UPDATE: This can be done on the PC now with a bunch of hex edits to your file - http://social.biowar...5/index/1585456

After a short discussion with other members, it appears that many are in favor of including a distinct gameplay option, listed in the in-game menu options after one completion of the game:

-----
Mission Linearity: [ ] High [ ] Low

Adjusts the mission arrangement in the game. High requires you to follow a specific set of recruitment missions, low allows you to pursue almost any mission after Freedom's Progress -- with consequences still included. WARNING: Console users may have to switch discs several times.

-----

This allows those who have completed the game to recruit any possible squadmate from the very beginning, as full squadmate dialogue is already implemented for each mission. Probabilities suggest that the replay value of Mass Effect 2 will be increased, but not at the expense of inconveniencing those who do not want to switch discs frequently.

I agree with the idea of recruiting the squad in any order one choses to do it. we should have had the option from the start anyway

And your life must be so great that you have nothing better to do than rage on forums just because some people are having a little RP fun. Its called a sense of humour, get some.

The thing is if you have the PC, you can do that. If they patch it for the console it will just screw up the disc system.

Wouldn't a patch like this force Bioware to cut some content out... Like scenes or dialogue?

no because its a game patch where a player would be able to recruit the squad how ever one wants to

Hence the idea is its optional. So if you don't like disc swapping don't download it. For PC there really is no excuse since we don't swap discs.

This is not necessarily the case. Modification of PC data only includes the character in the mission. It does not enable players to recruit them and have them appear in the Normandy.

As for the idea itself, it's good, and everybody wins.

That's why BioWare will never do it.

What do you mean don't download it. You have to disc spa no matter what on the console. Thats why this patch won't happen. I know some hard core PC gamers hate it (like Angry) but it won't happen. I would love to have Legion at the start but oh well.

Full understanding of this option requires re-reading of the main topic. Everyone will download the patch; however, the default option is the current mission style implemented now.

Allowing any squadmate to be recruited requires two things:
1. Completion of the game, which opens up a new Gameplay option
2. Switching that option from High to Low

Therefore, anyone who does not want to be inconvenienced may simply ignore it and play normally.

Ah ok, I get you. That would work. I would with out a doubt download the patch even if I had to change disc (which don't bug me, remember PS anyone)
