I remember one from a while back, called space above and beyond or somethinng slong those lines, was quite good then Fox cancelled it.

The modern BSG is ok but in my opinion there is hardly any action or battles, 90% of the time it might as well be Eastenders in space.

+1 for Babylon 5 that series was awesome.

Well I was gonna say Dallas in space but other than that ... Ya.
B5 was a classic, and the spinoff would have been good too if hollywood would have just given it a chance. Space: Above and Beyond was another good show. to bad it never made it to the second season they had a lot of room for .. well more.

Go watch Farscape. Or Firefly. Or failing that, the new Battlestart Galactica.

Just watched Episode 5 - Double Helix. So far Andromeda has been run of the mill Scifi, not good nor bad and clichee has hell, and even total stupidity like Andromedas physical avatar (built by mere tech expert? Out of what? What is she made off and how? What the hell?) but this particular episode... It was fantastic.

Excellent writing. While technically I knew what the end is (meta-watching sort off), it held me on my toes. I just couldnt know for real what happens, scales were even for both possible endings to this episode. If this serie manages to do more episodes like this, color me very impressed. If its just a fluke, then too bad. But I'll continue watching.

Funny thing about Andromeda and it's ship AI avatars, they later retconned it into every ship having an android avatar. So I guess you can ignore that particular episode.

The writing after season 1 was extremely poor due to Kevin Sorbo firing any writer with a brain in his attempts to make the dumbest sci-fi show ever to air.
Then there was the most blatant abuse of effects stock footage since the original Battlestar Galactica.

Oh man, the Original BSG... oh lord... I watch its pilot recently.. and I was like "why did they just blow up a planet! WHY?!" Apparently it was because Starbuck had a stray shot half an hour ago! Was Sci-fi from the 70's really this loopey!

I am not a fan of the reimagined thing... but for BSG, the new series is a tonne better.

You mean ignore the episode where she got suddenly built or the episode 5 which I found awesome and consider it just a fluke?

Just don't watch the final episode of Battlestar Galactica if you've become attached to the characters or world at all or you may want to kill kittens.

I already did angry, is that a problem?

So did I.
And then I wanted to kill kittens.

It's a dilemna. You either don't watch the ending and kill yourslef, wondering what will become of them all or watch it, and then...

The kitty gets it.

You cannot compare apples and oranges.
The series came out in 1977.
They were still hanging ships on strings and the "blue screen" has yet to be invented. CGI not even an idea.
It did cause George Lucas to have a serious doubts, and his company took the producers of BSG to court.
BSG had superior ratings then and they were indeed high enough to produce a spin off.
Back then it was the show that everyone watched (though we did only have 6 networks to choose from).
1970's family oriented drama  vs. 2010's in-your-face extreem stuff. 2 different things.
So again apples and oranges.

The new BSG started really awesome (remember the jump countdown at the start? whoa tense), but eventually it became a do-nothing soap opera instead of a space opera. The point at which Starbuck started sleeping with everyone, that was such a soap opera move, I started cheering for people who died. Grats on dying, you are free! Sadly, I couldn't get free myself, but I kept hoping they would all die... or get to Earth... or both... So, for me, the ending was a release.

But there isn't a single series that can  compare to films like Blade Runner

I hope that one day... bah, who am I kidding... :(

I keep hearing rumours of a remake. This scares me more than you can possibly imagine. All these classic films being pissed on by remakes sicken me, greatness being washed away by a series of ill advised remakes. Lost....like tears in the rain.

Erm sorry I got a bit distracted at the end there......:alien:.

Not remake. Someone is making Blade Runner 2.0 if I remember correctly. Well, it won't be called Blade Runner, more like a spiritual successor to Blade Runner. Something like that.
Or at least that's what I read somewhere some time ago.

I'm not sure about killing kittens... but I was kinda like... "that's it?" Most unsatisfying ending I think I've seen. Moore and Eick need a kick in the quads some of the stupid writing decisions on that show.

The easiest way to make an alien culture seem deep when you're really just being lazy is to make them Vikings/Samurai in spaaaaaaaaaace with their glorious battle and honour and rar warrior death and all that.

Wait...

You mean warrior races get all their culture from Rars?

I watched Babylon 5, Star Trek (when it was prime time), Star Trek DS9, StarTrek Voyager, Star Trek TNG, Star Trek Enterprise, Battlestar Galactica (prime time), Battlestar Galactica (Sci Fi), Firefly, Farscape, Tom Baker Dr. Who Saturday nights on PBS, not really sure if this counts but Life on Mars not the crappy amercanized version either, and here is my take.

Babylon 5 i actually cringe when Bruce Boxlietner says anything the guy is so bad.

Star Trek every time i see Willie Slackner in anything i just can not take him seriously, as Kirk he was hilarious eye shadow and all.

Star Trek DS9 Bab 5 with better acting not enough splosions.

Star Trek Voyager hated all i can say is Chikotex because his **** seemed to hurt all the time, Kate seemed to have more balls that the rest of the crew, kind of like Hillary Clinton only Hillary keeps hers in a jar bottom right had drawer.

Star Trek TNG Data rules, What can one say about Picard except awesome.

Star Trek Enterprise nice spin on the lore done pretty good bit to high brow which is why it went away to soon.

Battlestar Galactica watched this show as a kid Dirk Bennedict biggest ham in Hollywood at the time.

Battlestar Galactica, Edward James Olmos excellent job, Tricia Helfer sexiest woman alive.

Firefly what can one say about probably the best Sci Fi show on TV problem is it was on FOX which appeals to the lowest common denominator so of course it would get the axe.

Farscape another good show until liked the twist they put on humans as we were the country cousins come to the city for a visit.

Dr Who well first off Tom Baker will always be Dr. Who and everybody else is some guy wanting to be Dr. Who. This is a bit jaded as this show was my first experience with British Television, that would spawn a long love affair that ended up around Inspector Frost, Midsommer Murders, ****** (not the americanized version)

Life on Mars BBC pretty cool show not really sure if it hits the Sci Fi button but was still a good show.

There you have it whether you want it or not :)

Space opera (ME's story) would be Babylon 5. Lots of big speeches, own govt against the main character, ancient and technological advanced enemies, allies with galactic races, etc. Very ME

Really you prefered TNG to the other star treks ?

TNG is like THE WORST series ever. TOS and Voyager are much better.

Hahahahahaha!!!

Oh wait, you're serious?  TNG is THE Star Trek for me.  Any other just can't compare, especially once you get past TNG's first season.  Every show is entitled to a comparitively crappy first season.

I second Babylon 5 as a good show to be watched.  Many similarities with Mass Effect, like how humans are like the galactic newcomers with inferior technology compared to everyone else.  The overall story is very good, and very few episodes go by without something relevant to the main story arc happening.  As for Bruce Boxleitner's acting, he gets much better as the series goes on, but even on his first episode he is much better than Michael O'Hare was, so I see him as an improvement.

Also, I don't think Babylon 5 has a "warrior" race.  There are plenty of warlike people, but no race that seems to exist solely to make war.  Even the Shadows had their own agenda, but I won't spoil that for anyone who hasn't watched it yet.

B5 was nice because at least SOME aliens displayed "alien" ways of thinking/values. Vorlons and Shadows have different worldviews than younger races, which I think was the series most original contribution to popular sci-fi.

We may consider Reapers "evil", but from their perspective, we're only a resource to be harvested like a carrot or a turnip... and they don't feel the need to explain to the carrots how much better they'd taste once shredded and served with some sultanas and a light vinaigrette!

Not to mention that the whole Citadel setup is similar to the Bayblon 5 station.

High brow? High brow?
Did we watch the same series? The series where large breasted women are put in catsuits is high brow? The only Star Trek series where the ship's captain was likely to name his dog first officer and start pistol-whipping the helmsman is high brow?

But Andromeda should give devs idea to create EDI's avatar in ME 3.

I've said before about how an EDI avatar could interact with Joker for more interesting situations. And could model EDI after Tricia Helfer, ala Miranda. That would be sweet.

No... that would be the six model cylon...
