I'm going to go out on a limb here with this theory, but what the hell.

Itc ould be that most of the people here playing femSheps, including me, are sick of always having a male protagonist in movies and games that saves the day/the universe.
I mean, how many good movies are there where a strong female is the protagonist ? Apart from the "Alien" Series and "Terminator" i'm not seeing that many.
Alright, there is the "Resident Evil" Movies, but while I like Milla Jovovich in "The 5th Element" i'm not all that sure of RE.

For me, the ME games are somewhat of a turning point: Games where a female protagonist can kick some ass and at the same time show a lot of emotion through a very good choice for a VA.
Dragon Age in that respect was somewhat of a disappointment for me though.
There were so many good VA's in there, but our protagonist was as talkative as the walking neon hack that Half-Life 1 & 2 had as a protagonist.

What?  The rage is female protagonists now.  Jojovavich (sp?), Jolie, the hot chick from all the underworld movies, are all lead protagonists in impossibly physical leading roles.  Sick of male protagonists?  Sheesh.
The audience (guys mostly) want to see T-n-A or macho men that they can imagine as themselves (Bourne).

Fact:  action movies (and games) are male-focused and male predominant. ALways has been this way.  You want to find where the girls are in computer "games"?  Go to Secondlife or those virtual family games where the object is to (holy ****e) MOW THE LAWN, do dishes, date, go out dancing, etc, THAT is where you find the ladies.  This being the case, that guys are the predominant  audience, they are catered to.  THAT is why when female lead roles in action movies or games are created, they are superbabes with perfect ta-tas, tight butt, narrow waist, etc.  Eye candy.  WHen the lead is male, it is intended to give the guys a tough alterego.  There is no appreciable female audience (there are some, sure, but they are heavily outnumbered by the guys).

I still say that femshep is fine in this game but...just as the game changes subtley depending on whether you are a paragon or renegade (or mix) player, just as it alters ever so subtley depending on previous game decisions, the game should also be slightly different for femsheps vs malesheps.  A "real" femshep is NOT going to be macho, strong, physical, the way a "real" maleshep would be.  Their approaches, their means of getting their way, would be different and both enhanced and limited by their inherent physical limitations.

The game would be more interesting and realistic with slightly different outcomes and actions depending on whether fem or male is the shep.

Hate to break this to you, but games are not made to be realistic, at least not games from the ME Franchise.

Want to play something "realistic" ? Go play CoD or something !

In the first game the soldier femShep has a different body constitution than the vanguard femShep, that have a diferent constitution than the Adept/Sentinel/Engineer femShep.

And their breats size change too, the female Soldier in the first game has a different size from the Sentinel, for example.
The same goes for maleShep, BTW, you can see that the male soldier is more larger than a engineer one.

That's....simply not true. You can see it's not true on the character creation screen.

Sure there wasn't difference between breast sizes in ME1

See the difference between Shepard and Tali?

This is the soldier heavy

and the Soldier medium

On the other hand, in ME2 all of them are the same size and form

I tested a femShep, but I didn't really connect with the character. And I kind of agree that Meer's VA work was only ok at the beginning, but he shapes up later to make a fantastic job.

This. Meer was ok in ME1 but in ME2 he was much better.

MaleShep, definitely. I'm a dude and I just can't identify with a woman. Plus, I think Mark Meer's VA is great.

Personally so long as BOTH options are in the game, and there are a relatively equal amount of options for both, thats all I'm concerned with. I'll admit, I'm pretty sure the story is more setup for a Male Shep, but I've played as a Fem Shep several times in both ME1 and ME2 and I'm a dude (and completely heterosexual), if anything most of my Fem Sheps are hot as hell and I'd love to get with 'em... especially since they usually kick a lot of ass :)

Just make it relatively fair and balanced for both, its all I care about. I mean if it really came down to FORCING the game to only have 1, I'd say Male Shep, but I'd prefer there were both options, as playing a Fem Shep for some reason makes my following playthroughs seem unique and different despite virtually 90% of the conversations and actions going the same way, lol.

One could also say that the Combat Hardsuits are augmenting the muscular power of the wearer.
Also, there is technologies that can weave artifical muscle-enhancing fibres into the human muscles.

Where have you been man? In gaming there's a ****load of female protagonist, most of them strong independent women.

Metroid franchise, most Resident evil games, Dino crisis, Tomb raider, Final fantasy XIII, Heavenly sword, Perfect dark, Heavy rain and the list goes on and on.

I support Male shep BTW, if given the chance i'd like to experience this kind of games as a male, especially if that game has a romance option.

Yeah i don't like men so i don't play as the girl

Of course there are more than I mentioned but still, most games put a guy to "work" to save the day.

Yeah, theres a reason for that. Probably about 85% of gamers are males.  You shouldn't, complain because there is a fair few games with a kickass female protagonist.

I've played 6 playthroughs, 3 ManShep and 3 FemShep (1 in both ME1 and ME2, and the rest only in ME2). I think it makes up two different experiences, even though the game is largely the same; I started with ManShep first, and eventually tried FemShep (and Jennifer Hale rocks so much).

But ManShep will always have a special place in my heart. Go Juan Carlos!

Or does not playing Female Shepard mean  you are too insecure to play a female, and on the reverse side - are you implying that a female who plays male Shepard wants to be a guy.  To me, that is a silly reaction.  It's a role playing video game.

I'm female.  I play both.  I prefer Fem Shepard because I like playing a female, but I also like playing most of the options available so I play Sam Shepard as well as Samantha Shepard.  As much as I like playing a female, I'm very glad BW gives us the choice.

I play both equally because although role playing might be part of the name of the genre it's a hybrid of it's not really what I do in most my video games. I tend to look at them more as I'm writing and directing a movie as opposed to I am male/female Shep. I control the action and the dialogue but I am NOT the characters. So gender plays no major role for me, it's just a different avenue from which to direct my movie.

I play a Male Shep, always do play a male character when given the option to do so. Simply because I have to be able to "relate" to the character in order for me to play it. And seeing as how Im a guy, I can relate more easily when the character I play is male as well.

Jeez, why not "I support MANShep", I didn't use maleshep, because not only should he be a male, he should be a "MAN." I have no problem with people playing as chicks (not bad if you are actually one, really creepy if you're not), but the OP clearly has a bias towards MANShep. Why even ask if you like MaleShep vs FemShep?, if half the post is "I support FemShep" "and "Now with115 signatures for FemShep"??

I'm male so i should play as and only a male, playing as a female when you your self are a male sounds kinda weird, do females play as maleshep? most don't (not more then once) why should we?

I think alot of guys like playing femshep because they project their (perhaps conscious, perhaps subconscious)
desire for a strong/powerful/independent female partner onto the avatar. I think that's probably what I do, and why I'll probably play FemHawke too.

Given that his face is plastered throughout marketing and given that we only every get to see new pics of ManShep armor (and not FemShep) and given that more dev time is spent making the ManShep gamng experience as good as possible (to the detriment of the FemShep gaming experience) I honestly don't think ManShep needs community members to 'support him' given that BW treats him a-o-kay already.

Alright, I want to have a dig at this viewpoint. It comes up a lot, and frankly, it's kind of offensive.

I could equally approach your choice of character and say that I have no desire to live out an egocentric fantasy with a pretend version of myself in a videogame. This really isn't any different that you implying I have some sort of gender-change fantasy when playing as a female.

Not everyone projects their personal self into a videogame. Some people are vicarious, others are voyeuristic, so to speak. I play a female Shepard because I think she makes for a more compelling character in the context of the narrative (and, y'know, Jennifer Hale is friggin awesome). That's just my opinion.

So how about we leave this juvenile notion of "pretending to be a female" behind?

My main character is a male (more playthroughs with him), the second one female.
