Someone already said only the nose gets targeted, and they're right. Drive back and forth in a line perpendicular to your enemies, and the only things that can hit you are straight up bullets (should be able to stay far enough away that they aren't hazardous (snipe with the cannon) or the Rockets on BDtS.

I've been doing this last playthrough on foot... damn if it doesn't feel badass to bring down a thresher that way...

I just started playing ME1, so this is my first experience with the Mako.

Driving is a bit difficult, but manageable, though i am sure I will get bored of it after a while.

Anyways ... my first landing, and I happen upon some plutonium deposits that showed up on my scanners. Now what are they for?? .. and how can I mine them??

Also how on earth to I exit the Mako??

There are only settings for driving and aiming the thing, but none for exiting or mining (if that is possible).

Exit: Press B

Enter: Press A

When you happen across a mineral, artifact, or salvagable debris, exit the mako and press a on the objects. You will play the same mini game you do when unlocking things. The minerals and artifacts are secondary quests that count towards your completionist status. You can also find them by scanning planets (you can only scan some, usually on the edge of systems, and it will say press Y to scan at the bottom of the screen, in the same place it says land). Other than that, you get a **** ton of money for them, and the same amount of XP you'd get for killing an average geth.

Note for those driving the Mako and meeting the thrasher maw (there are max 6 trasher maws in ME1 I believe - 5 or 6). DO NOT get close to the thrasher maw. If you get too close it'll use it claws, and no matter your situation of the Mako, it will be an instant kill. At some points (2 or 3) it will be always an edge-driving situation. Smart way is that if you hear the roar, get back to where you came from. Often the thrasher maw will pop up (not too long though), and then quicksave, note the position where the blasted beast popped up and get going.

On the PC, you exit the Mako with "Q". Disregard the codex/manual.

There are actually 9 Threshers.

And if you bring the Mako to halt when you hear the roar, the Thresher should pop up outside of melee range if you just wait. Then you can just stay put and use jump jets to dodge the spit. Driving around just causes it to go back under and pop up again, so it's better to just stay put.
