Just got into the MAKO for the first time ... I HATE IT!
I HATE driving it
I HATE trying to shoot things with it
I HATE driving and trying to shoot things with it at the same time.

PLEASE tell me that there is a cheat code for the PC to make the MAKO invulnerable. I just want to get through the story, not play bloody HALOPosted Image

I'm not seeing anything specifically for the MAKO, what cheat should I be using?

oops, i'm sorry. I forgot they don't have cheats for the MAKO, but you can get infinite tools for fixing MAKO tho.

There is a cheat on the ME Wiki to set it's rocket jump last longer, but I doubt that's helpful. You can pretty much rush past the enemies without killing them off. Those occasions where you must use the Mako for the main plot planets are joyrides compared to mineral searching.

Compare to this ... scanning planets was fun.

You could try using the teleport command. I never tried it from inside the Mako though.

never played ME on PC xbox user myself but yah the mako sucks,my general way of dealing with it is running those on the ground over and mainly using the canon and play hide and seek with the npc's.

Its annoying at first, but once you get used to it, its not so bad. Just stop moving and shoot. If you're fighting Thresher Maws, shoot at them until they rear up to spit at you, move a bit, stop and shoot again.

Use the Mass Effect Wiki to know exactly where you have to go to save time. It has maps of all the ground planets, and where all the hot spots are.

The mako isn't terrible as long as you use the maps. As Shanra said, look up the planet maps on the ME wiki, and you'll literally save hours.

True enough, if your in a rush to complete the game and port your save to ME2 or something, then the mako would be down right annoying because it kills time. But for me personally I never had a problem with its controls on the PC. And I don't tend to shoot at targets while driving much anyway. You won't be able to zoom in and aim very well like that. Normally I stop, fire, then move a bit, dodge incoming, then fire back and repeat.

Also I think its pretty hard to die while driving the mako unless your not paying attention. The first time you meet a thresher maw though is tough because you need to keep on the move to survive. But most enemies just keep your distance and its easy XP Posted Image

I kind of like the Mako, in principle anyway. As much as I love ME2 I would prefer not to arrive at exactly the corrrect point and would like to travel to the location instead. I just think The Mako was poorly done in ME1. Just travel without having to blow things up would be great.

A couple of things that might help with the Mako. Remember enemies aim at the nose. If you can get the nose behind cover, you can sit there and shoot with impunity. Also remember that using it to kill things will cost you experience. Finally, Thresher maws and rockets, you can time them so that you can jump over the acid or rocket. When the thresher or rocket is launched just hit the jump jets. With a little practice you'll never get hit.

Personally I deal with them just by getting out and circle strafing on foot. I find that this works better for me, all you have to worry about is melee range.

I played ME on the xbox 360 and I liked the mako. It was hard to drive and shoot, but wrestling with the controls made it fun. Anyone else enjoy bug hunting on Nepmos?

The vehicle is fine, it's the terrain that's a pain is the ass really, especially when the devs put various things to find on top of mountains and what I would call destroyed terrain, that's what makes the Mako jump and bounce and dance around making us lose time and patience, and sometimes sanity.

Important things to remember about the Mako:

1) The Mako is ONLY for driving, so you don't have to walk

2) The Mako is NOT for fighting- get out and fight whatever it is on foot; you'll get more experience

3) The Mako CAN NOT be destroyed if you are not in it, believe me I tried (at least on the PC version)- so hide behind it if necessary

Just a tip. The only part of the Mako that gets targeted is the nose. Keep the nose behind cover and you won't get shot.

ME is a shooter/rpg. You have to do both to get through it: shoot and play roles. There is nothing wrong with the mako, nothing wrong with the terrain. Obstacles are there so you have to actually do something.

The only reason I'm playing ME 1&2 is because the story is awesome. I generally avoid shooter games, I've never been very good at them and can only play them at easy or normal level. I avoid first person shooters at all cost. Don't play driving games either which is why I had to return Gran Theft Auto after a month of trying to play it. Great story, and game play as long as I'm not in a vehicle.

Sigh, I miss out a lot because of game play.

Umm, watch out on that one. The Mako can get so damaged it catches on fire and upon entering it you can die. It's easily avoided by quick saving before you enter a burning Mako, and the loading the quick save will restor it to full health. Or you can just enter it after wuick saving, and load the quick save only if it kills you. It seems semi random... I think if you wait a minute for it's shields to regen a smidgen, it's fine. It's only when you enter it when it's been completely damaged and had no time to regen some shields that it kills you. But I can't be certain, better save than sorry.

ad1. Agree in that point.
ad2. Well.. did you try kill Thresher Maw using your hand weapons (in ME 2 that is poosible thanks to missile laucher) or one vs one combat whit Geth Colossus?
It's possible but one hit from Colossus main plasma gun and you report to heavens door:innocent: (aka Mission failure) however XP bonus for gunning him down in direct combat is worth risk.:o
ad3. Not quite.
Like someody pinted here Mako culd be damaged during combat what might kills you if you try enter burning vechicle.

Yes I did.  I usually kill everything in ME1 with hand weapons, including the Threshew Maws and the various Colossuses.   My last play-thru, I didn't even run over any of the Geth found in or near the tunnels on Therum or Noveria (I wanted to see the maximum amount of experience one could get in a single run).

That one is new to me.  While I have only resorted to it a small handful of times, I have yet to be killed entering a burning Mako.  I -have- had to spend some omni-gel to repair said burning Mako before driving off, as I have done enough damage in a fall (while on fire) to queue the music and end the mission right there.

You know, you're probably right on that shields thing.  Usually by the time I have killed whatever has turned my Mako into a flaming pyre, I have moved from behind it and have drawn off the fire for at least a short time, and I don't remember ever getting into the Mako and have it not have at least one full bar of shield.

But I can't be certain, better save than sorry.

That is good advice in just about any situation..
