We've met two Reapers now. So who wins the battle for being the most badass Reaper in or around the galaxy?
Most Evil Reaper Plot:
Sovereign: Search for clues to open a back door to the Citadel
Harbinger: Kidnap tens of millions of humans and process them into goo
Advantage: HARBINGER
Cojones:
Sovereign: Stayed behind after the other Reapers left, showed up on Eden Prime, took on the Citadel fleet, destroyed many human ships and possibly the Destiny Ascension
Harbinger: Watched from a distance and never got his ... er, tentacles dirty.
Advantage: SOVEREIGN
Treatment of subordinates:
Sovereign: Influenced one psychotic turian and hacked a subset of flashlight-headed AIs.
Harbinger: Genetically modified the formerly dominant galactic civilization to do his dirty work, no questions asked.
Advantage: HARBINGER
Trash-talking:
Sovereign: The one conversation you have with Sovereign has many great lines that every ME player remembers. "We are Legion." "You exist because we allow it, and you will end because we demand it." "Your words are as empty as your future."
Harbinger: Mostly repeated one-liners during combat.
Advantage: SOVEREIGN
Current status:
Sovereign: Reduced to pieces of refuse swept up be Keepers except for pieces studied by Turians and melted down into ashtrays by Quarians
Harbinger: Still chillaxing out in dark space with all the other Reapers
Advantage: HARBINGER
So, with an advantage of three to two, the title goes to... HARBINGER.

I disagree with Sovereign winning the trash talking. Harbinger just DOES NOT SHUT UP. He even talks smack about your party members too. Bastard calls Garrus primitive and mocks Tali's immune system

I have to say that the single conversation with Sovereign made him feel more threatening than Harbinger ever felt. Harbinger so far is having more success (his plan has failed, but he didn't go down with it) but Sovereign made me feel more directly threatened.

I think that letting the reaper fleet enter the galaxy is a more evil goal then making a new one, seeing as those reapers are going to kill every colonist that was processed anyways...



I'm sorry, but Sovereign is just more of a badass in my books.

Yeah Harbinger is just a bastard with all the trash talk. But it feels kinda hollow when you put numerous bullets through his skull.

Harbinger kept telling me he was going to win but kept losing over and over again. Sovereign did a lot of winning (he potentialy took out the Citadel fleet)... both lost but Sovereign was more scary.

Sovereign is a way better villain, and his dialog is a lot more memorable. Then again, Sovereign spoke mostly during cutscenes, and prolonged fights. Harbinger dies too fast for me to hear what he's saying.

Now that you mention it, Harbinger did speak in all caps.

Sovereign was far more scary. That conversation with him really makes you feel like yes, he is scary. The sense of age, and the contempt comes through much more clearly.  Organics are animals to Sovereign and by and large he treats them like it.

Harbringer is a joke. "taking control". It's hard for me to be scared of someone I've killed as often as I've killed him. And his voice is also nothing special, whereas Sovereign's sounds inhuman.

i can see it now reaper command:

Sovereign didn't just affect Saren. There were other sapients that were affected by it to take actions for the Reaper cause, and let's not forget the Rachni.

I find Harbinger much more interesting, though I can understand why people feel as they do about Sovy. With Harbinger, I think his gameplay antics should be ignored somewhat (just like we ignore squaddies dying or being annoying in gameplay) and he should be considered more for his dialog (primarily his batch of lines during the final run).



In a way the reaper you fight reflects you. You're the vanguard of humanity in ME 1 and so Sovy is a vanguard... in ME 2 you're on a secret daring mission and if you think about it so is harbinger and the collectors.

Harbinger wins on trash talking. Dude just doesn't shut up and starts laying into your teammates if you actually let him live long enough to talk that much.



But Sovereign sounds more menacing. I'm not entirely sure I'd call his words trash talking, though. The second Shepard starts it with "you're a machine, you can be broken," Sovereign is all "THIS EXCHANGE IS OVER" instead of taunting back.



Sovereign was actually quite smooth and methodical. I don't know what to think about Harbinger, other than he's a sore loser. I knew Sovereign's intentions. I never could figure out Harbinger's.



'Course, Harbinger wins by virtue of still being alive, but I bet in a straight up fight between the two, Sovereign wins. I bet back in the old days, they hated each other.

Hmm, Sovereign/Nazara is certainly more bombastic and his speeches tend to have more gravitas. However Harbinger is the obvious better when it comes to dick factor.

While Sovereign has an effing cool voice, Harbinger actually went on the offensive against Shep instead of reacting. Plus you need t- ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL.

 No, No, No, Sovereign was the best Reaper, in the first Mass Effect, I actually felt threatened inside the game because Sovereign was actually within the galaxy while we were starting to discover the Reapers and their plan.
