I've tried to use the search to answer this question, and I've tried all the options I could think of, so I'm asking for help now. I've heard it's possible to upgrade by selling and rebuying to one vendor or another, but I've had no luck. I also heard that you could store your gear in the box at soldiers peak, then leave and come back and it would be upgraded. Again, no joy. I'd appreciate being pointed in the right direction to find an answer, or if anyone would be willing to tell me what's the way to do it. I'm playing on a PC. Thanks in advance.

On PC the storage box trick doesn't work. You can sell certain weapons to the blacksmith there and they will get upgraded. Not all of them work but most do.
The down side is they cost more money so it's kind of a loss. I've never seen a good enough reason to do it and it usually only adds some rune slots.
There should have been a lower price or something to just strictly ask for an upgrade from the blacksmith.
Imo the game gives you good enough weapons and armor and I've never noticed a good enough benefit to spend the extra money to do it.
