I have played thru the game 3 times and never reloaded during the suicide mission. Somehow I was lucky enough to not lose a single person all 3 times thru.

My first playthrough I lost Jack, Legion, and Grunt (and the Normandy crew). On a different character I saved them all. Now I'm working on a character where I'm going to do my best to kill off everyone but Shepard (or as close as possible without killing Shepard). I'll import and play all of them in ME3 just to see the differences if nothing else.

I finished my first playthrough with only 4 saves, each one of them at the start of the "big" events in the game and never reloaded, just accepting what happened. As for the end, I managed to save everyone but Mordin, took to long on the boss. I thought that taking the two tactical assault teammates (Garrus and Jacob) was the right move to face the boss, thinking I would need the strength to overpower it. Never would have thought I needed to take the techies.

I saved everyone on my first playthrough with no hints, spoilers, or any clue what I'd be facing. I made all my decisions based purely on roleplaying considerations and sweat bullets the entire time.



It was only after I beat it that I visited this forum for the first time and saw with horror all the different ways it could have gone wrong.

No spoilers for the collector base. (Though I was scared as hell picking people for the job. Sending them on solo and team missions sans me...)
Made sure everyone was loyal the very second I looked on my personal terminal (This is a Bioware game, getting the other characters to like you is sort of a re-occurring theme)

The ending had me shouting when Tali was slipping off the platform. "Shepard you son of a ****, catch her!"
