exactly... though I'm annoyed that Maleshep has by far the more interesting LIs in ME2... actually in ME1 as well, since Kaidan is just a fruit... hate that guy, he won't get my Femshep! :?
Why the hell did they cut the f/f Tali romance?! This makes me mad! Also Jack would make a good lesbian I think... :D

But at least they could've given her some non-clichee-softie HUMAN love interest, since Kaidan is the only Human LI for Femshep and as I said, he's a fruit... just hate that guy... more even than I hated Carth in KotOR... :pinched:

She does get Jacob too though he is very cliched as well... Dunno bout Tali and Jack... Jack would of been really REALLY cliche/stereotype as a lesbian. and I can't romance Tali even as a male... not a Tali-hater she's poss my fave squadmate but I always saw her as more of a little sister type character... maybe I'm too in touch with my feminine side after all! lol

oh right, forgot about Jacob, probably because he is the most shallow character of both ME games, plus he looks like that disgusting rapper... terrible, I would never have my Femshep romance that dude... which brings us back to the question I remember another thread asking: why can't BW make a non-cliché black man?

Femshep all the way. As far as I'm concerned, canon Shepard is female. At least to me.

Yeah, I've played Male Shepards too, but prefer Femshep on pretty much every level.

same here...

I almost invariably play FemShep. Finally I got around to doing a straight up, full through ME1 and 2 play of ManShep after my friend ****ed at me to do it. It was definitely fun seeing it from the other side, but I like Hale's acting much more. I agree that Meer does get better as you progress; there are even some lines where he actually acts! Like if you comfort Tali at that one part of her loyalty quest where she finds out something bad, he genuinely sounds concerned. Very refreshing from his usual monotone.

And yeah, I'm a guy. I've been roleplaying for eight or nine years, and I'm definitely way beyond feeling uncomfortable playing a female part. It's like acting, you just pretend and have fun with it.

QFT.

Some people are secure enough in their masculinity to feel that playing as a female character does not compromise their gender identity. :P

so you're saying being secure in your masculinity means seeking ways to be more feminine? just trying to understand your logic so i know what it means when i personally have no interest in pretending to be transgender...

stupidest thing I have ever read concerning this discussion... seriously, GROW UP!

Mlow44 wrote...

this is the type of person i really can't stand... "If I'm going to be playing this for hours on end I might as well be looking at something pretty" is just a lame excuse. if that's what you're interested in, watch some porn or something. what's the point of using the game like that?

and again, the pr0n argument... exactly how is wanting to look at something/someone pretty similar to watching pr0n? Last I "checked" (;)) pr0n was about basic human "drives" (lust).
I don't know about you, but when I see a pretty girl, lust is not the first thing that takes over my mind, so who's the perv here? :innocent:

I say Female Sheperd for two reasons.

A) The voice acting was much more emotional and better.
B) It's much cooler when a strong confident women saves the galaxy.

Just think of it like this.
Would Aliens(2) have been as cool if Ripley was a man?
Would the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya be as good if Haruhi was just a grumpy teenage guy? (Yes I know Kyon plays that role but it's different)
Would Serenity/Firefly have been as good if River was a bad ass guy?

P.S I know my name makes it obvious. But I am a guy I just sometimes play female characters.

Well those are the men that are so scared of a man being friends with a woman that they squeal and screach when a man in a pink shirt even comes near them.

Also, reading back I saw Roleplaying mentioned. I have never roleplayed a Female character. That is not because it would be weird or that I would find it 'Transgender' It's because I don't feel I could play a woman correctly because I don't know what they would say in some situations.
In video games I am guided a little as the female character or they are more a neutral female role.

So now that there is confirmation of femshep being very strong choice does that mean she can get a least some marketting for ME3?

I would support that, especially since I think that marketing Shepard as a male fashion model is pretty ludicrous... :innocent:

lol I never thought of it that way. I know exactly where you coming from with it!  Although I quite like the Maleshep model and I can see why they marketed ME around him.  They have tried to create a recognisable protagonist, like for example, Marcus Fenix of Gears.   Everyone recognises Gears instantly because of the default character and can associate with it.    Bioware have done the same thing with Maleshep.    To be honest most people can understand why it has been marketed the way it has

Major problem is that this strategy is flawed for an RPG as you dont have a set default character like Marcus. So yes MEs marketing strategy works well to a degree, except your assuming everyone plays as default maleshep. Well
#1:   Not everyone plays as default
#2:   Not everyone plays as Male

Also anyone who has played the game knows of customisation of your character and choice of gender.   In fact the die hard fans love the game as they can create who they want to create.

It fustrated me that for ME1 at least there was very minor marketing of femshep (to let people know).  Yet for ME2 there was absolutely none.   In fact I think 3 screenshots were released about a week before release and that was it.

For the  fans who play a specific way default sheps marketing only scratches the surface.   I didnt know what to expect of MY character untill I heard Jennifer's voice in game.   To me femshep is Mass Effect and I would love to a tiny bit more of her for the run on ME3.  Im not asking for Bioware to change their strategy but to at least recognise fans dont follow the way they want and to cater for us with a couple of teasers even if only on the forums

Plus Jennifer Hale deserves some recognition!

I assume that BW expected to see more male Shepards in ME2 now that it emphasizes the shooter elements more. That and for the continuity of their marketing I guess they'll stick with MaleShep. But I think it wouldn't be bad for the series if they showed off FemShep some more. Still, I am not sure what I as a consumer gain by that. I rather wish that BW would give FemShep some more attention in-game. The focus on MaleShep in their marketing campaign certainly didn't stop players from playing as FemShep characters. ;)

Actually Bioware can get a real detail about how popular to play female or male Shepard only with ask the importable me2 characters through the cerberus network (when it gives you the funny news :D )

I would really like to see such data since the forum polls are always non-representative and minority, but that way the devs would get actual data about how the most players sees Shepard (male/female, paragon/renegade, who romanced etc.)

For the continuity of course the male Shepard will be the main figurehead. It was even in the first game. But now they just totally ignored the fact that Shepard can be female too. And that was unfair :( Unfair to all that work the devs, the actors and everyone else put into the option for femShep. And of course to the femShep fans :)

Even if this poll is off, it shows me that a lot of people do like to play as FemShep. I think we can safely assume that they are not a small minority. I think that MaleShep players are a minority.

I'm straight male and I have 1 Hero FemShep (Liara faithful), one FemShep that I use to mess around with things (had to get that Paramour Achievement somehow...) and I created two MaleSheps from ME1- one to continue his relationship with Liara- the other to ditch Ash for Jack or Tali.

The voice acting was always a part of it for me. Hale is better, some cringeworthy lines, but not the flat emotionless wreck that is Meer- although he has his moments in ME2.

I also love strong female characters. Who wasn't attracted to Ripley back in the day? Or when Sarah Connor (the original) was kicking ask and taking names?

I mostly like female Shepard when she doesn't do the G.I. Jane voice and instead reverts to the cartoon voice or something resembling human (such as at the Dark Star or having conversations with the people she knows)

I've seen what kind of males play female characters in games like Elder Scrolls Oblivion and Fallout 3. Nude mods, xXx animation changers... Instead of doing quests they spend their time skinny dipping their naked female character in lake rumare. Sad!

All (insert target group) are (insert adjective). Good luck with your ignorance.

I play XBOX 360 exclusively so no mods, my one character in Oblivion (250+hours) is male and I've never played Fallout 3.
Besides, if you want nudie games, look no further than Illusion, every guy knows that. ^_^

I <3 you FemShep!

Hey I'm a dude and I'm not ashamed to say (over the internet and to people I don't know) that i got the nude Zoey mod for left 4 dead and would still have it if I didn't have to uninstall steam.

But I play female characters because it's cool to see how the designers have made the female side of the game and if it is any different to the male side.

Which they did a better job of in Dragon Age Rather than Mass Effect 1 & 2

I rock both. I prefer Femshep though. As mentioned many times already, because Hale nailed the character (both actually, Renegade and Paragon) where as Meer is only high quality as a pure renegade.

Also, Mass Effect doesn't suffer that "Why are YOU a girl" problem. Since I look at the game as an experience more from the point of a Director, than the actual first-person experience of say, Fallout or Dragon Age. I guess you could say I enjoy watching women (Female in Mass Effect[s]) but I enjoy being a man(Male in Dragon Age, Fallout)

This forum is not a cross section by any means, of Mass Effect 1 or 2 players. The Vast majority of gamers go unrepresented here. Another thing many people don't understand about when certain features that seem overwhelmingly supported by the forum, that get axed. Because the other 90% of gamers aren't on these forums expressing their opinion.

Edit: I wonder if you read my comments at all. It seems I need to repeat myself after all:

I know... There aren't enough respondents for the votes to be significant, not scientific, etc. At least it gives a rough indication. Maybe enough for BioWare to start a proper survey to see if FemShep needs some extra loving from the devs. ;)

So I am aware of the problems you mention.
