Would rather have ME2 with ME1 combat. I own gears of war, I don't need another shooter with a questionable plot(ME2).

Having ME1 combat in ME2 wouldn't make the plot any less questionable... I can only assume you really think ME1 had more fun combat, yes?

I've got things in my fridge older than ME1. Don't expect a remake till at least 10 years from now. I'd rather they remake BG

you'll want to have a peek here then ;)

ME2 combat is a lot better, but it could be even better with some ME1 elements. Powers need to play a more enhanced role, and, it seems as though creating a wide variety of enemies and battles is a universal problem or achilles heel at Bioware; they really need to straighten that out, ME2 was a little too tunnel vision since every single frikin enemy was a humanoid that you sprayed or sniped.

You need to try the adept... No more spraying and sniping.

wow, I didnt know people preferred combat in ME1 over ME2. each to their own i suppose.

I also thought that redoing the combat system in ME1 would be fantastic but it would probably be an overhaul worthy of making a new game.

I did like the fact that the enemies in ME2 where smarter, and didn't just run at you like cannon fodder. Not keen on the mass destruction weapons though, too much emphasis has been put on these, rather than the rest of the arsenal! The combat itself, I prefered, just not the linear way to kill things!

well see when half life source was released, people automatically thought that it would have been half life 1 gameplay, with half life 2 engine. The disappointment led to fans creating a 3rd party mod for half life 2 titled "black mesa project". They've been doing a great job at it. Maybe this can be possible if Bioware releases us some ME2 modding tools?

ME 1 combat > ME 2 combat.

It was more challenging, and at least it was combat in three dimensions, whereas in ME 2 you can sit behind cover forever and shoot enemies like sitting ducks. Of course the AI wasn't perfect in ME 1, and the controls on PC weren't adapted very well from the inferior console input device. But the AI isn't any better in ME 2, and the controls are even worse, especially with putting several functions on a single button. And at least in the earlier levels combat was much more challenging in ME 1. For example, a single hit from a sniper meant reloading your game, and you had to look after your medi gel, whereas in ME 2 Shepards shrugs off even a direct hit from a rocket and just has to wait behind cover for a few seconds to be fully healed. Plus the RPG system in ME 1 added to the challenge and replayability.

So yeah, I would prefer ME 2 with the ME 1 combat. (And with a story of the ME 1 quality. And with the ME 1 crew.)

I was thinking yesterday when playing ME1 how awesome the game would be with ME2 combat. What do you guys think of something like an enhanced edition trilogy? It could be released when (or shortly after) ME3 comes out and would be all three games with the best ideas from ME2 and (the presumably better) ME3 implemented into the earlier games sort of like the metroid prime trilogy.

Yea guess that would be good.

Though they should keep the endless ammunition from ME1.

ME1 combat was stupid. Fail AI, fail squad mechanics, no headshots, ****ty cover system

the only thing I liked about ME1 combat was the fact that I could press the ctrl button

For people who never play biotic classes?Maybee...

The progression of an adept/vanguard was great in the first part. Nothing beats the wonderfull feeling of lifting a geth colossus.

1) Not hitting with assault rifles until you had endgame weapons because of the only 1 accuracy

2) Too many enemies when doing side missions on early levels.

3) Very overpowered Biotics (though, the nerf they got in ME2 was too extreme; something in between 1 and 2 would be perfect)

4) Some enemies (especially Krogan with their reg) had too much health, so you did effectively 5 minuts fire at them nonstop without killing them

In ME2, the quicker you advance the less enemies you'll encounter. Aggressive gameplay is rewarded. Whereas ME1 forced you to be defensive first, and when you got to a high enough level, the whole thing became a joke.

Oh thank god I'm not the only one who likes ME1 combat more.

Definetly not.Only the vanguard class is exiting(but bugged as hell) and a new good thing in Mass Effect.
Thats it.
Other things that annoyed me is that blue suns scum have revenants and claymores, but you couldnt outfit your "elite" team with the best weapons anymore.

1) Yeah rpg based combat--it could have been done better---but I'd love to have skill based combat back
2) Vs infinite no xp enemies?--fail to see the point here
3)ok so we can agree(although I personally didn't think they were that overpowered in ME1)
4)try playing ME2 on insanity they regen to full in the time it takes to reload--it's about a wash

That part I definitely agree with... Since the normandy can replicate any conventional weapon easily for the whole crew, you should be able to just pick up a bad ass gun like Revenant from Warden Kuril and get to give that for your squadmates. Not that it should be overpowered; the game should be balanced around a reasonable amount of actual loot from enemies (not any more than you could realistically carry back).

Some of you that are praising the ME1 combat don't seem to remember how god damn awfull the ai is... why go into cover when all they do is run into you?

Loki mechs do this.Fenris mech do this.Enemy shotgunners and krogan do this.
Pyros do this.
Of course, its  more stupid that enemies with their bigger numbers dont use this advantage to flank shepardts team and finish them of.

QFT

I really don't get how anyone could think ME had better combat then ME2 when in ME you can just lock down whole battles with Biotics, lame<_<

1) agreed, accuracy (crosshair size, recoil etc) should be a matter of character level. Damage shouldn't.
2) i don't see the point of xp from kills
3) yep
4) on ME2 incinerate, cryo blast, and incendiary and and cryo ammo (among possibly other things) stop health regen, whereas there was nothing in ME1 to stop health regen afaik

i'd rather they make a new mass effect 1 using some of the old resources (dialogue, story) but completely new combat and level/environment design especially for the unc missions (No reusing crap)
