (trying to create a level 60 character to import)....anyway, I must say to Bioware, thank you from the bottom of my heart for axing the Mako.

Not that driving it is a pain or even the mountains really. It's the fact that everything is soooo effin' far away from anything else. I'm driving for like 10 minutes from one end of the map to the other for what is essentially 5 geth and a husk. Really!? How could we ever enjoy that at the time? lol.

Now granted I do like driving the Mako but my issues are loading and distance, if those can be lessened then I'm all for bringing it back.

Agreed, the mako was fine, the side missions blew.

It felt more like work than gaming.

Poll is completely flawed.

Mako != Planet Scanning.
Scanning/Resource "hacking" = Planet Scanning.
Mako = Hammerhead.

You're comparing shooting, driving, doing quests and exploration in ME1 (all done in the Mako), to JUST Resource Gathering in ME2. Of course people will choose the Mako option.

The more appropriate poll would be

"Driving/Searching for Minerals ONLY and Surveying them."
vs
"Planet Scanning for Minerals."

Wha?
I could understand that driving the mako over those high mountains could be a little unstable
But the actual plot missions on the mako were great

Mako by a long way.

Sure it had a few things that needed tweaking, but it was far superior to "Launching Probe"

It was the UCWs that let it down.  They all needed to be of the calibre of BDtS.

Crap double post, better make it worth it...

DarthCaine wrote...

I'd rather scan a planet than drive around in nothingness and go up 90 degrees slopes just to get to an even more annoying minigame. Scanning is the lesser evil (though it is annoying)

So what you're saying is, it was the UCWs that were crap and not the Mako?

Are you even serious with the poll?!

Edgy mountains and copy paste buildings, facilities and caves? Worst quest experiences I ever had with a game.

I tried a new playthrough in ME1 after I played ME2. Couldn't even do half of the sidemissions. It was really tedious. Whereas the sidemissions in ME2 finally got some improvement.

I don't quite love the planet scanning and the importance of those minerals, but it's far more relaxing then the Mako missions, where I always sighed and wished the sidemission to be over real quick.

Overall, the Mako. The Mako was terrible, terrible, terrible. But at least you felt like you were doing something. With planet scanning, you might aswell just completely zone out, if it wasn't for the fact that you have to watch a couple of lines for spikes.

The only thing that was really bad about the Mako was the generic landscapes and the steering/controls/nonsensical mountains.

Very weird talking about how copy pasted buildings were your worst experience in a game(Lets ignore the fact that is how most if not all games did missions) BUT find scanning the same, singular, copy pasted sphere. Weird.

Yeah, surely you'll like more moving around the mouse over a sphere which is the same no matter the size of the planet at the rhythm of "probe launch" "probe away"

Ohhh, FUN!!!

Honestly I would probably go with the mako. Although it was also tedious and the mako was a pain in the ass to drive, I liked driving around on random planets.

What GnumasTHX said. To expand, I am an obsessive completionist in games so in ME1 on all my games I try to do every mission including mineral gathering. Exploring is really cool on play through 1 and on 2 and 3 as you discover tiny details that you missed the first time. But once you get to game 4, 5, and so forth it becomes tedious. I much prefer scanning minerals I need and leaving all other planets untapped. Side quests in ME2 were infinitely better and I'd rather have a small unique and artistic linear map than a bunch of very large cut and paste maps.

The Mako sucked when driving over procedurally generated terrain, but was a lot of fun on missions like 'Bring Down the Sky'.

Picking up minerals sucks full stop. I'm a Commander and a Spectre- why am I doing the grunt work that's best left to the mechs?

scaning the mako is pure pain on 360

scaning on the PC - works very well.

Well for me the Mako is the better choice.

Love it or loathe it, the Mako worked as part of the universe and added another element to combat. It also worked in a pacing sense.

However Mass Effect 2 seems to have been tweaked to create a more fast paced game. Everything from the inventory, upgrades and combat is quicker. Then you come to the planet scanning and it is like running head first into a brick wall, its slow pace it completely at odds with the rest of the game.

I hated the mako mainly because how it handled and some of the planets had lots of high mountains so getting over them was a real pain in the a**. So I go with planet scanning.

I like the Mako! The scenery alone makes it worthwile just to explore some of the worlds in ME1... and seriously, who did not get chills while driving around on the moon, watching Earth? One of the best gaming moments ever! <3

Scanning is barely better than the mako.

really, it was the terrain that sucked the most....ok, maybe the controls were worse....

I vote we just get rid of minerals and use abasic econmy like every other sensible RPG.

Anyone at Bioware listening?

Mako was so much better. Coming from a 360 perspective, planet scanning was oh so so slow and just so boring.
