As a long time DM I really enjoy putting mood into my  games through music I have a game table with speakers mounted underneath and play various classical pcs to set the mood during certain parts of the game. My favorite is Conans gladiator theme, have one character that no matter how bad the opponent when I fire up that track he just has to go into combat regardless. Has made for some verry interesting game play. But my question is how many of you have ever used music during a game of ther own to set a particular mood.........and how much does the music affect your game play?

This includes pc games as well as tabletop and xbox and the like.

Progressive rock. Bands like Dream Theater, Symphony X, Spock's Beard. These bands are used for more fast action games. To set a more dramatic mood, music from the bands Good Is a Astronaut, or Long Distance Calling. When it comes to Dragon Age I will more and likely not listen to music until I know the whole story.

If you count real-life music tracks inserted into the universe of The Sims 2, then yes heh. As I said on another thread, it just adds a feeling of realism to pixellated suburbia, and helps define the personalities of the Sims I'm playing (do they listen to Britney or Nirvana or Tupac on the radio, for instance?). And for a time I used a nice little contemplatively moody song by Paul McCartney called "Peace In The Neighborhood" as a background track, as it suited the scenario well.

When I am angry, I listen to A7x. When I'm depressed, I listen to MCR.

Yes, music by Yann Tiersen in Amelie was gorgeous. ^_^

You can hear the influence of Eric Satie (a late 19th, early 20th century composer) on that soundtrack. Satie's known for beautiful, rather minimal piano pieces that were ahead of their time.

Here's one example: Eric Satie - Gymnopédie No. 1   (This version is good, but played too fast. Had trouble finding a good quality YouTube version with no frills, bad recording quality, or extra noices in the background.)
