Not even close. Final Fantasy's Materia System is one of the best, which is merely a more developed form of the system used in Final Fantasy 2. For everything else look to Final Fantasy Six as a superior game in terms of story, exploration and 'secrets'.

2) Shepard dies and comes back to life ... wtf?
3) The council either doesn't make any damn sense or is replaced by the alliance... which also makes no sense.
4) The vehicle sections are gone without reason and so is any amount of exploration the game could have contained
5) They should have just made the vehicle sections better
6) The exploring gave the first game a sense of "tangeble bigness" where ME2 feels like a bunch of shooting galleries
7) Planet scanning replaced exploration and it's ****ing terrible
8) The inventory system is gone but the new weapon system relies on the planet scanning ... trade crap for crap...
9) Coverbased shooting elements attempt to hold up gameplay by itself and fails.
10) It's much too easy and predictable
11) The writing is solid but the delivery sucks ass
12) Instead of roleplaying and choosing your path the player is focused on what choice gives them more douchebag or **** points because the Paragon Renegade system forces you to have max points later in the game
13) The writing doesn't make up for the ****** poor gameplay

But on the point of original post - there are at least 3 hidden asteroids in Micah system. The warm fuzzy feeling when finding them lasts for about 0.3 of a second. So formally, hidden content exists, but neither makes nor breaks the game.
Personally, I wonder why they bothered with these asteroids at all. Perhaps they foresaw Zenn's post.

Do you even know what RPG means?
FF7 is a turn based-tactics game with a mild exploration aspect.
I do but you seem confused. Thoroughly confused...

Again I'll mention this just for clarity, those asteroids count against the % score for the solar system so there is absolutley nothing hidden about them. You are told specifically that they are there by the game.

Okey, now I understand why you are whining about everything ME is.
Because you're just ignorant.
FFVI is the best FF ever, along with, maybe, FFIV. But even those aren't the best JRPG out there. Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Illusion of Time, Terranigma... Speacially Chrono Trigger. Far better than FFVII. And I have yet to play Chrono Cross, which is told to be even better (though I doupt it).
And you're not even comparing the same type of games! JRPG have almost nothing to do with WRPG.
Awwww how sweet, I never though I would find some PSX birth gamer in these forums.

First off the comparison was the modern era being diverse verses the PSX era being linear which we all know is absolutley not true of RPG. Second FF7 was the first RPG embraced by more than a cult following. You can argue FF6 was better or chrono trigger was better BUT neither of them was played by more people. Crono Cross was awesome but if you played Chrono Trigger you get nestalgic and lose a bit of the awe. FF4... not so much. It was a last minute translation of another game and didn't really hit any of the marks. It had a cult following at best. Secret of Mana (both games) were never really embraced either because the SNES wasn't a big RPG console. Shining Force on the Genisis was better.
But you should play Chrono Cross it should refresh your RPG memory. I just played through Vay night before last and am currently running through play 20 or so of Star Control 2. Another one you should pick up since it's absolutley free and one of the best RPGs ever made as well.

More people have played WOW and the Sims than FF7. Obviously WOW is the greatest RPG ever. So great that I'm one of the few who hasn't played it. Plus its aged like a month old burrito. Each FF game from then on has been divisive, because of what FF7 did. I personally find it a bit eccentric, do not know where the love for this game has come from. The Final Fantasy games usually have broken game mechanics all over the place and FF7 was arguably the most busted. I'll take the Shin Megami Tensei games anyday in the gameplay regard. The Dragon Quest games also have a solid ruleset. I love FF7 as a nonsensical romp, but I would never paint it in the corner of a great RPG, its not even a good game in my opinion. I'd rather play FF8, even though its story was stupid. FF7 story wasn't stupid it was just crazy eccentric, which I personally find Awesome. Unfortunate that so many tend to take that game so seriously, guess thats why we have Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus. But I digress.
There are numerous RPGS that I would call better than FF7, and many more games that I would call better.

Beat the hell out of Chrono Cross anyway. Chrono Cross did have an interesting combat system, but Suikoden is just so damn quick and satisfying. Plus 100+ characters to recruit, not just combat characters to. Excellent
