K, since no one ranted yet, I'll rant for everyone....Bioware, this is beyond pathetic and seems to happen with all of your games. I love your games, but this audio issue is annoying and there is more than enough data here.

1.       Does the problem happen in a specific location in the game or after a specific sequence of actions?
No, it happens in every dialogue of the game, the last "word" (or so) is being cut off. I've noticed it doesn't happen before the first choice circle. The problem wasn't there when I first played and finished the game in December. I just installed LotSB and Kasumi Stolen Memory, and noticed this.
2.       Are you using a desktop or laptop computer?
Desktop.
3.       What operating system are you using (please specify whether it’s XP, Vista, or 7, whether it’s the Home, Professional, Ultimate, etc. variant, and whether it’s 32 or 64 bit)?
Windows 7 Professional 64bit.
4.       What type of processor are you using (please specify manufacturer, model, clock speed, # cores, 32 v. 64 bit, etc.)? Are you over-clocking your processor?
Intel Core i7 920 @2.67Ghz, 4 cores (8 with HT) 62bit, socket 1366. Core name Bloomfield.
5.       What type of sound card are you using? Is hardware acceleration enabled? What speaker configuration are you using (stereo or surround)?
On-board Realtek HD Audio (my motherboard is a Gigabyte EX58-UD5). There is also an onboard ATI HDMI Audio, but the jack is not working, so I can't test it there. I have installed the new audio drivers (updated on 11/2/2011), but it's still not working.I am using Logitech X530 5.1 speakers. I can't find any hardware acceleration option in any audio menu.
6.       What other applications are running on the computer when you’re playing ME2? Is your virus scanner doing a scan when these issues happen?
McAfee antivirus (not scanning), Steam, Logitech keyboard+mouse software.
7.       Do you experience these problems with any other games on this computer?
No, this is the only game that has any audio problem.

Check out this site, it has lots of solutions for variable ME2 problems.

Yesterday, after having no luck with any solutions about sound card, overclocking etc, I disabled McAfee's real-time scanning and Logitech's keyboard&mouse program running on the background, and everything went fine!

I reenabled real-time scanning, and dialogues still worked fine, so I guess it's the keyboard program messing (?) somehow with ME2.

Edit: Today the problems started again, using same tactic to get rid of the problem doesn't seem to work...
Edit 2: I checked by shutting all processes that weren't necessary off from task manager, the problem still exists. I also tried with a different sound card, an external M-Audio ProFire 610, and the problem still exists. All drivers are up-to-date. I wonder if there's something about graphics that causes this, although all kinds of overclocking is off... My graphics card is Ati HD 5800.
Edit 3: Yesterday I had to reinstall PhysX to the last version due to a problem with Steam Gothic 4's installation. After restarting pc, I also tried to play ME2, and there was no problem! However today, it's back to broken... This randomness is really confusing.

1. Mass effect 1: I get what I can only describe as that strange "dial up modem data transfer noise" when I enter Flux night club, I get music when i first enter via the door or the rapid transfer point, the noise starts when I get to the top of the stairs and continues until I leave, I can some times hear music behind the noise. I cant hear what people are saying when I speak to them.
(worked fine untill i installed the 1.2 patch)

2. Packard bell Imedia 1559 (age no idea, faint smell of Gopher wood, may of been used by noah to design the ark)

3. Windows XP Home Edition 32 bit (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3

4. Intel® Pentium® D CPU 2.80GHz (2 CPUs) not over clocked (I can run windows 64 on it, just cant afford it)

5. Integrated sound card Realtek HD Audio output. hardwere acceleration is enabled, stereo sound

6. AVG anti-virus not scanning whilst playing (bringing up the task manager and looking at the processes does show 4 copies of realplayer running for some reason)

7. no sound problems with other games

I'm back everybody!

I got in trouble by (you know who), if your seeing this bogsnot1, I would like to remind you we agreed to a "none-aggression agreement".
That means "no swearing, no cussing, no cursing, no insulting, no name calling, no humiliating each-other, no bathroom humor, no sarcasm, and most of all NO REPORTING ON EACH OTHER, we agreed to be professionals about our problems with ME2, remember!!!

Bogsnot1 was well within his rights to report you for your rude and uncalled for behavior, FortKavanagh. Anyways, plenty of other members probably reported you as well.

And writing a huge topic where every other word insulted Bogsnot1 can hardly be called "professional".

SSV Enterprise, stay out of this please, bogsnot1 is not within his right to report on me the way he did, he blown-up (as in ka-boom) things way out of proportions, and was the only person who was reporting on me (I checked and it was bogsnot1 and only bogsnot1, now please leave me alone and stop following me!!!

Since new DLC is coming out (glad that ME2 is still not forgotten), will there be a fix to these issues? Any possible patch? Or at least any other ways to adress the issue (successfully). At the moment I've still to play Lair of the Shadow Broker, since the problem can make me lose important parts of dialogues...

Is it true, is it really true that there will be a new patch for ME2, becuase I'm really hoping they fix all the DLC glitches and stuff???

P.S. I made a forum called "what fixes they should put in the next ME2 (PC) Patch" it has about 3 pages of 55 replies and 1671 viewings, it's chock full of really good ideas for fixes to put the next ME2 game patch, check it out, here is the link, hope you like it!^_^

Because this was stickied when BioWare was researching the problem over a year ago, and I'm actually unsure if it's a thread they still actively look into, I'm going to unsticky it. That is not to say that there is a definite solution, a patch, or that BioWare has ceased to look into the issue: I do not know the answer to any of that. It's merely being unstickied for being an old thread.

I have had the same dialogue cut-off issues occur in Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2. I've had two different computers, two different operating systems (XP and 7) and 3 different sound cards in that time period. I believe there is just something inherent in the way Bioware's game engine handles audio cues that cause these occasional hiccups in dialogue. I've learned to live with it, but it's pretty sad that they haven't figured it out after all these years.

My system is an Asus G73-JW. I Corrected the problem of audio cutting out near the end of a convo. It was Cutting off at the very end by about a full second. In any case, the G73-JW comes equiped with a one touch over-clock button for he video card and processors, while activated and having the system overclocked, the audio would cut out. However when I would play the game without having my system overclocked everything worked fine. I can even have the game running and turn it off and on on the fly and have it affect the way the audio cuts out. It sounds like a problem with how ME2 manages system resources.

1.       Does the problem happen in a specific location in the game or after a specific sequence of actions?
I'm experiencing one reproduceable sound cut-out issue
during Grunt's Rite of Passage. Whenever the hammer falls after pressing the button all sound cuts out completely and only comes back about 5-10 seconds later.

I'm also experience the 'dialogue cutting off at the end' issue that some people seem to be having. This seems to happen completely randomly and I can't tell if there's anything that prompts it.

2.       Are you using a desktop or laptop computer?
Desktop

3.
What operating system are you using (please specify whether it’s XP, Vista, or 7, whether it’s the Home, Professional, Ultimate, etc. variant, and whether it’s 32 or 64 bit)?
Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate + SP1

4.       What type of processor are you using (please specify manufacturer, model, clock speed, # cores, 32 v. 64 bit, etc.)? Are you over-clocking your processor?
Intel Core i5 2500 3.3 ghz (4 cores, no Hyperthreading, 64-bit), not overclocked

5.       What type of sound card are you using? Is hardware acceleration enabled? What speaker configuration are you using (stereo or surround)?
Realtek integrated sound chip on a Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD3 (B3) motherboard, latest audio drivers installed.
Using normal speakers, sound set to regular stereo (not 5.1 or 7.1) @ 24bit 44000 Hz, no hardware acceleration.

6.       What other applications are running on the computer when you’re playing ME2? Is your virus scanner doing a
scan when these issues happen?
Eset NOD32 antivirus, Comodo firewall, EVGA Precision, Coretemp, Process Explorer.
I run a clean PC, so there are no auto-updaters running in the background and the programs mentioned above are set to manual scanning/updating only.

7. Do you experience these problems with any other games on this computer?
No.

I've played through ME2 twice before with game version 1.00 on my previous CPU + mobo (Core2Duo E8400 and a Gigabyte X48-DS4 motherboard + realtek sound) and did not have these issues back then.

This 3rd playthrough is the first time I'm having the sound issues described above. The only thing that has changed since then is that I've patched the game to 1.02 and I've change to a new motherboard + CPU. I'm pretty sure one of these 2 things is the connecting factor.
Since this hardware is pretty new I'd not be surprised if it's an optimization issue with specific hardware.

The new hardware is working perfectly btw. I've run some benchmark/stress tests on it and tested half a dozen other games which all run perfect and have top notch sound. Mass Effect 2 also runs great and the sound is good, except for when it cuts out (on Tuchanka) or when speech is clipped - it's almost like the game's sound engine is getting overloaded at times.

Interestingly, I just restarted the game and it cleared the sound cut-out bug on Tuchanka right up. Before restarting I could reload to various stages of the mission and reproduce the cut-out with each hammer strike. Now after restarting the sound doesn't cut out at all, not at any stage.

Given that until I just restarted I'd been running the game nearly the entire day, I assume that there's some kind of resource leak causing the audio stability to degrade over time. It would explain why the past few days when I could only play an hour or two at a time I did not notice any dialogue clipping, yet today I started to notice it more and more...

I guess this problem is still not solved? And I should not hold my breath that it ever will be solved?

I run the game with subtitles. In the opening sequence, the lip-voice syncronisation is extremely off... with the sounds happening way before the lip movements.

1.       Does the problem happen in a specific location in the game or after a specific sequence of actions?

It happens everywhere in the game and not after any specific sequence of actions I can think about.

2.       Are you using a desktop or laptop computer?
Desktop.

3.       What operating system are you using (please specify whether it’s XP, Vista, or 7, whether it’s the Home, Professional, Ultimate, etc. variant, and whether it’s 32 or 64 bit)?
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

4.       What type of processor are you using (please specify manufacturer, model, clock speed, # cores, 32 v. 64 bit, etc.)? Are you over-clocking your processor?
Intel Core i7 930 standard clock speed, standard cores, 64 bit.

5.       What type of sound card are you using? Is hardware acceleration enabled? What speaker configuration are you using (stereo or surround)?
SoundBlaster Fatalyty Pro. The onboard sound I disabled in the bios. If I enable it, I get crackling sounds in virtually every other game on the PC.

6.       What other applications are running on the computer when you’re playing ME2? Is your virus scanner doing a scan when these issues happen?
Avira Antivir Personal Edition. And no, it does not scan while these issues happen. Sometimes I run Firefox in the background. And "origin" without which, I understand, I cannot play the game.

7.       Do you experience these problems with any other games on this computer?

No, this is the only game that has any audio problem. I also run Mass Effect 1 where the problem does not seem to occur.

I may have found an answer:

There are no cutouts when I am not connected to the Cerberus Network...

Sorry. I have disabled the login to Cerberus network, due to the problems it has been having lately, but there is no difference in cutouts. They are there as well.

I actually don't disable the login. It is just that every time I start the game, I get the message, that the connection to the network could not be established. If I leave it as it is, I do not get the cutouts...
