i was hoping i wouldnt actually have to explain elementary school level social politeness over the internet but i guess it couldnt be avoided.

at first i thought this was a joke, but i actually think some of you guys are serious

You do know that what is considered "social polite" can be different depending on the culture you're in and that not everyone in this forum is living in the same district?

For example: I had to learn it the hard way that asking "Have you gained weight?" is equivalent to saying "You are fat and i don't like you" in some parts of america, while here in Germany its just normal question you throw in into your smalltalk ;)

I really fail to see whats so bad about asking someone why he is green. It would probably be impolite if shepard had made a bad joke involving the incredible hulk...

you would never say that to someone face to face unless you really knew that person for a while, or if something is wrong with you.

She mindfraked Shepard, that's close enough to ask her anything.

I get what Amethyst Deceiver is saying. Lets make it abundantly clear

Your friend has an obvious butt plug sticking out. Do you ask
i) Hey, why do you look like you got a butt plug sticking out your ass?
or
ii) Are you ok? You look a bit unwell.
or
iii) Oh look at the time! See you later!

Edit: Also for differing cultures, always stick with the most worthless topics until you get an idea of what is acceptable and not acceptable in the country.

fair enough. this is the only legitimate post in this entire thread that i can actually take seriously.

the cultural difference thing is a fair point.

where i grew up in america it would be considered rude to ask someone, "why is your face orange?" when they have obviously applied too much fake-tan cream.

or if someone was really ill and their face is 10 shades paler than normal it would be considered rude to ask them why are they pale, but instead you would probably ask if they were feeling ok. big difference

Actually, why is she green? I thought that would be kinda awkward to start with that question, and it just disappeared later.

Health problems because of the Thorian. Her skin turned green, her biotics are unstable and she has nightmares about her time with the Thorian.

In those situations, yes, it would be a bit rude. But in this case the cause is not obvious, probably not embarrassing, and she seems fine otherwise. Plus Shepard saved her life and they did that mind merge thing, so they aren't exactly strangers.

She never said. Thats why she was on Ilium trying to change the contract so her and the colonists could get help without other procedures being performed on them. If she is in ME3 I hope she is cured and that maybe we get to return to Feros to see the rebuilt colony.

I do not understand why anyone would think it is awkard. If I was really green I would be more shocked if everyone I knew did not ask me why I was green. I mean come on it is not like Shepard just walked up to some random stranger and said hey person I have never meet why are you green?

Now that I did ask about, for some reason, couldn't resist. Tali's exasperated reaction was worth it.

You know, if there's one thing I learned from reading this thread, it's this.

It's not easy being green.

That seems like a perfectly legitiment question to ask.

That was actually the first thing I wanted to ask.

It's not like she has some little cut on her face. She's green.

GREEN

She's also talking like someone under the Thorian's control.

Creepy.

Hey, don't say it like that! I talk to people, you know! Ask them if they have any big problems that only I can solve! You'd be surprised how many people are just waiting for someone to talk to them!

Planescape Torment:

I'll bet ye've got all sorts o' barmy questions! (She mimics your heroic stance)
Greetin's, I have some questions... can ye tell me about this place?
Who's the Lady o' Pain? I'm lookin' fer the magic Girdle of Swank Iron,
have ye seen it? Do ye know where a portal ta the 2,817th Plane o' the
Abyss might be? Do ye know where the Holy Flamin' Frost-Brand
Gronk-Slayin' Vorpal Hammer o' Woundin' an' Returnin' an'
Shootin'-Lightnin'-Out-Yer-Bum is?

It proves he cares.

No one ever asks Shepard how he's feeling. Maybe he had a loyalty mission of his own he wanted to do, but no one offered. :(

Exactly. Why don't they ever leave their posts and come bug Shepard for a change?! He/She must be sick of having to run around finding those jerks  (Not that they ever move) and feel lonely. Excepting the end of the romances, no one ever seems to come find you, so the message they're sending is that they only really care enough to come find you if it's going to lead to sex. What jerks.
