So I had a dream I was playing ME3 last night (im obsessed i know) and in it, shepard was commanding over a whole army and I was playing over a RTS mini game. Armies and vehicles vs. armies and vehicles.

now im not saying this is a good idea or a bad idea, i just thought it was intriguing throwing in a little real time strategy mini game for some parts.

just wondering what other people might think about it...

thoughts?

Don't go there, it's a silly place.

Let's not be too harsh. I'll go ahead and entertain this notion.

Your premise, if I'm visualizing it correctly, is an epic scene in which a huge, sprawling conflict is raging around Shepard and Co. Explosions, destruction, rousing orchestral melody with lots of bass. Sounds pretty good to me. However, the necessary game mechanic to convey this scene most effectively would be (in my mind) similar to the one on Virmire.

i.e., You remain in the 3rd person shooter mechanic, fighting against the opposing force, occasionally giving orders via conversation wheel to the rest of your army, which then determines how the battle plays and branches out moving forward. You could have your crew divided among yourself and both flanks, leading a charging army on the battlefield. At various points in the conflict you could push ahead, or go to the aid of either. Strategy, hard choices, etc. etc.

Most people will see your RTS suggestion and gasp in disgust. In all honesty, it's understandable. RTS mechanics rarely ever convey the intensity/urgency of the battle when the perspective is ~1,000 feet in the sky. The whole experience is very detached. I like your idea, but think it would need to be implemented very carefully.

My thoughts, anyway.

an intresting way to put it. i like the idea. assigning generals from your squad like Garrus and such fighting ground battles, while legion infiltrates (THE GETH DO NOT INFILTRATE!) and hacks into the computer system for a little cyber warfare. and (now this is getting far out) calling in a strategic airstrike on points.

im really just looking for a huge, epic battle sequence for the third one. I think we can all agree on that.
