And, well, the less said about the contagious male Con Shuffle 'dancing,' the better.
Both M and FemShep got shafted on the dancing this time, what with them both acting like a kid at a school dance for the first time with no clue what to do beyond some halfhearted twitching and a bit of head-nodding to the beat. Sure, MShep's not as silly now, but also lacks the sheer ridiculous charm of his admittedly sad ME1 moves, and FemShep wasn't actually half-bad pre-death. Just like old times, my ass.
MaleShep or FemShep? (Now with 115 FemShep signatures!)

I thought it was evidence of time better spent training instead of learning to dance.
How does more time spent training make someone a worse dancer? For that matter, how do you spend more time training when you're dead?

I have nothing against MaleShep, but the voice acting sounds a little monotone to me. Maybe one day I will play as MaleShep but for now I'm just not interested.

I play as a female Shepard, simply because I find the voice work to be far superior. The male Shepard's voice just seems very flat and monotone by comparison.
I tried playing a male Shepard once. Couldn't stand the voice for some reason and abandoned that character before even reaching the Citadel. It's been all FemSheps since then.

No, unless you have a knack for it you start off a poor dancer and you just never develop the talent.didymos1120 wrote...

I usually play Femsheps.. well this may sound cliche but... I rather stare 30hrs at the back of a woman than stare at that of a man.
If that were the reason you'd just bring female squad members and look at them to get your digital fetish fix. Isn't that what Miranda is for? I played tomb raider, resident evil 3, etc. without any problems. Why do guys who play female characters by choice have to promote their masculinity with the "I like the view" line? Are you really that insecure? I highly doubt anyone is honestly oogling a video game character throughout 100's of hours of gameplay.
I only play as a male because a female being the greatest warrior that humanity has is laughable. Especially when you see all these scrawny soccer mom looking femsheps people make. At least make them look like butch marine dykes and not the ladies who sell perfume at the mall. Hehehe...

How does that follow? You control Shepard. Therefore, you spend the vast majority of your time watching Shepard. Try walking around and accomplishing much of anything while focusing on Miranda or Ash or whoever.
Also, assuming for the moment that the why-don't-you-just-stare-at-squadmates suggestion was actually a playable one, another logic error rears its head: if one truly were looking for that digital fetish fix, wouldn't having a female Shep and female squaddies be even better? That's three digital asses instead of two. That has to be better, right?
I think she's there to be a part of the story too. That may even be her primary purpose. Also, I'll let you in on a secret: not everyone likes Miranda. Some of those people are male. But you didn't hear it from me, and I'll deny it if anyone shows up and starts asking questions.Isn't that what Miranda is for?
OK. Not sure how that's relevant, though. You can't choose to be anything other than female in those.I played tomb raider, resident evil 3, etc. without any problems.
Why do guys who play female characters by choice have to promote their masculinity with the "I like the view" line?
Uh, they don't? I'm a guy. I prefer FemShep, for reasons that have nothing to do with the view. That said, the view doesn't hurt, either. Given that, and what we know about male sexuality and its highly cordial relationship with the visual system, it's not that hard to imagine that some guys really just do prefer staring at the hindquarters of a virtual female when given a choice in the matter.
Ufoflieger specifically? No idea. Me? No. Some guys? Yeah, probably. Most guys? Doubtful. Are you really that insecure?
I highly doubt anyone is honestly oogling a video game character throughout 100's of hours of gameplay.
Again, no reason to assume ogling's got anything to do with it, whatever the game length. All it has to be is preferable. Which is surprisingly often the case with straight males. Preferring the female form to the male, that is.
Is that supposed to be a better reason than "I'd rather look at a girl"?I only play as a male because a female being the greatest warrior that humanity has is laughable.
Especially when you see all these scrawny soccer mom looking femsheps people make. At least make them look like butch marine dykes and not the ladies who sell perfume at the mall. Hehehe...
Kinda hard to do when you have zero control over the body models. Also, given the whole prefer-looking-at-virtual-girls thing at issue here, don't you think that's probably just about the last thing (next to a dude of course) these guys would want their character to look like? Also: you do realize that there are some rather petite women in the military, and some of them are marines? I've also spotted non-miniscule women working perfume counters now and again, so there's that too.

Absolutely. Because we can create decent FemSheps ourselves we all have different ones. But due to the fact that all created MaleSheps look like they have been soundly beaten by the ugly stick, most people seem to use the default model. Personally I believe this is a cunning plan by BW to make 'their' Shepard ubiquitous! Darn you BW!!!

Been wondering about the data mining that BW/EA (and others) infect their games with... but that's another thread.
Although BW has done their best to mono-gender the dialogue, this poll should raise at least one eyebrow. At least it did for me.

LOL...Let's just say that I've never been interested is playing any game as a female character. It just does not draw me in. I'm secure enough in my masculinity to say that I have no interest in being anything other than a man. Also, real bums are waaaaay nicer than computer graphics...

I didn't expect FemShep to be that popular. Maybe it can persuade BW to give FemShep's animations some more attention.

I want to get the best gaming experience for my money and for me that is delivered in Mass Effect 1 and 2 by playing as a female Shepard. This is because I don't like the male Shepard's voice and find it breaks immersion for me.Mlow44 wrote...
sorry, an immature response to an immature comment. unfortunately i'm not above dropping down to my instigator's level of maturity when provoked. my intent otherwise is to get a general consensus (insert Legion reference here) as to why so many guys (the majority, according to the poll) like to play femshep
Yes it can get a little weird on the romance options but I consider it like acting. When I portray a gay character in a play it doesn't mean I am, or have any desire, to be gay. Rather it is a role I am taking on for that time.
I hope that makes some sense to people.

Mostly becouse of the voice. But as characters I really like the strong women type (Ripley, Sarah Connor just to stay on classics). As a commando or soldier the male hero is just a bit too archetypical and standard. Almost required

I really like the voice too, as I said in another thread yeah it can sound flat at times but I really think that's how Shepard is suppose to be, a man who doesn't show emotion often and when he does it's not extreme.
I'm a big fan of Hale's work as Naomi in the MGS games, but I personally think Female Shepard sounds a bit too "butch" which isn't necessarily a bad thing, however I think Female Shepard would have been a lot better off with Hale's Naomi voice.
But that's just me.
