I'm saying that the benefit of a new storyline and adventure to explore far, far outstrips the loss of the DLC gear. And it's a dman sight better that Bioware told us and instead focusing on making new content better than the old.

Story and characterization are the things I love most about Bioware titles, which is why the DLC bug bothers me.  The missing gear wouldn't be a problem if there were a story based reason for it being gone (like in Baldur's Gate 2).  But we know the reason is techical, not story driven, so it will break immersion.  I'll have to spend the early parts of the expansion wondering why certain items evaporated!

I'm just curious about the actual like..I guess mechanics of it?

If your using Origins as a base for making Awakening, then shouldn't the game files for all the DLC be in there by default? Doesn't that mean you'd have to go back and remove the files that create the item?

If Awakenings was implemented the same way Origins DLC was, I believe you would be correct.  After all the various items worked transparently from one dlc pack to another.

I think Awakenings must be implemented differently, using it's own specific models levels and items.  Thus they need some explicit conversion process, which the release day DLC borked.

Hopefully they will fix this.

I just hope there is commander armor available at start....as you are COMMANDER...

Amen to that. I couldn't care less if the stuff from RtO imports properly since the commanders armor from Wardens Keep is the ONLY decent looking armor in the original unmodded game. Plus there better be good replacement for Starfang lying around from the start, I'd very much would like to not to have to go back using the other less interesting options.

This sounds correct to me. And what about mod gear created with the toolset?

It's a kick in the teeth that you can't keep Starfang. or the other things. Anyways, I don't see why you need to patch several dlcs, the problem is with Awakening, can't you patch it to recognize them?

I understand the argument of having superior equipment, but I think that is a cop out. It could also be a matter of opinion, like Blood Dragon armor is better than Juggernaut armor. I also doubt you start the game with a dump load of cash and a merchant selling all the greatest things too.

It could be halfway through the game before you get better stuff, and what do you for the other half? I think walking up to an ogre, punching him in the face and saying "Sorry I forgot my sword, I hope punching you will make you die, will it?" is less effective than running the ogre through with Starfang.

I personally don't think it's really all about the stats, but I'm just going to trust that Awakening will provide me with armor that is as suitable as the WC set. I'm pretty attached to it and would have really enjoyed starting out the expansion (in which i AM the commander) in such appropriate armor. But hey they might throw us a bone and give us something equally as cool\\fitting. If not, well I'm going to be a true RPer and imagine that it's somewhere sitting on an armor stand shining beautifully. I'm sure a set like that would be hard to maintain. After all, even Duncan didn't exactly wear the most glorious thing in batttle. *finishes justifying and feels better*

But it really is like they said tbh. There will be better armor. Granted, I would probably be able to wear my armor for a while before having to switch, but again I'm trusting that I'll eventually get something I like. *crosses finger for origins trailer warden armor and shield*

I dono about yall, but I feel very secure both defensively and financially wearing my genuine Golden Armor from the Return to Ostagar DLC. And I'm Very Happen that it's transferring over.

Can I just ask what the hell my mage is supposed to wear? Seeing as I have her decked out in the Robes of Avernus, am I going to have to have her walk around in the buff at the start of the game?

Might I suggest making them an arcane warrior and making a medium armor with the dragon scale. That is not a dlc. And as the pop up notes say when you load a game, the heavier the armor you have, the more the AI atttacks you.

So massive armor is out of the question, it would light you up as a beacon. The medium armor gives great protection, esp. when combined with rock armor, arcane shield and the arcane warrior's shimmering shield. It also doesn't attract as much attention from enemies as the massive or heavy armors.

Also, in case you are worrying about fatigue, this armor set gives you a NEGATIVE fatigue rating, that's how low it is.

yea, only thing is it looks like that crappy Armor Alistair had when we first met.. you know? at Ostagar? in the Kokari Wolds? The Wade's Dragonskin Light Armor even looks better, does it offer more -fatigue though.

Well, there was one post where they claimed the reason was that we would find better gear in Awakening. Of course, it was pointed out that that doesn't really qualify as a reason.

Let's be accurate when repeating what we said :)

The main reason is that importing some of the DLC turned out to be a tricky development problem. Knowing you'd be receiving better items, the team chose to put resources toward improving gameplay and polish for the game rather than importing items that you're not likely to keep.

But now for a thread exclusive announcement (well, it won't be exclusive for long. I am going to update the Awakening Q&A after this): I learned today that items from Return to Ostagar will import. So, at the very least you can bring Cailan's armor and Duncan's Dagger over. That's not shabby gear either.

DLC items- that is a perectly reasonable reason imo

RTO- awesome, now I can buy it without feel sad

well to be fair having RTO items makes the most sense - because a 5.00 expansion like RTO is mostly an equipment grab anyway - at least with Wardens Keep you get a story and you do get to keep power of blood in awakenings, and stone prisoner for most people was free - kudos to bioware for making RTO items available at least...

I just had a thought, and I wonder if it is the underlying problem with importing Soldier's Peak items...

Starmetal is labeled as the tier 8 metal in Origins, no? Well, if we're gaining levels in Awakening, presumably there will be higher tiered materials beyond the tier 7 of everything else, meaning they will have a tier 8 (and possibly higher) materials available.

But according to the description of Starfang, that starmetal was unique, so perhaps they replaced Starmetal with a different material as the tier 8 metal, and importing Starfang would cause code conflicts with that.

Something that occured to me a few minutes ago. Just a stab in the dark.

Even if we find better stuff in awakening, I'd still like to get the gold for selling my dlc stuff.

If they don't fix it, that's what I'll do, sell the dlc stuff before importing.

I'd still like to have Starfang in my hand when I find the better gear.

It is a little misleading about "new" gear.  With 5+ characters, I hope there is enough gear to suit up all of our toons.  I'm not into switching rings/belts/necklaces depending on who I'm playing with.  I know I never played with Sten or Ogren due to the lack of gear.

Anyone else have problem gearing up your characters with equipment that wasn't pure garbage?

If RtO items are able to be imported then why not Warden's Keep? I can understand issues with all the promo stuff, but when you're paying $5-7 for DLC the least I'd expect would be to keep using it.

And if somethign is better in the expansion?

You still wna to use Duncans lame 2 slot sword?

Shelve it and move on.

I just did RTO on my one rogue today, after the final battle. Cailan's armor is dragonbone, as are the weapons (At least Duncan's). On my characters that did it midgame they are red steel or something. Not so lame when you do the RTO dlc late in the gme, you have a nice end of one start of the other setup.

As far was the rest goes, I can't USE plate so te Warden's commnder armor always irked me in the first place. No love for the leather wearers...sigh.

Besides what DLC would you want anyway?

Cailan's Armor
Maric's Blade
Duncan's Sword
Duncan's Dagger
Warden Commander Armor
Starfang
Helm of Honnleath
Harvest Festival Ring
& more

The Tier 7 version has 3 slots, and better bonuses than Topsider's Honor. The only non-DLC longsword that beats it is the Keening Blade. I have a party that uses 3-5 longswords at any given time, so I see no reason to shelve Duncan's anytime soon.

Besides, the first time I played human noble, I was still using the Shield of Highever for the origin story when I killed the archdemon, so it is entirely possible that I would want to continue using some of those items after finding gear with better stats.

Also, looks like I got the first half of my little wishlist there so :P.

Bold and italicized text is where you are wrong.  He did indeed wear the most glorious thing in battle:  His epic beard!

Yeah, if they deprive me of my Warden Commander's armour after making me Commander of the Grey in Ferelden, I am going to be.... p- annoyed.

And don't get me started on the Warden's Ultimate Sacrifice not carrying over so that the Orlesian Warden lives with the consequences of his actions. I'm doing another playthrough just so I can harden Alistair, make him marry Anora, take Loghain, and make Loghain take the final blow. (I refuse to do the Dark Ritual, has bad mojo written all over it in flowing script)
