You have problem playing ME1 now, even if it ran fine X months ago? You play ME2 easily? Well, my soulution to you is clean up your PC (inside it), especially the fans. I checked the temperatures of my components with hardware monitor (go and download it), and was shocked to find that my Processor (Phenom II 940) maxed out at 90 degrees Celcius. Well, after I cleaned up inside my PC (it is usually very, very easy) it didn't go above 60 degrees Celcius.

Well, and now my ME1 runns ALLOT better. Though Bioware's opitmization of ME1 was terrible. Those responsible for it should be ashamed for their incompetence.

Bioware had nothing to do with that, they outsourced the port to Demiurge Studios.
