Mine is Pillars of The Earth by Ken Follett.

Does it have to be a single book?

Otherwise i'd throw in the Song of Ice & Fire series of George R.R. Martin.

Seldomly got sucked into a story that much

The ones that I can be sure about are in the following categories: Lord of Light (Roger Zelazny) for science fiction, and Dykes To Watch Out For (Alison Bechdel) for graphic novels. Otherwise, for other genres and subgenres I haven't found my perennial favorite yet. Also, there are so many authors. types of writing and depths to plumb that I fear naming one as a 'favorite' would detract from the wonders of others.

Yes, that is a good book.

I think my favourite book must be "A Place Called Freedom" by Ken Follett.

Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey.

I challenge anyone to find another author who writes as eloquently and beautifully as her (Guy Gavriel Kay comes close).

The Lord of the Rings, with the Silmarillion as a close second. If I was choosing one for fantasy and science fiction seperately, then it would probably be Dune for science fiction.

I read a fair amount, and my secondary favourites always seem to be changing, but those remain pretty consistent. Especially the first two.

Does it have to be one? Well, I suppose Pride and Prejudice. I love that book so much. I thought I would hate it too since I dislike most school assigned books. And it isn't even a Fantasy book.

Notable mentions are Dracula and Let the Right One In.

Have you read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies yet? I just checked it out today.

Oh, no. I don't think I will be able to ever do that. A Pride and Prejudice book not written by Jane Austen? I'll be in between "Lulz" and "What are you doing to Darcy!!!?"

From what I have read, it is more of a mash. They take her words and add horror elements to it. I'll just stick to the original.

Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy. I'd have to put Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll as a very close second.

One of my favorite quotes. It was one of my old Bio forum signatures, too (still there, just not used much).

My favorite book of all time is Fall on Your Knees by Ann-Marie MacDonald. I've never read another author that writes quite like her. I can get so wrapped up in the story that when I do set the book down, it feels like I've been dreaming. I'm currently reading her second novel The Way the Crow Flies, another great novel. Not even the all-time classics can match her books, I'm afraid.

Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield is my personal favorite. Second would have to be Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind.
