Wishful Thinking?.. Could There Be Multiple Saves of Different Games?

One thing that really pissed me off about Dragon Age: Origins was that I could not have multiple saves of more than one game. What if I wanted to play as a rogue and mage off and on... What if I play as a rogue, and I am curious about being a warrior. I have to overwrite my rogue to make a warrior... and then if I hate it, I get stuck with having to replay my entire rogue game over again to the point I was at.

It was a really crappy position. I had that issue. I was a mage... I wanted to be able to pick locks myself... so I created a rogue. I quickly got sick of playing a rogue. I had to replay a crapload of game to get my mage back to where I had already gotten to. I was highly irritated.

Does anyone think that might change for the expansion pack or the sequel. I can live with it not being available... just pisses me off sometimes.

I really can't picture myself going into Awakening without my mage anyway... If you cannot be some sort of Spirit Healer in Awakening, I fear I will be doomed to death constantly unless I play on easy. I don't play on easy, so I think I will have to make sure I have my Spirit Healer mage. I have gone off topic greatly at this point, I think I will stop typing now.

What?

You can make multiple saves of different characters. I have 6. On console it says "press Y or X forgot, for different characters". I am pretty sure you can on PC as well.

It seems a lot of people thought this to, is the switch character button really that hard to see?

I'm not sure what you mean. Whenever I start a new character, it doesn't overwrite my old one. Like when you said that you wanted to try rogue, hated it, then had to replay a lot with your mage again. I don't understand how that would happen. Usually, starting a rogue would start up a completely new character whose saves are separate from all other characters.

So it should have happened like this.

1) Played as mage.

2) Wanted to pick locks, started a new character as rouge.

3) Hated that so went back to previous character by selecting other careers.

From what I can guess, you may have not seen the other careers button. Please excuse me if I'm wrong.

I play on the PS3, and I don't remember an option for this. I feel questionable whether I want to even test this theory because I don't want to lose my current game. As soon as I press new game, it overwrites all my old stuff. I cannot go back to the old game. I don't really want to run the risk of losing my game just to be absolutely sure this is correct though.

Is there anyone else with the PS3 version that can confirm any of this?

EDIT: There wasn't any option for changing careers for me either. I don't recall any buttons to switch saves for different created characters.

PS: as for switching characters, in some areas, you can only be your own character... if you aren't a rogue, you won't be able to pick the locks there. I wanted to replace Leliana with my own character, but mage is much easier to play with at higher difficulty levels. I had to keep playing on easy as a rogue.

EDIT #2: When I went into Load Game... there was no "press square to switch character files" when I checked before... I'll think about trying again later... just don't want to risk losing my saved game yet... but I will think about it heavily.

Yes, I have multiple characters on PS3. When you go to the Load Game, hit the square button. It should say " [ ] Switch Character " at the bottom. It might not if you have been deleting your other characters and only have one, though.

When you hit it, a list of your characters comes up, you pick the one you want then a list of saves for that character shows.

LoL, trust me Zevais...and if you're not sure, check your Saved Data Utility (PS3) on the xmb menu...

if you have several characters saves, you should be able to access it by pressing square in the Load Game screen...

If you're talking about for example playing a Human Noble as a Warrior, then yes those locked chests and doors can't be access (in any case, there are no worthwhile items in locked chests in situation where your character is alone). It is just a fix gameplay, like Rogue have advantage of earning experience through unlocking and disarming traps.

But i'm sure you know you can switch between party members using L1 and R1. And there is no such things as career in DAO PS3, only "switch characters" in load file.

Actually... you can only complete the entirety of Crime Wave in Denerim if you are a rogue. You need Stealing AND Stealth... if you are anything besides rogue... you can only attain the Stealing related quests. That is one of my main additional reasons to think about doing a rogue playthrough... I really don't think I am going to survive the Circle Tower when the Sloth Demon puts me in the fade... I relied heavily on my mage spamming powers. Spirit form's regeneration sucked balls... and I didn't have enough health poutices yet. I hate having to go into easy mode to survive.

When you start a new game, it starts an entirely new save game for that character that doesn't overwrite your old characters.  You can have save games for up to 10 characters.  If you've been creating different characters without deleting any save files, then your old characters should still be there even now.

Like others have said, when you start the game click on "load save", and there you will see the list of saves from the last character you were playing.  Click square, and the screen will switch to a list of your characters.  Click "x" on whichever character you want to see the list of saves for that character.  They should all still be there.  It's not a "theory" - that's the way it is.  I promise you, the only way to lose save data is to delete the data directly from your system memory, which you can't do while playing the game.

I love that they have additional stuff only available to the Rogue class, gives me all the more reason to do a complete playthrough with that class as well as my Warrior and still have the option to go it as a Mage.

As for the difficulty, I did'nt really find it all that hard. I have been through the Mages Tower many times and for the most part it's a breeze, the Sloth himself is tough but only to the point where it costs me most of my potions ( I like to go just after Lothering). Use the Golem form as much as possible, he's a beast and the enemies have all kinds of trouble killing him.

Walkthrough

Note: The Warden needs the pickpocket or stealth skill for Slim to appear. If only the stealth skill is available, only the Burglaries will be accessible. If only the stealing ability is present, both quest lines will become available, and may be completed using companions. Thus, it's advisable to acquire a level of Stealing before talking to him for the first time, to open up these quests and their rewards

^ taken from Dragon Age wiki, so you just need 1 skill point on Steal to activate the entirety of Crime Wave quest (regardless of being a Rogue or not).

About the Fade, yes it is annoying going through it, but if you have around 30-40 poultices (any kind) you should do fine (any difficulty) + the lyrium veins are actually enough if you use em well.

Might I suggest you craft a lot of lesser health or health poultices?, it is cheaper...

Maybe its a glitch... but I have never been able to do the stealth related quests in any of my Mage playthroughs. I equip one stealing skill, and all I get is the stealing related quests in Crime Wave. I have done 3 mage playthroughs, so I know this to be true each time.

Anyway, here is how I usually do my playthrough... Lothering, Circle, Arl, go to Denerim to obtain sidequests etc (here is when I met Slim and he gives me the "marks - crime wave", then I resume with Brecilian, Sacred Ash, Orzammar, get ready for Landsmeet and went to Denerim Slim is there again and I got the "burglary - crime wave". Slim always disappear after you completed one branch of Crime Wave, then after a while will reappear again to offer you the other branch,

I've done both lines of quests on my warrior. Could be you have to pick just the right dialog options to get them.
