I will point out that I've never sold anything for more then 2 gold. That includes the armors I try and keep. is there some kind of bug. I mean seriously, I still don't see how simply buying and selling loot will get you up to the 1000 g area.

I did a rough check. Before Lansmeet, my solo char has ~380 gold worth of equipment on and ~270gold in inventory. He bought 3 skill and 3 talent book which bring the total to ~740gold. This char did not lockpick a single time and didnt have max coercion to benefit from say, precious metals quest fully.

Well since the most I've ever seen something sell for loot wise was like six gold, and the rest being maybe 1 or 2 (and all of those things rarely) then I don't see how. I now know it's possible to make good money in the game, but I'm wondering if maybe there is a bug that is preventing stuff from going up in value as i lvl or somesuch?

Bug? Nothing I that I heard of (not this bug anywayz). Except for maybe starfang, items have a max grade of tier7. So those are the most profitable items that you can sell as far as item scaling is of concern.

It might have something to do with which quests you finish first. If it's a treaty with lots of chests and enemies to loot then you might wanna save that for last since drops/loots/chest items scale with levels.
Depends though. You might also go for the treaty which gives the best XP so your level is higher when you do everything else.
Too many factors involved without doing in-depth research. This is based on what I've noticed, since I don't always follow the same sequence when doing treaty quests and I noticed that the elven treaty gives a lot more gold when you go there at around 11+.

I gotta give bioware kudos, this game actually makes you think before you buy something, since you usually only collect a few dozen silver and generally have to work to bcome rich.

that said merchants buy to sell ratio is ridiculous, a armor that I sold for oh say 12 sovergins I only get about three sovereigns from the sell.

also recipes cost are nuts, as well as the cost for the items add up real fast, I guess the best option there is to only buy the recipes for things that you want.

Yeah but the recipes stay with me if you start a new game.

It's all about the Lyrium. If you don't like making potent lyrium potions, then do the lyrium smuggling quest once you have 40 gold on your person and third tier coercion. You'll buy lyrium for 40g, sell it for 65g and a dagger, and get paid 20g for your troubles. So basically you turn 40g into 86g in a trip from Orzamar to Circle Tower and back to Orzamar. Between that and just selling useless items and doing side quests that pay you (blackstone, chantry, mages) everyone should easily have enough gold to get one item they really want, which I think was the idea. If you really are devoted to trying to make a lot of money, even if you don't make potent lyrium potions, there are enough money making sidequests to finance two or three of those "buy" only items. Which again, I think, was intentional. If you try hard to make a lot of money you can afford the best possible equipment for your PC. Now if you're willing to make and sell potent lyrium pots on top of all that, you can deck a whole squad out in ideal gear. But honestly, by the time you can afford all that, your PC is going to be such a beast that the other characters are mostly there for flash anyway, so I've never seen any point.

Tips for more gold. Legit using the game constructs...not glitches. Stumbled on by trying stuff...

The lyrium smuggling quest. In addition to the 65g + dagger you get for selling it, if you ask why he needs it...then say that you'll tell...the mage will give you 8 more gold (and accuse you of blackmail...haha) to keep you quiet.

Then, when you go back to Rogek for your 20 g fee...have Leliana or your thief pickpocket him first. You can get the 20 g off him, then immediately walk up to him and get your 20 g. sometimes if you're high enough persuade, you can get him up to 25. I don't remember if you get 25 pickpocketing him or not.

Explore those conversation options! And pickpocketing (and having the dog get stuff) can also net you nice things that sell well.

If you play as a dwarven noble...you get more by selling to a certain merchant in Denerim.

Be careful to pay the lowest amounts for various crafting ingredients...it adds up to pay even 10 copper more per flask, for instance. Over the accumulation of say, a thousand flasks...10 copper is a sovereign you didn't need to pay, and that's just for flasks, and just for a difference between payiing 1 10 and 1 00. If you pay 1 50 each, now that's some serious gold you've squandered. Same for all ingredients. buy at the cheapest place and stock up.

It's hard for some of us to ask for rewards, but you know....it does pay in this game.

re: lyrium quest
don't forget to pickpocket the guy in orzamar before speaking to him. 20g gravy there as well.
edit: doh.. beaten to the punch.

In my last play through I played a mage. By relentlessly pursuing rewards, bargain hunting and not buying top grade equipment I finished with over 1k gold. Doing Orzammar and Return to Ostagar last really brought in the gold as silverite and dragonbone sells for quite the pretty penny.

Yes, doing Orzammar as last quest is wise, since there is the most loot. And when it is tier 7 loot you get much money for it.

And let every rogue in your party learn max stealing and set "Enemy - any - use ability: stealing" in your tactics. You won't believe how many things you get with that. ;)
