this is the type of person i really can't stand... "If I'm going to be playing this for hours on end I might as well be looking at something pretty" is just a lame excuse. if that's what you're interested in, watch some porn or something. what's the point of using the game like that?

Who says it's the point?  That'd be nobody.  Notice that "might as well"?  Obviously the point is playing the game, and some simply find it preferable to look at a female form while doing so for 20 to 40 hours.  IOW:

Some people are secure enough in their masculinity to feel that playing as a female character does not compromise their gender identity. :P

so you're saying being secure in your masculinity means seeking ways to be more feminine? just trying to understand your logic so i know what it means when i personally have no interest in pretending to be transgender...

This is a one way ticket to a bona fide e-argument, but: It has nothing to do with seeking ways to be more feminine. It's simply a matter of not being bothered. Passive. There's no deliberate gender bending going on. The weird stigma you have around playing the opposite gender is baseless.

so when you're creating a character you don't actively choose female over male? cuz i'm fairly certain male is the default option. just sayin, it's not as passive as you suggest

You misunderstand. It's not the decision to make a male or female that's passive, it's just that picking female isn't some sort of reaching out to get in touch with one's feminine side.

I mostly play as FemShep,

Because I like Jennifer Hale's voice acting

I'm a guy,

My gender and sexuallity remain intact... so far....

I've played ME1 about 8 plathroughs and ME2 twice. All of those were malesheps.Honestly,Inever thought I 'd do a femshep.I find the voice acting in both MEs to be outstanding.Soooooo,I just finished a femshep for ME1 and started her on ME2.Jen Hales version of Shepherd is great.

I played through ME1 for the first time about a week ago, and I am roughly 75% through my first ME2 game judging by my friends' comments. I haven't noticed a problem with Meer's Shepard and I tend to be pretty picky about voice acting in games. He sounds like the character should.

i just don't understand the appeal in pretending to be the opposite gender in a game unless it's to experience different options. the only different options you get between genders in ME2 are romance options, and you don't get extra achievements for different romance subplots. so i really don't get, beyond wanting to roleplay as a woman or the more shallow and hence worse reason being "She's purrty," why guys are so intent on playing female characters in games? i mean, even in MMO's a big reason is because male players are more generous or helpful to female characters. there's a social/beneficial intention there. but when it's a single player game there's just so few logical reasons for it

Femshep all the way. As far as I'm concerned, canon Shepard is female. At least to me.

Yeah, I've played Male Shepards too, but prefer Femshep on pretty much every level.

Normally I play female, but the male romance choice pushed me male more often, plus I can get pretty close to ho I actually look as a man, which most games fail at.

It'd have been nice if I could have made a sidekick with the editor to take care of my need to see something else I created in game.

exactly... though I'm annoyed that Maleshep has by far the more interesting LIs in ME2... actually in ME1 as well, since Kaidan is just a fruit... hate that guy, he won't get my Femshep! :?
Why the hell did they cut the f/f Tali romance?! This makes me mad! Also Jack would make a good lesbian I think... :D

But at least they could've given her some non-clichee-softie HUMAN love interest, since Kaidan is the only Human LI for Femshep and as I said, he's a fruit... just hate that guy... more even than I hated Carth in KotOR... :pinched:

She does get Jacob too though he is very cliched as well... Dunno bout Tali and Jack... Jack would of been really REALLY cliche/stereotype as a lesbian. and I can't romance Tali even as a male... not a Tali-hater she's poss my fave squadmate but I always saw her as more of a little sister type character... maybe I'm too in touch with my feminine side after all! lol

Some guys like to play females because it gives them something nice to look at.

What's the point of critizing other people for the way they chose to play their game?  You don't care for it - don't do it.  But when you go out of your way to call it ''lame'' when it doesn't effect you at all...

Ah yes, logic. 'Cause that's obviously why people play video games at all: as an exercise in pure reason.

oh everything about the appeal of video games is logical, actually. people play them for the instant gratification. it has little to no benefit towards our real lives, but offers plenty of satisfaction for the sake of entertainment. there's a solid, factual reason why people enjoy video games. i'm just curious as to what logic lies behind transgender play

I grew up playing tomb raider, I haz bin ghey?

I grew up playing metal gear solid, I haz bin ghey?

The answer is it doesn't matter gender and sexual preference make as much difference to enjoyment of a game as this post is going too!

seriously guys, the OP asked a perfefectly fine question lets not get his thread locked through petty sudo-bigotry m'kay?

Seems to be a secret forum war going on, over who does better VO work for male/female shep. As far as that is concerned, I think meer does a way better job personally. I tried a female shep once to see if much of anything was different, and there was a tad, but nothing huge. Hales VO work just did not sit well with me at all for some reason, and it made it fairly painful to playthrough the game as the girl shep for me.

Miow44... I don't consider "gtfo" to be a statement grownups make. So far this thread has been civil, I don't want you to derail it. Can you please cut down the aggression?
