Consensus: Worst squadmates for Horizon - Videos are up!

Making a quick video for the combat basics guide in my sig.  Wanted to know who the general population believes is the worst team possible (regardless of Shepard's class) to bring to Horizon.

at this stage you only have jacob, miranda, garrus, jack and grunt yeah? if so, then jacob and jack will be the worst.

I took Jack and Garrus. Things didn't go especially well as there were too many large open areas for Jack to be utterly ineffective thanks to the shotgun and pistol, not to mention her Biotics are limited range too. Garrus was about the only help but saddly there was quite a bit of Barrier and Armor on Horizon so fights dragged out quite a bit.



We did well against the waves of Husks and stuff but that final boss was an absolute pig!

Are you on crack? Ya two people who can use pull and one has inferno ammo that rips through armor, they're terrible....

It will be on Insanity.  If any of you have seen the other videos, then you know I will be using a Soldier with only the occasional Concussive Shot, no Adrenaline Rush, as it is supposed to be less about individual powers and team members and more about strategy, tactics, and your team as a whole.

Among the squad mates you can have legit at that point in the game...I'd say don't take Garrus or Zaeed or Jack. Jacob is fine (Pull useful, Incind Ammo useful), Mordin is good (Incinerate), Miranda is good (Warp), Grunt is useable (Incind Ammo, Conc shot not worthless vs. Barriers, good passive).



Pre-loyalty Jack stinks other than Pull. Garrus has Conc shot vs. Barrier but Overload is wasted...A loyal Zaeed has Inferno Grenade and a good passive but Disrupter Ammo is a waste there.



So yeah, avoid Zaeed/Garrus/Jack.

Yep. Jack and Jacob. Garrus has concussive shot. Miranda has warp. Grunt has concussive shot. Mordin has incinerate. Zaeed has concussive shot and incendiary grenades. Jack and Jacob have no powers that are effective against barriers and armor and they are both shotgun-toting losers.

You know you can have a loyal Zaeed before Horizon right? I took Zaeed + Grunt with me on insanity as a Sentinel and had no problems (and I thought it would be hard judging by the comments on these forums). Distrupter ammo also helps against Harbringer's biotic barriers and conc. shot is great against husks + drones.

I agree with Jackal904 - both Jack and Jacob would be very useful on Horizon for me.



Here's my list of least useful people on Horizon and a bit of reasoning why:



1. Garrus. He's got an unimaginitive passive ability, concussive shot - which is only worth something as a get me the hell out of this soup ability and finally the utterly useless Overload against barriers, armor and health.



2. Zaed. A decent passive ability, useless ammo ability on Horizon, conc shot again which is useless against anything but the basic collector troops when their barriers have been removed(but puts them out of line of sight most of the time). Only guy who has should have his loyalty ability unlocked by Horizon. Inferno Grenade isn't exactly bad, and might be a clever second tier to max after you got his passive up - but most people want to save points to use him as an anti-geth squaddie with his disruptor ammo..



3. Mordin. Boring passive ability(need more cooldown/power ability for our casters!), Cryo Blast and inferno are both very useful - but like someone mentioned further up the thread he's the guy who just doesn't know when to duck. Keeping him alive is a major pain - and should only be used while forced behind cover far from the action. Like everyone knows you have little options here in the final area on Horizon.



4. Grunt. Very good option to bring with you. Incindenary Ammo is godly against all collectors. He's very tough, but like most stuff he dies very quickly on insanity if you don't manage his movements all the time in the final area. He lacks a nuke spell though, conc shot just doesnt cut it unless you max it for area effect against husks. But husks really arent your major concern on Horizon and you really haven't got the points to spend on maxing conc shot. Getting squad ammo and putting the rest in his passive seems like the best option tbh.



5. Jack. Incredible passive ability. Second best in the game IMO after Miranda. Pull is just godly on insanity, don't leave home without it. Shock is decent as well, and is suprisingly quick off cooldown with her passive maxed out.



6. Jacob. Decent passive ability. Squad incendiary and pull is just pure win.



7. Miranda. Best passive ability in the game in my opinion. Warp > collectors. Overload has allready been mentioned at how poor it is against collectors - but with her other two abilities that doesnt really matter.

Then definitely go with Jack and Jacob. As a soldier it's extremely useful to have two biotics with pull in your squad. And I recommend doing Jack's loyalty mission as soon as possible so that you can get her squad warp ammo so that everyone in your squad will have warp ammo. Or you could get it as a bonus talent.

I don't think you can just ignore what class Shepard is and say which teammates are the worst combination to bring with you. For example, if I was an Adept/Sentinel, Jacob or Jack (probably not both at the same time realistically) would be a viable choice.



For a soldier, I'd skip Jacob, Jack, Garrus and Zaeed. Jacob and Jack simply doesn't have the range and their survivability will probably go down the drain considering they are shotgun users. I suppose I could equip them with pistols but thats probably no more effective than using shotguns on insanity TBH. I also wouldn't take Zaeed since I'd have no use for disruptor ammo and his inferno grenades aren't really that fantastic (probably wouldn't be a very high ranked grenade either). Garrus simply doesn't bring anything special besides good firepower (which Zaeed would be better at anyways) and nearly useless powers (overload does nothing, concussive shot would be too weak to matter).
