I was thinking yesterday when playing ME1 how awesome the game would be with ME2 combat. What do you guys think of something like an enhanced edition trilogy? It could be released when (or shortly after) ME3 comes out and would be all three games with the best ideas from ME2 and (the presumably better) ME3 implemented into the earlier games sort of like the metroid prime trilogy.

I feel like it should be the other way around. ME 2 with ME 1 combat.

I miss some of the more traditional RPG elements from the first game but I think Bioware really surpassed themselves when they (in my opinion) improved the combat.

ME2 combat is way better then the first ME1.Because now you can see the rounds that fly around, that thing gives me an edge in game, and also helps me see if the gun fire hits the foe.

ME1 with ME2 combat would be great. I like the new combat (after taking ages to get used to it since I'm not familiar with shooters). ME2 could learn a few things from ME1 though.

How about they just finish ME3 instead. :)

The combat in ME2 is leagues ahead of ME1 combat so I'd love to have ME2 combat in ME1. Shame it will never happen though.

the thing is, this is what I believe to be the development cycle for Mass Effect 2 starting with the most important to BW.. Combat>Story>Graphics>Minigames>RPG Elements

True but that's why I added the shortly after to my post. If it was released after ME3 as a special edition I'm sure it would make a fair amount of profit and not interfere with ME3 development.

Would have liked the weapon comparison/inventory in this game too, but nontheless, ME2 had much better combat.
Would love to play ME1 with ME2 combat/approach to none story-arc missions.

But after ME3 if ever. In other words- Bioware, make ME3 now.

I have to say even after playing ME2 I much rather ME1 combat, auto cover I find infinitely more helpful than "press This and that" to cover, not to mention the missing crouch button.

There are some good elements but I really think ME1 has far more fluid combat, Shepard moves around as if he's a 500kg mech or something in ME2, it's rather annoying.

We all have our own preferences about what we do like and not. Personally i think the battle in Me 1 is much more fun and free (you can actually move around without dying in a split second). In Me 2 its like these shooting ranges and lvl types (think old school arcade here) and thats not a total mess, but not what I want in ME series. Everything in ME 2 feels so small and tight, nah not my thing in a sci fi game like this. Sure there are some improvments but to me there is also some very dishartening things about the combat now and its not finetuned at all as I see it. Gets kind of boring to tell you the truth, anyway lets hope ME 3 will be very good in all aspects of the game (RPG BW), shall we.

My 2 cents

I agree that ME2 combat can feel restrictive sometimes especially on insanity where you aren't allowed to stand up for two seconds but I think the benefits far outweigh the losses. I hated the way in ME1 you only had to aim at the same county as your target and you would get a direct hit.

The shooting for sure - I dunno about biotics and tech though. While as a whole I think the combat is a big improvement, I wish as a biotic you had more than a couple of usable powers, and I wish they would nix the global cooldown.

Well I’m in the minority as I far preferred the combat in Mass Effect 1.

The cover system was better to me. I pressed lightly against a piece of cover and I entered it, pull slightly away and I leave cover.

Also the crouch let me hide behind low cover without having to be pressed against it. Not important you say, I found it invaluable for moving swiftly between two points of cover without having to expose myself to enemy fire.

Compare that to the cover system in 2. Where you need to press a button to enter cover, meaning many accidental  climbs over a crate straight into the enemy firing line.

You also can’t pull away smoothly as Shepard seems to grip against objects like a limpet, meaning you have to press a button to exit cover smoothly and then when you do so, you automatically stand up.

You still have to pull up the power wheel to access most of your abilities so I don’t count the mapped shortcuts as an improvement. I use all my abilities in a fight, not just two or three.

Also what the hell is the deal with the global cool-down on powers? How is that an improvement on being able to use each power individually? And why is ammo included as a power?

The only thing I can say I find to be an improvement is the ability to curve powers around objects.

i'd like to see this but i think the amount of work it would take would be similar to coding a new game. i don't think ti's very likely.

Have you ever seen actual firefights though? It shouldn't be like Halo where you just strafe all over the place jumping up and down to avoid incoming fire. You're in a fire fight with trained killers, who know exactly where to aim

Have you?

How about posting your own thoughts on this instead of simply putting down his.

There is no attempt at discussion in your post, just a school yard "nahnahnah, you're wrong and I'm right."

I didn't mean to put him down, and I didn't bring up Halo as if calling him a fanboy at all, I merely referenced Halo because the majority of the game, you spend it strafing out in the open, I like fearing for my life, It's more immersive when 3 mercs have their guns trained on me, and if I don't time my reactions right, they immediately peel away my shielding. its' what I picture future combat to be like,

Sorry if that was taken derisively, I didn't mean it in that tone at all, merely was comparing the game based on gameplay

Because of the faulty, glitchy cover system in ME1, I found myself never using cover at all, but merely hugging a corner when using a long distance weapon, and if not, then running into a run, and launching a volley of powers and offense, then ducking back to let shields recharge. It just simply didn't feel like a true engagement,

The one thing I'd like for changing is to have the enemies not always KNOW where Shepard is at all times, I'd like more Aggro features

For the most part I preferred the system in ME1.

By all means, ME2 combat works well enough to be fun, but it does tend to get a bit formulaic. If you see an area with lots of conveniently placed cover, you just know that a fight is about to begin. Duck behind first piece of cover, pop up to fire a salvo or unleash a power, duck down again, lather, rinse and repeat. Haven't played Vanguard yet, though, so that may shake things up a bit. ME1 felt more varied.
