Am I the only one who has little to no interest in the final battle with the Reapers? I can't wait to find out what my old squadmates are up to, if the quarians and the geth can find a way to coexist, and whether the krogan species can be saved. But I don't care about the Reapers. I suspect it's because I never felt the personal, visceral hatred for them that I developed for Saren. I know they'll be defeated; the only question is how. As for saving the galaxy...I can care about Wrex, Miranda, and Garrus. It's a lot harder to care about faceless trillions. So, I'm essentially buying the game for the subplots.

I never cared about Saren, but I find the Reapers interesting. I am a unique and special snowflake.

I think the human-reaper at the end killed it for me. They suddenly became slightly less epic after that fight for me. I remember being like ZOMG when you're fighting up Citadel tower, with Sovereign's finger/tentacles crashing down every now and then. But when I blew up the human-reaper I was like lolwut.
Also, it is hard to care about those colonists who were abducted, since we never get to really find out about any of them. We only visit two colonies who are victim anyway, and hear about a bunch of others by overhearing crew chat. If that were somehow made more visceral--I don't know how, that's why I don't make games--I think I would have been more motivated to finish the game.
But, in defense of the trilogy, since ME2 is the bridge between opening and ending, they were kind of prevented from advancing the story too much. That is why the focus was on individual characters.

I think Bioware created an amazing set of antagonists. Saren was pretty cool, rouge, honorable but misguided, and really a total badass. Also the reapers are quite interesting, especially since we know how they are made now, i want to find out what other species were used in the gooification process. I can't wait to see what they have in store for us when the Reapers come out in ME3.

Yea, you've got it down perfectly. The Reapers are impersonal, they are doing things for reasons thatjtav wrote...
I suspect it's because I never felt the personal, visceral hatred for them that I developed for Saren.
a) We don't know.
c) We may not understand.
d) We may never understand.
e) I personally don't actively care about.
Whereas Saren is the villain with a purpose, a face, and charisma. It's much easier to be excited about stopping Saren than stopping the Reapers. The Reapers are that annoying fly or bug, Saren is your archenemy, your nemesis, your rival.
I guess you could say that we know intuitively, though not definitely, that we will stop the reapers or at least wound them. So already part of the mystery is gone. But what about the characters, what will happen to them and how? So basically I share your sentiment....I can care about Wrex, Miranda, and Garrus. It's a lot harder to care about faceless trillions. So, I'm essentially buying the game for the subplots.
