If you people only got an X-Fi card, you'd never experience any audio problems.

LMAO  Good for you if NEVER ran into any audio issues with that card series and a lot of games.  Creative drivers leave a lot to be desired at times, so it's certainly not perfect.

Anyway, with the Shadow Broker DLC, I can easily reproduce losing all background/ambient sound and character dialog sound.

The mission is over, and everything about the DLC has been exhausted (investment opportunites, etc.).  So now whenever I fire up the game and go visit Liara, if I check the investment opportunites machine for the heck of it, and doing so more than one time, all sound I mentioned above will suddenly cease to play.  But I seem able to get the sound back by using the delivery machine (the one to the left of Liara when looking at her).

If you are having trouble with ME2 audio you can try this:

Install Everest

Run and goto Devices > Physical Devices

Update all drivers for all hardware

I was getting audio cut off with dialogue and some samples wouldn't play at all. After updating my card reader drivers the problem sorted itself out! My friend also tried and had luck fixing the audio problems when he updated his wireless internet driver.

Just happen for me for the first time during the 3rd playthrough, but the 1st time with imported save from ME.

1.       Thane Krios' loyalty mission, happens when Shepard is required to update the target's status, both characters' voice just stopped after I hit the update button (especially before Thane finishes his talk). Additionally, the subtitle disappeared as well. However, the game goes on normally after several seconds of silence (but the audio cut out would repeat during this mission).
2.       Desktop PC.
3.       Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.
4.       Intel Core i3-540, 3.07MHz, 64bit, no modification made.
5.       Gigabyte H55M-UD2H onboard, Realtek HD. Mess Effect 2 Config - Sound - default. 2.1ch, stereo with bass.
6.       Only other active app is RCW ME2 ModManager. No scanning is running.
7.       Nope.

For me the problem happens only during the car chase, as some XBOX people reported (but I'm running the PC version.) Otherwise no problems, but it happens every time during the chase.

Has a fix been released? Should we expect a patch? My video driver is updated, I'm running Windows 7, quad core intel i7 tech 2.8 gig, I have an ATI video card (don't remember the exact name)...

If a patch is out there, can somebody please post a link to it?

Never had these problems until Overlord and LotSB. Sentences get cut off at the very end, usually by just a syllable or two. Also the game crashes after about 10 or 15 minutes of gameplay. Some times its a C2D, sometimes it freezes and other times it does this stutter thing before I finely have to open up the Task Manager and get it to stop..!!!!

I just want to know, is a fix coming? I just remember how awful the Fallout Game of the Year Edition was on the PS3, and a patch was never released for what ended up becoming a game ending bug. Please release a fix!

I've had it a couple of times with the LotSB car chase, but reloading fixes it. I've not had any other problems. (Well, I have also had the Thane mission missing dialogue thing but I don't believe that's an audio cut out issue).

I noticed a slow down before the soundcut.
Even with the latest patch, the game creash sometime or even give me a blue screen relative to Nvidia Driver (260.99).
By the way, it would be great if you could develop a HD textures DLC. :D

Hey I just started playing ME2 again and I am having problems with the dialog audio being VERY faint. I have to turn the volume up almost all the way to hear dialog, all the music and effects are fine, and yes I checked my settings and the dialog was set to 100% volume, whenever I am running around I can hear guns firing and doors opening just fine but voices while exploring or when in direct dialog are extremely faint sometime to the point where I wouldn't even know that someone was talking if it weren't for the subtitles. I love this game please help with the problem.
PS. I recently re-booted my comp and this is a fresh install, I did not have this problem before, could it have something to do with the patch? I only ask this because that seems to be the only change from when I was playing with no problems to now playing with problems.
I have a Gateway Media Center PC (desktop)
Core duo processor- 64 bit 1.86GHz each, 2MB cache
Ram- 2 gigs
Graphics- Nvidia Ge-force 9600 gt, 512MB
Sound- Stock (and works fine all other games and programs have no problems)
I am not running any other programs with ME 2
This happens in the main storyline it may also happen in DLC but I have not checked that yet
Should I just uninstall the game and re-install?

This problem always happens for me at the end of sentences usually when Shepard has a dialogue choice coming up. It happens when there are no choices sometimes too. I use a laptop and this is the one I use:

www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0034NGZWM/ref=oss_product

I hope this gets fixed soon, it really detracts from the overall experience.

Downgrading from patch 1.02 to patch 1.01 fixed all audio issues for me, also noticed considerable performance improvement.
get it here

1. Does the problem happen in a specific location in the game or after a specific sequence of actions?
not in specific locations or sequence, its just a general dialog bug with cutting people off short.
2. Are you using a desktop or laptop computer?
laptop
3. What operating system are you using (please specify whether it’s XP, Vista, or 7, whether it’s the Home, Professional, Ultimate, etc. variant, and whether it’s 32 or 64 bit)?
windows 7 home premium 64 bit
4. What type of processor are you using (please specify manufacturer, model, clock speed, # cores, 32 v. 64 bit, etc.)? Are you over-clocking your processor?
intel i7 740m 1.7ghz - 2.6 ghz, 2.8ghz OC
5. What type of sound card are you using? Is hardware acceleration enabled? What speaker configuration are you using (stereo or surround)?
realtek something or other, stero headphones on at the moment
6. What other applications are running on the computer when you’re playing ME2? Is your virus scanner doing a scan when these issues happen?
nothing else usually
7. Do you experience these problems with any other games on this computer?
no

I've heard that overclocking can be the source of the problem of this bug (something about the game not predicting the increased performance, although why one would need to compensate for such things is beyond me). Normally, this wouldn't be a problem for me, but on this laptop this is a special kind of problem. You see, based on the preformance/power settings my computer is on (eg, power saver, high preformance) and the preformance my computer thinks it needs for whatever it is running, my processor will automatically increase its clock speed up from 1.7 (overclocking actually just increases the maximum clock speed). Would this make the issue unfixable on my laptop?

No, this bug is definitely NOT related to overclocking. I have this bug even with my machine, a Mac Pro, that has no BIOS options and cannot be overclocked.

Same here, my system is still at factory spec... Also, the problem seems to be progressive - I seem to lose more audio on each playthrough, though luckly I've only noticed this problem on Thane's LM.

1. No, it seems to cut out randomly, usually during a cut scene but sometimes at other times while either in battle or just walking around. Problem has gotten worse and recently the game has force closed when starting (would turn "not responding" in the Bioware and EA screens before the main menu)

2. desktop

3. Windows 7 Home Premuim 64 bit

4. AMD Phenom II X4 965 (3.4 GHz), no overclocking

5. Onboard sound card Stereo speaker configuration

6. No other applications active other than virus protection in the background (not scanning though)

7. I've had this problem with Assassin's Creed II as well, but it didn't happen nearly as often and only happened in cut scenes in that game.

This problem seems to be related to the shadow broker mission DLC or another recent DLC. I played through the game 2x complete when it was first released with all DLC except Shadow Broker, Overlord pack, and Equalizer pack. Just started playing again a couple days ago and purchased those three packs and now I have this bug. My PC is Win 64 ultimate, E8400 dual core. Not that I believe that has anything to do with it as I played through the game 2x on this exact system without any problems. I don't recall my game patching when I started playing again, I think it was already up to date.

1. Does the problem happen in a specific location in the game or after a specific sequence of actions?
Well whenever someone speaks during character interaction or in a cutscene the voice's do not sync with the lips. Also the words at the end of a sentence are cut out, other then that the battle and ambiance are unaffected. I own both Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 from the Steam store after my Xbox bought the dust, and both have this same problem.
2. Are you using a desktop or laptop computer?
Desktop
3. What operating system are you using (please specify whether it’s XP, Vista, or 7, whether it’s the Home, Professional, Ultimate, etc. variant, and whether it’s 32 or 64 bit)?
Windows 7 64bit
4. What type of processor are you using (please specify manufacturer, model, clock speed, # cores, 32 v. 64 bit, etc.)? Are you over-clocking your processor?
Processor: Intel® Core ™ i5 CPU 750 @ 2.67 GHz Clock speed 2767 MHz. hysical memory: 7.99 GB. Display Adapter: ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series VRAM: 1.00 GB. Sound Adapter: Speakers (Creative SB X-Fi). Read the system requirements. DirectX 9.0c is the version ME2 specifically requires. 10 and 11 just arent backwards compatible enough to do the job.

I had this issue while playing with my laptop. Didn't have it when I was playing with my desktop tho.

OS, antivirus and pretty much everything software wise was the same.

1. Problem was quite random but it happened very often during dialogs

2. Laptop

3. Windows 7 x64 Home Premium

4. Intel T4500

5. Some crappy realtek integrated with integrated Dolby Virtual Surround speakers. God knows what the real configuration is :)

6. Avast!. nothing special otherwise

7. Not so far.

1.       Does the problem happen in a specific location in the game or after a specific sequence of actions?
If I fire my weapons, an npc interrupts with audio dialogue in mid-fights while the same char is talking, cut-scenes where my actions remain idle.
2.       Are you using a desktop or laptop computer?
Desktop
3.       What operating system are you using (please specify whether it’s XP, Vista, or 7, whether it’s the Home, Professional, Ultimate, etc. variant, and whether it’s 32 or 64 bit)?
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
4.       What type of processor are you using (please specify manufacturer, model, clock speed, # cores, 32 v. 64 bit, etc.)? Are you over-clocking your processor?
AMD Phenom II x6, 2.8Ghz, 6core, 64bit, no OC at all.
5.       What type of sound card are you using? Is hardware acceleration enabled? What speaker configuration are you using (stereo or surround)?
Realtek HD Audio, hardware is enabled, 5.1 surround sound.
6.       What other applications are running on the computer when you’re playing ME2? Is your virus scanner doing a scan when these issues happen?
Avira Virus scanner, Realtek HD sound system, ATI CCC, AIM, Steam, Logitech setpoint, Logitech Profiler. No scanning is happening.
7.       Do you experience these problems with any other games on this computer?
Nope, just Mass Effect 2. Even ME1 did not have these problems. Aside from the audio output is much lower on both ME1 & 2 software compared to every other game, and Windows programs that require sound output.
