Both ME1 and ME2 started off with a bang, so how will ME3 begin do you think?
My guess is that someone important gets assassinated (Udina, Anderson, Illusive Man).
Shepard is sent to investigate this and finds out that the Reapers is behind it.

No bang needed, hopefully 5 years in the future. The calm before the storm would be a better feeling

I'd prefer it to start one year down the track in the middle of the reaper invasion. Plucking victory from the jaws of death is a better story than stopping the threat before they turn up.

Right after the events of ME 2, maybe even a few months. And maybe something involving Sheps LI, like maybe your LI gets kidnapped or something, who knows..

This was not my idea, but since I haven't seen it posted yet I will. Some one suggested that ME3 should start with Shepard standing trial by court-martial and would have to explain his actions in ME2. This gives the people who haven't played ME1 or 2 the opportunity to fill in the blanks of the last 2 games and reveal to the Council everything that we have learned in ME2 about the Reapers and the Collectors.

Perfect. Then Tali can leap to her hooves feet and shout down the tribunal as she castigates them.

Tali loudly proclaims, "Shepard doesn't need any stinking evidence. They should collectively find Shepard innocent of all charges by virtue of the fact that he/she is so damn awesome!"

And the crowd goes wild. "Keelah'Selai!"

yeah thats what I was talking about. I don't agree with all of it but I think there is a lot of potential there.
