Just don't watch the final episode of Battlestar Galactica if you've become attached to the characters or world at all or you may want to kill kittens.

Who doesn't want to kill kittens all the time? I mean, come on... Kittens, Bet'cha can't kill just one!

No. Andromeda was not good, and this is coming from a Trekkie. I don't know if it was the acting quality, the writing, the fact that Gene was dead or what, but it was pretty bad.

Worst group of talentless hacks and ****** poor acting skills ever assembled for a sci-fi show.

how much of the show have you watched? seemed decent to me

Enough to be bored to tears, and role my eyes at the bad acting.  Kevin Sorbo and Lexa Doig stand out as the worst of the bunch.

What, worse than the big guy with the dreadlocks going "I-AM-A-WARR-I-OR" or the purple girl with a tail.. who later became a yellow dominatrix?

Mass Effect always reminded me a bit of Babylon 5. It's old, but still gold.

Andromeda didn't keep my interest for very long.

If you're looking for good sci-fi and have not heard of or seen Doctor Who, then you're definitely missing out.

The easiest way to make an alien culture seem deep when you're really just being lazy is to make them Vikings/Samurai in spaaaaaaaaaace with their glorious battle and honour and rar warrior death and all that.

Andromeda was just bad. B5 raised my standards for sci-fi too high.

Great. Now I'm back to gushing over David Tennant when I just got over that. Thanks. :bandit:

Star Wars is classic (if we don't count the new ones), but Babylon 5 always appealed to me much more. As for Star Trek, it's good, but, that's about it. Never really got into, just doesn't work for me.

I enjoyed Babylon 5, but Firefly was awesome... have Dr.Who on my Netflix, but haven't took the plunge - it's a bit daunting with so many seasons and history

for Doctor Who start at season (series) 1; 2005

you won't enjoy the doctor who seasons from 1960-80 if you don't have an appreciation for the new revived series.

Don't mention the new star wars pleese.... only episode 3 was good and that failed in comparsion to the Orignal trilogy.

Try Babylon 5, Firefly, Stargate SG1. Anything but Andromeda. Hell Star Trek:Enterprise is better than Andromeda.

Lexx made me want to tear my eyeballs out.

I would recommend Battlestar, Star Wars, Star Trek, or Firefly.

Firefly was the best sci-fi show to come out in a long while.  Screw FOX for canceling it.  <_<

Now THAT's a good advice.

Anyway, there is a lack of really good sci-fi series, compared to other genres (except fantasy...). You have great series about gangsters like The Sopranos, many good hospital-themed series, police, historical, etc. But there isn't a single series that can  compare to films like Blade Runner or The Day The Earth Stood Still (the original one, of course).

Well, I have to say Andromeda taught me that Gene was a really depressing guy, pretty much all his sci fi ideas had an apocryphal humans suck theme running through them. Even in Star Trek, the humans pretty much destroyed Earth when the Vulcans showed up and played Space Jesus and saved us all - which, incidentally, makes the most recent Star Trek film really messed up. I mean, really, Space Jesus dies, and the only human crying is Spock's gf, and only because she thinks he's really depressed about just his mom? Pff, you'd think no one involved actually knew fed lore or had experienced 9/11.

Oh, since we're doing suggestions... Get Star Control 2, here's an open source version:
http://sc2.sourceforge.net/
This game has aliens that aren't humans in makeup, have personality and humor, and it's just a whole lotta fun, although there's a lot of resource gathering.

If you want a quick romp get Threshold, it's modern sci-fi (ie occurring now not in the future) and since it got cancelled for the aforementioned great evil GhostWhisperer there's only like 11 or 13 episodes.
