I chose Garrus for my Shephard in Mass Effect 2, who previously had a relationship with Liara....although this is just what I feel is comfortable enough.

But I've recently restarted the game on a 'Default' John Shephard (Not imported), and it shows that Shephard let Kaidan die, kept Ashley alive who had concerns for him upon the Normandy's destruction....yet there was no intimacy when they reunited on Horizon.

I guess the Default is as close to Canon as you'll get, and like it or not, it says so far that Shephard hasn't been involved in a relationship..or tried one with Ashley and stopped it. I don't like it much either, so I guess it's great that Bioware lets everyone choose.

My FemShep got really bad vibes from Jacob. She's sticking with Kaidan.

I hate Jacob. He is like "oh yeah I respect you so much!"

That's why you second guess everything I do and antagonize my friends?

a-hole.

If I had to choose between those two I would choose Kaidan definitely.  He's a little closed off at times and he acted like a douchebag on Horizon, but Jacob to me was little more than a fling.  I always got the sense that Kaidan really cared quite a lot.  He was just really sucky at expressing it.  Jacob comes off tot me as "I WANTS MOAR SEX!" though I freely admit this is largely because of the extremely forward way that femshep comes onto him.  He might be quite nice if I was allowed to approach him in a different way.  I'd take Garrus and Thane over either of them though.  I'd love to have a solid human LI for Mass Effect.  I just think these too are a little dull compared to past Bioware human LIs.  I like Sky, Carth, and Alistair much better.

Default female Shepard without a ME1 save game has Shep having saved Kaidan so they just go opposite sex for the default.

both where terriable roamnces. Kaidan was a Carth wannabe and Jacob just wants sex.

Kaidan and Carth may share a voice actor, but Carth got really creepy when he suddenly had to shout "I love you!" at the top of his lungs.

That was when I retreated back into the Ebon Hawk and found out that I had a lesbian (or rather, bisexual) catgirl on my team.

Kaidan's nice, though. He's a bit messed up, careful about relationsh-- and now I realize why I picked Jack as my first romance in ME2. Nice.

Alright that's it, the next person who equates default Shep with canon is going to write

DEFAULT DOES NOT MEAN CANON, THERE IS NO CANON. 100 times on a blackboard with a half-chewed piece of chalk!

/ragemode off

As for this whole thing, Jacob. Good friend, creepy, creepy LI.

Kaidan is sensitive, charming and also hot. Yes hotness isn't the defining factor in any relationship but hey it helps.

Kaidan for the win. Jacob said he wasn't man enough for Miranda. What makes him think he's man enough for my Shepard?

Exactly...why would Shep want to be with someone that settled for her as their second choice. Jacob is just interested in sex anyway.

Oh and Shephard isn't interested in just sex? Give me a break. Shephard is a loose woman with a huge sexual appetite.

God i hated kaiden, but i hated jacob even more. Why are your human male squadmates always a bunch of whiny ****** or kiss asses?

Bad visual direction on BioWare's part. I suppose they were ambivalent about male love interests for female mains given Bastila gets a kiss and all while Carth gets his Amish 10 foot declaration of love.
The dialog however was pretty good, especially if you go darkside. Poor Carth.

I think it started back in BG2 with Anomen . Tradition.

Alistair was better though.

Not to mention he dies too often comparing to other squadmates.

He's got both electronics and barrier. He's not nearly as fragile as say... Garrus. <.< Speaking strictly ME1 here.

Also, Kaidan doesn't make you feel like your second best. Jacob  does have a habit of doing that. Kaidan is better for my female shepard.

Yeah right. Shephard is the one who comes on strongly to Jacob right from jump.

Garrus did not die on me as many times as Kaidan. Different game experience. Also two sentinels in one team is a crowd.

Between Kaidan and Jacob, from what I've seen and heard of the Jacob romance, I'd stick with Kaidan. But between all the guys in both games, at least for my current Shepard, Garrus seems to make the most (and yet also the least) sense. 'Cause by that end scene it's pretty clear that it's not just about sleeping together. And hey, they're already friends. Unless, of course, they aren't.

I'm going with Jacob. Give the guy a chance and it gets better. Also if you break up with him after romancing him you can tell he wasn't in it just for the sex. He's just a playful guy is all.

The boring sissy vs the token black guy who is about as interesting as a brick wall
-seems like a lose-lose situation to me

On another note why does eveyone have to mention Jacob as the black guy? I don't see Kaiden getting called the white guy. Strikes me as subconscious racism.
