when the quarian goes on about her ex-boyfriend to the turian, i like to stand like 6 inches away, staring at them, turning my head back and forth between staring at the turian and then the quarian when each starts talking.

and when the quarian chick finally says "um excuse me human, private con-ver-say-she-yone" i dont move.

Well I think the whole green thing is getting this off track. Shepard does ask some very personal things of people he JUST met. Like the super racist Asari right after Shiala. Literally the 3rd thing you ask her, is how her family died. That's suuuuuper sensetive.

jup shepard can be super non social, it is full of those dialogeus in the game.
sometimes i just scratch my head in disbelieve, how could you even ask someone that?

Shiala why are you green?

That seems like a perfectly legitiment question to ask.

That was actually the first thing I wanted to ask.

you would never say that to someone face to face unless you really knew that person for a while, or if something is wrong with you.

Or perhaps you'd saved that person from a fate worse than death, and are expressing confusion/concern.

god bless the internet and its inability to translate irony and comedic undertone. and for its ability to allow people to self-incriminate

translation for the slow (since its funnier if you actually get it):

funny how in a discussion about "politeness" i decide to throw out a bone deliberately charged with very "unpolite" wording, and you people fall for it just as brainlessly and emotionally charged without any sense of logic or understanding of the broader topic. thank you. this made my day. LOL

I'd also choose a polite question. Don't know why, it's probably just me but people often misunderstand your intentions so I think "Are you OK?" is the better first question. Maybe she thinks you're making fun of her when asking "Why are you green?". You know, girls always misunderstand you in that way that they think you want to hurt them so they can be angry at you /stereotype.

Well, asking strangers loaded and personal questions is a common part of RPG genre).

If PC always acted within the common norms of social distance and only talked with strangers about weather, or strictly business, lots of interesting information about the game world and hilarios bits of dialogue would be lost. Also, most of side quests would never be gained. So, the game would be poorer and smaller because of this.

Hey, don't say it like that! I talk to people, you know! Ask them if they have any big problems that only I can solve! You'd be surprised how many people are just waiting for someone to talk to them!

Planescape Torment:

I'll bet ye've got all sorts o' barmy questions! (She mimics your heroic stance)
Greetin's, I have some questions... can ye tell me about this place?
Who's the Lady o' Pain? I'm lookin' fer the magic Girdle of Swank Iron,
have ye seen it? Do ye know where a portal ta the 2,817th Plane o' the
Abyss might be? Do ye know where the Holy Flamin' Frost-Brand
Gronk-Slayin' Vorpal Hammer o' Woundin' an' Returnin' an'
Shootin'-Lightnin'-Out-Yer-Bum is?

Hah, I just replayed Torment for a few months ago for nostalgia's sake. That is indeed one of the many, many awesome quotes from that game, and does sum up this thread quite perfectly.

Depending on which conversation option you choose Erinya will bring her family's death not Shepard. You then have to option of asking her about her family not necessarily just how they died.

Well Amethyst deceiver, it really is good for you that this is the internet since then you can make really lame covers trying to save yourself from looking like a total troll.

Saying : "Oh I was being ironic" as a way to save face (on the internet no less) is about as weak as when someone who is initially serious about an issue, is met with resistance and they go "Oh, I was just kidding".

wait. im confused.

i "covered" myself from looking like a troll?

Amethyst Deceiver wrote...

well sometimes trolling can be a useful paragade option on the "dialog wheel"

{smilie}

so does that mean i trolled in order to cover my trolling? i guess that makes sense.

irony - noun - sarcasm, satire indicate mockery of something or someone. The essential feature of irony is the indirect presentation of a contradiction between an action or expression and the context in which it occurs.

let me know if you still need help or if you need a minute to catch up.

do you need me to throw in another 'hint for the mentally challenged' to explain the relevance of that last quote?

This only works if you knew Jacob as white.  At which point, yeah, it would make sense to ask why his skin suddenly changed color dramatically.

Umm... I try to be a nice person, and I consider myself to be very polite.

However, I did not find it at all impolite to say "why are you green". I said it after she approached me for help, after she had already begun to tell me about the side effects of the Thorian enthrallment and the problem the colonists' were having.

I felt that asking her why she was green pertained to the matter we were discussing, and since she initiated that discussion and asked me for help, she opened the door for it.

"You and Miranda were together right?"
"Kelly, are you interested in aliens?"
"So tell me Samara, how does it feel to kill your own kid?"
"Excause me, I overheard you talking about security check, you want those fake IDs I have?"
"Yeah, so your kids and partner died, but you're still being a ****** - you think that they would aprove?"
"Liara, you're crazy you know that?"
"So Miranda, what kind of genetical modifications you have?"
"Thane, so you can remember absolutely every kill eh?"

...nah, Shepard is not nosy.
