Okay, so last night, I got the idea for a story that serves to explain how you can play as a Warden that died at the end of Origins in Awakening. It's called Dragon Age: Dark Resurrection right now, and I'm about 4 chapters in already.
It deals with a Cerberus-esque plot to bring the Warden back to life because he's seemingly the only one that can really drive back the Darkspawn, who aren't retreating even after the Archdemon's death (which is what Awakening is about). Now, the story makes some assumptions about what you did in Origins. It assumes you are of the Human Noble origin, that you are male, that you are a warrior, that you put Alistair on the throne, hardened, and that you romanced Morrigan but didn't take her offer at the end of Origins. It also assumes you took the sacrifice yourself, not Loghain or Alistair.
Roughly 2 or 3 months after Origins ends, the Warden's body is stolen from his tomb up in Weisshaupt by a secret organization called The Nelegata (which is Romanian for "The Unbound." See what I did there?)Remember that guy Vilhm Madon, A.K.A. Gaxkang from the Unbound quest? Well, he said that eyes were on the Grey Warden from high places. He was referring to The Nelegata.
Well, The Nelegata manage to restore you to life, somehow managing to pull your spirit from the Fade. The story involves him awakening and fighting the Nelegata with the indirect help of Morrigan, who felt you come back to life through the ring she gave you. You never actually see or talk to her, but you can feel she is helping you.
I also wanted to make sure that enough time passes between this and Awaykening so that people are use to seeing you alive by Awakening. And I know not eveyone thinks the Ultimate Sacrifice ending is canon, but I do, and I know others do. I just want to explain the exsistence of a seemingly dead Warden in Awakening.
So, is anyone interested in this story? Any suggestions? Any questions? Support is appreciated, thanks.Image IPB

Wierd. What exactly is the point of Community Creations if no members of the community give your creation a glance?

I dont know I try to read and comment on all the least vewied storys so they gain some confence. I mean the whole reason for posting your story here is to get some sort of validation for your worka nd I know it hurts when no one comments about your work. so I do my best to read and give my honest opion to others about their work. I realy like your Idea And I am looking forward to you writeing it even if it is just me who ends up reading it.

sadly that dose not always happen. I have seen tons of realy good storys writen here and no one coments on them other than me. I dont want to sound preachy or like Im pluging my own work but I wrote three very good stories and only one person ahs read one of them. Now im not saying that I want you to run off and read my stuff im just saying that unless your one of those elite writers like the Dalishranger and his friends. you will be over looked for some one they know. That or every one includeing myself is dalutional and are realy just bad writers. I liek to think we just get over looked.

Keep in mind that a lot of people might be too shy to react even though they do read them.

I like your idea, it has potential. I think that it would be nice to have some sort of continuity between the self-sacrifice ending in Origins and what happens in Awakening. Who knows, The Illusive Demilich could run the Nelegata:)).

Not everyone who reads a story or idea will comment. The best way to get critique is to just post your work, and you'll get the good comments and the bad (or none at all). People throw around ideas all the time--it's easy to have ideas, and bloody hard to turn those into a good story. A fantastic premise does not equal an awesome pageturner.

I could see your idea here having troubles in certain circles. True resurrection is supposedly impossible in DA:O (unless, like in Wynne's case, a benevolent spirit intervenes and binds itself to the host?). Even Flemeth hasn't found a way to 'come back to life' as such, only a way to leap-frog between bodies. There would also be the problem that resurrection cheapens the whole idea of Warden sacrifice, but all this means nothing if Morrigan has somehow found a way to make a magical resurrection ring.

Now, don't let all that deter you. There are stories about Wardens having children and these have their fans. :) Just because a story idea has conflicts with lore or something like resurrection 'has never happened before' doesn't mean it never *can*. If you've written a lot of it already, put it out there and see what people think. Then you can decide whether or not there's enough interest to keep writing (or screw 'em all and just keep writing because you're having fun ;)).

I echo what most people here have said - it is really difficult to get people to comment but you have to bear in mind that they might not know what to say or might just be too shy. I think you have to want to write things like fanfic, for the most part because you want to give your writing skills an airing and want to build a story. The hoping that other people will read it AND like it is kind of a fingers-crossed thing and relying on it can be a bit disappointing.

The absolutely one most important piece of advice I can give you is get yourself a good beta-reader to start with. Perhaps ask someone whose writing you like and who seems to have a good grasp of grammar, spelling and content. That way, you give yourself the best chance of having your story enjoyed by readers - there's nothing more off putting than having to struggle your way through what might be a good story if only you weren't being distracted by all the errors. It's good for you too because you learn about how to improve your writing in a practical way. And perhaps most importantly, you have a person you can bounce ideas off and who hopefully will give you a bit of unconditional confidence before you publish each bit. On top of that, if your lucky, you'll make a pal - I have the most amazing beta-readers - who have become my friends now. :)

But really, the best thing to do is to give it a go, as Shadow says, the idea can be the best thing in the world but if you don't actually turn it into a tale, that's all it will be, an idea :).

So go for it, I say! I've thoroughly enjoyed (and am still enjoying) writing mine. But be warned - it's a very very addictive thing!

Looking forward to having a read of it. :)

best

Tara

True that!  It can be terribly addicting.  Consider this another recommendation to get a good beta reader.  They are invaluable!

And keep in mind, as others have said, lack of comments does not mean people are not reading.

I fear I am one of those readers who is too shy to post a comment. I am absolutely not a writer, and I feel so stupid because all I can say is "like the story", "nice story"

I think comments from people who write stories themselves are much more appreciated because they can also give advise

Also this is not my native language (dutch) and I find it hard sometimes to find the words to express my feelings about a story

@Shadow of Light Dragon: True, resurrection in the DA universe is largely thought of as impossible, but there is an ancient magic I came up with called Necromaritat, and is (whatelse) Tevinter in origin.
It's centuries old at the very least, and was only partially successful to begin with. The Nelegata are a group that can actually use this magic, as they have millenia of knowledge between them. So, Wynne or maybe even Flemeth may not know about this magic, but it does exist. And it also has side effects on the person's mind and body, further enhanced by the whole Archdemon thing.
And the ring I'm talking about is the one Morrigan gave you in Origins, to track you. She feels your life force through the ring and, while puzzled, sets out to help you, even if you two never meet. I know the only way to get that ring is through romance with her, but like I said, the story makes certain assumptions that allow the story to work.
Anyway, I've actually already posted the prologue and first chapter already, so I'm surprised no one from here has looked at it yet.
