While I know Griffens are extinct, i thin it would be cool to resurect or create via stem cells or magical alchemy science (Full Metal Alchemist without the loss of limb and body) and then ride it across Ferelden.  Bio could even pull a Bethesda and charge us $5 for Griffen Armor (Drakeskin or Dragonbone?)  If you would or wouldnt like this idea please leave why in the comment section located south of your eyes.

I don't want this at all. I don't think you realize just how much work it would take to add. They'd need the griffon models, motion animations, a Z axis (that currently does not exist), and more just to add in an unnecessary feature. If they felt horses added little to the story, griffons would add even less for more work.

And, as you said, they are extinct. And as far as I know, there is no stem cell research in Thedas. Blame it on Bush.

Dragons were also considered extinct in the lore of Dragon Age, until they reappeared marking the start of the *dundundun*... Dragon Age.

If the Dragon Age franchise sticks around long enough, I think we will see griffons. Not in this expansion, and almost certainly not in any expansion for Origins. But in DA2 or an expansion for it? Or in a future installment after that? I think so.

I am less confident that they will be ridable, though. Maybe.

I'm pretty sure that for a game to be full 3D it will need a Z-axis.

pretty sure you won't see it until maybe Dragon Age 3, the game lacks any sort of aerial combat mechanic, you can't even attack the dragon while they are in the air.

And maby if Calin was still king we would have the stem cell research required for the Second Coming of the Griffon

But Dragons add something to the story. Griffons don't. They're a cool factor, not something integral to the whole storyline. Like I said, if they can't be bothered with horses, there's no way they'd ever go to the trouble to add both the game mechanics and the story explanation just for some unrideable creatures. Adding an entire Z axis just to have rideable griffons is even more of a waste of resources.

Whaaaat? Griffons are embedded in lore of the Gray Wardens. They are the SYMBOL of the Gray Wardens, and were once what the Gray Wardens were known for best... they are part of the reason Gray Wardens were figures of legend.

I respectfully disagree that they don't add anything to the story. There's as much story value there as there is for dragons.

Edit: Just to make sure it's clear, I don't care about them flying or being ridable. I'm more interested in the story of it.

z-axis, rideable flying griffons, with armor that you can fight off the back of, oh and drop bombs from too, or I'm not getting this game! (Sorry. Channeling NWN forums again.)

Gryphon pet, like Dog. A fighting companion with wing buffeting and claw swiping abilities, let's say. No Z-axis here. You could even mangle its wings so there would be an excuse for not being able to fly. It could be like an outsider in a secretive gryphon clan, like how dragons hid themselves away until the beginning of the Dragon Age.

I don't know that I would actually want a gryphon, but saying it would never be possible because of Z-axis limitations or whatever isn't the entire truth. The biggest problem would be creating whole new models, if they decided not to use the small winged dragon ones for a base.

I supose that this game would have to be open world live Elder Scrolls 4 or Fallout 3 for a flying mount mechanic to work to any affect. But having a gryphon in shimmering golden armor that stands 10 feet high would look nice in anyones camp...or above anyones fireplace....

What happened to them anyway, why and how did they die out?

I for one would love to see both griffins and horses added to the game, as well as a much more open world, via oblivion/fallout 3.

Obviously - such a thing would have to wait until DA3 or something...

Stem cell research in a medieval society? That is quite the stretch...

Ehh. Griffins are cool and everything but i'd prefer them being simply NPCs and only being ridable in cutscenes.
