I FIXED this annoying audio cut-out problem for me by not overclocking my processor (Q6600) when running Mass Effect 2 under Windows 7 32 Bit.

1.       Does the problem happen in a specific location in the game or
after a specific sequence of actions?

During the romance encounter with Thane. When he comes to Shepard's quarters the sound is completly out of synch. Only when it comes to the first Dialogue option does it go bayk in sync,

2.       Are you using a
desktop or laptop computer?

Desktop

3.       What operating system are you
using (please specify whether it’s XP, Vista, or 7, whether it’s the
Home, Professional, Ultimate, etc. variant, and whether it’s 32 or 64
bit)?

Windows Vista 64bit

4.       What type of processor are you using (please specify
manufacturer, model, clock speed, # cores, 32 v. 64 bit, etc.)? Are you
over-clocking your processor?

5.       What type of sound card are
you using? Is hardware acceleration enabled? What speaker configuration
are you using (stereo or surround)?

I'm not sure here... I think something like: Microsoft: High definition Audio gerät

6.       What other applications
are running on the computer when you’re playing ME2? Is your virus
scanner doing a scan when these issues happen?

I got avira antivir but it was never scanning while I had the problem

7.       Do you
experience these problems with any other games on this computer?

No.

Hey,

We’re looking into the audio cut-out problem and we need some help from the community. If you are experiencing the problem regularly, please review the questions below and post your answers here. Some of the questions are straight from the guidelines for posting problems, but others are more specific to this issue.

1.       Does the problem happen in a specific location in the game or after a specific sequence of actions?

Yes. Off the top of my head:-
The guard and krogan warrior arguing and fighting in the Shaman's room on Tutchanka. I've completed Grunt's loyalty quest and Wrex is alive.

2.       Are you using a desktop or laptop computer?

Desktop.

3.       What operating system are you using (please specify whether it’s XP, Vista, or 7, whether it’s the Home, Professional, Ultimate, etc. variant, and whether it’s 32 or 64 bit)?

Win Vista Business x64 SP2

4.       What type of processor are you using (please specify manufacturer, model, clock speed, # cores, 32 v. 64 bit, etc.)? Are you over-clocking your processor?

Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 - 3.13GHz (stock speeds), dual core, 64-bit

5.       What type of sound card are you using? Is hardware acceleration enabled? What speaker configuration are you using (stereo or surround)?

Auzen X-Fi Prelude. 2.0 stereo.

6.       What other applications are running on the computer when you’re playing ME2? Is your virus scanner doing a scan when these issues happen?

Yes. Steam and ESET Smart Security 4.0. No virus scans take place whilst I'm playing games.

7.       Do you experience these problems with any other games on this computer?

No, just whilst playing ME2.

Let me start by saying I am pretty sure what is causing myissue....

To get sound on my Realtek card with Win 7 64 bit for BeyondTV I had to enable "Exclusive Mode" one the Speaker Properties Advanced tab.  This allows an application to take total control of my sound card, so whenever Beyond TV starts an automatic recording my sound cuts out.  If I disable this mode DA and ME 2 work fine, but I can't get sound in Beyond TV.
  • Most of the time Beyond TV (by SnapStream) starts recording something, but once in a while it happens other times.

  • AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+; Family 15, Model 67, Stepping 2; 1 CPU w/ 2 cores; Clock speed is 2600 Hhz per core
  • Realtek; Driver RTKVHD64.sys [6.0.1.6013], I have the sound card set to Quadraphonic speakers but I use a set of stereo headphones
  • I have Steam, Bionic, AVG Internet Security, Network Magic, Beyond TV & FireFly (their remote software), WinTV Remote Software (used by my Hauppauge TV tuner card to change the channel on my cable box), and the Raptr client running.  AVG does not run scans when I am gaming.
  • In DA I have to restart it to get the sound back, but in ME2 I just loose it for a second.  I have also noticed the issue with Fallout 3....but that may be due to my video card drivers locking up 1/4 the time when I am in that game.

I had 0 sound problems during my first full game clear.  However, I just had the sound cut out during Grunt's Loyalty fight just as the ram hits the ground to summon the waves of beasts (yes, all three summoning sequences).  The Samara fight worked fine during the first run through... if it cuts out this time, I'll note it here.

Also, I've made no hardware changes since my first successful play through.  The only software change I've made was adding the new Hammerhead pack.

Uninstalled/reinstalled the game to try to fix the low audio level problem with the voices as before. Now the voices work fine but the sound effects are in the background, tried uninstalling/reinstalling twice now and still have the same problem. This is quite annoying.

1.  No.  Not that I have been able to duplicate.  Requires reboot to fix usually.

3. Win 7 64 Bit Professional

4. Intel Core i7 920  (4 Cores, 2.67 GHz, Not O/C)

5. Azuntech Home Theatre HD, Hardware Accel is enabled, using 5.1 surround sound through HDMI.

6.  AVG Free in background, scan not running.  Creative Mixer running.  All other apps not running.

7. Not experienced with other games.

Specifically, the center, sub and rear surround channels drop out leaving the two front channels.  So speech is very distant.

Hi,

It seems like I have the problem as described in the first posts of this topic. Everything works fine and ME2 never crashes but the audio of the dialogue seems to kick in too late and cut off too early as a result. As a further result the speech and mouth aren't in sync.

1) It can happen everywhere I think, although I get the feeling it never happens  the first minutes I start to play. Possibly after it loads  something new during gameplay it seems to go wrong.

2) I's a laptop, a European Sony Vaio model, the VPC-EB1M1E

3) Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

4) Intel Core i3 330m (64-bit) at stock clocks, which is 2,13. It has no turboboost, has 2 cores and 2 HT threads.

5)  Realtek HD (integrated) AND sometimes the soundcard of my headphone, the Microsoft LX-3000. The problem happens on both, so I doubt it's a specific driver issue. In Windows 7 there doesn't seem to be a way to turn hardware acceleration on or off. It's always on stereo.

6) Except for VAIO care, I only boot the PC with necessary System services, nothing else.

7) This is the strange part, the original Mass Effect has the same problem too:( on this laptop. The symptons are the same, although one point of difference is that in the original Mass effect the PC seems to 'lock' for a second and the latest sound seems te repeat a few times while someone is talking and only then the dialogue kicks in and then ends too early.
All my other games I've played on this laptop, Mirror's Edge 2, COD5: World at War, Prince Of Persia and UT3 don't have this problem.

What I've tried: several drivers, switching between the soundcard of the the Realtek HD integrated soundcard and the built-in soundcard of the LX-3000, updating codecs and defragmenting. With no result.

On my Vista-x64 desktop, which uses the same drivers for Realtek and the LX-3000 headphones I never had any troubles with ME1 and ME2.

1. Happens for all of tuchanka content, and when saving Joker at the very beginning. a few other dialogues.  can't hear EDI or anyone giving messages from the ship during missions

2. Using a desktop Dell XPS

3. Using Vista OS

4. Dual-Core processor, has not been overclocked or adjusted in any way.  I don't have any other information as I am at another computer

5. information not available for sound card.  using 5.1 surround sound setup

6. It reliably cuts out in the same times and places irrespective of what else is happening on the computer.

7.  This only happens with ME2

edit: took some advice from this forum and switched to stereo instead of 5.1 and now it works.  Hopefully there will be a patch that let us use urround ound setups effectively with this game

Had it happen twice in game, forget which area it was though. Got audio back instantly by hitting shift to go to power wheel then back out. There'd be a audio transient and then sound would come back. When audio cuts out, there's also a nasty transient that happens. I feared for my subwoofer.

1. I've this problem, and it's really anoying. My audio cuts back early at dialogs, normaly the last word or 2 words. It doesn't seem to happen in any specific situation, place or character.. it happens in all dialogs.

2. Computer, ATI 4800, 4GB RAM DDR3

3. Windows 7 x64 Professional, updated to the lastest drivers and updates from windows too

4. Core 2 Duo 6300

> Tried both with that option on and off, the problem remains, even after reboot.

"What speaker configuration are you using (stereo or surround)?"

Surround 5.1

"What type of sound card are you using?"

Onboard one, my mainboard its a Gigabyte  GA-P35C-DS3R (rev.
2.0)
-> Motherboard also updated to the lastest BIOS

6. "What other applications are running on the computer when you’re
playing ME2?"

None worth mentioning, apart from windows usual services, PunkBuster running on background, and I'm using Avira antivirus, but I tested deactivating the antivirus and that didn't solve the problem too.
Hey,

7. "Do you experience these problems with any other games on this
computer?"

No. I also have Mass Effect 1 installed and it doesn't have this problem.

Some usefull things worth mentioning too:

I've instaled the game once, and it didn't had this error. Recently I've reinstalled it, and this time I've installed the expansions from Cerberus:

ME2_CerberusArc
ME2_CerberusWpnArmor
ME2_Hammerhead
ME2_NormandyCrash
